INTRODUCTION The vacaon rental industry has seen tremendous growth over the past 20 years and many experts predict that by 2020 it will surpass the tradi(onal hotel room. Goldman Sachs data showed. "We find it interesng that people 'do a 180' in their preferences once they use P2P (peer to peer) lodging. They move directly from preferring tradional hotels to preferring P2P accommodaons.” An internal study by a Washington State based company, Seale Oasis Vacaon Rentals revealed that 52% of visitors "would NOT have even come to Seale if vacaon rentals were not an op(on." These represent trends that are beginning to impact the world's greatest des(naons. In The Bahamas, the Central Bank’s March 2019 report revealed, “Preliminary indicators for the short-term rental market in January were also improved, as data from AirDNA showed a 37.0% advance in total booked lis(ngs, relave to the same period in 2018, with gains in both en(re place bookings (34.9%) and private room bookings (44.9%). Meanwhile, the ADR for hotel comparable lis(ngs- which is more comparable across periods- firmed by 5.0% to $142.40; however, the ADR (average daily rate) for en(re place lis(ngs decreased by 1.7% to $330.35. A breakdown of the short-term rental data, revealed that the dominant New Providence market noted gains in both the en(re place and private room bookings, of 23.7% and 25.8%, respec(vely; although increased compe((on contributed to the decline in the respec(ve ADRs by 9.0% and 2.1% to $266.46 and $118.18. Away from the capital, the majority of the lis(ngs relate to the en(re place category. In Exuma, the inventory for this segment rose by 43.8%, while the associated ADR firmed by 19.0% to $406.0. Similarly, in Abaco and Grand Bahama, en(re place lis(ngs advanced by 32.7% and 50.0%, respec(vely. Conversely, the ADR for Abaco and Grand Bahama contracted by 26.6% to $264.49 and by 5.8% to $171.01, placing them at the more affordable end of the spectrum. DATA DRIVEN – The purpose of this report is to provide the Bahamas real estate industry comprising renters and owners, buyers, sellers, developers, lenders, agents and its associate professionals with a baseline study of the vacaon rental market in the Bahamas. The informaon in this report is extracted and analyzed from AirDNA which is comprised of rental data from Homeaway and AirBNB. Over 4,200 proper(es comprising of the en(re home have been used in this report and it is important to note that NOT ALL vacaon rentals in The Bahamas are reported through AirBNB and Homeaway however at the present (me this is the most centralized public data system of which to comprise a market report. The key data extracted for this report for all transac(ons are average daily rate, monthly occupancy rates, annual income, average bedrooms and average guests per rental. • The Midwives Association of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas
THE MIDWIVES ASSOCIATION OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS ALL HONOUREES & FAMILIES AT OUR OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS Jn 2004, Yvonne Bain, Judith Sawyer, Judith Clarke and Lydia Johnson attended a Midwifery Today Confer ence in Philadelphia. They were truly inspired and intrigued by what they experienced. Following the conference they met with the President of the Midwifery Today Magazine Jan Tritten and invited her to The Bahamas to hold a conference. Ms. Tritten was enthusiastic and immediately accepted the invitation, "Who wouldn't want to come to The Bahamas?" Ms. Bain along with her colleagues Jennifer King, Cleola-mae Hamilton, and Ella Anderson started putting plans in action to host the first international conference in The Bahamas. A Midwifery Conference was held in The Bahamas from September 22-26 , 2005, under the theme: Sharing The Culture ofBirth. The conference was a resounding success. Many countries were represented, and the association had the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Minister Obie Wilchombe, Ms. Valerie Miller, The Royal Bahamas Defence Force, and many others. Attendance was excellent and the Bahamian Midwives rose to the occasion with their presentations and hospitality. The first meeting of the potential organization was exciting and historical. Twenty -five midwives attended that meeting. The conference served as a catalyst to form the Midwives Association of The Commonwealth ofThe Bahamas. The following Midwives were selected to make up the initial executive team: * Ella Anderson - President * Shirley Curtis- Vice-President * Valerie Miller- Secretary * Karol Mackey- Asst. Secretary * Yvonne Bain -Treasurer * Monique Lewis- Chaplain The team started meeting regularly to put in place the Goals, Objective, Vision and By Laws of the Association.

  • North Abaco Celebrated One Bahamas
December 15, 2008 The Abaconian Section A Page 1 VOLUME 16, NUMBER 24 DECEMBER 15th, 2008 North Abaco celebrated One Bahamas Guests included Governor General and Olympian Gold Medalist By Vernique Russell Patriotism, pride and nationalism defi- nitely set the mood as North Abaconians gathered at the S.C. Bootle High School for the One Bahamas Celebration 2008 on November 27. The celebration began back in the 90s by Sir Orville Turnquest, then Governor General of the Bahamas. Since then during the month of November a week has been assigned to reflect on what makes us Bahamians and what unites us as one country. With a cool Atlantic breeze blowing, One Bahamas was portrayed in songs, ring games and dances done by students from North Abaco. The schools brought forth their best choirs, dancers and soloists to complete the celebrations. These renditions truly brought out what it means to be Bahamian. In attendance was Sir Orville Turnquest, Sir Durward Knowles and other dignitar- ies from Nassau and Abaco. Sir Orville Turnquest, the Father of One Bahamas, encouraged the students to remember that we are one, no matter which island we hail Sir Durward Knowles was part of the group visiting North Abaco to celebrate One Bahamas. He is shown here giving representa- from. Sir Durward Knowles urged those tives of each of the schools in North Abaco a DVD copy of his life story. He was the first Bahamaian to win a gold medal in the Olympics and it was in sailing. Please see One Bahamas Page 13 Armed Robbery ends in Murder U.S.
