B. Brodey and Todd Ramón Ochoa) This dissertation is a critical analysis and annotated translation, from Spanish into English, of the book Reglas de Congo: Palo Monte Mayombe, by the Cuban anthropologist, artist, and writer Lydia Cabrera (1899-1991). Cabrera’s text is a hybrid ethnographic book of religion, slave narratives (oral history), and folklore (songs, poetry) that she devoted to a group of Afro-Cubans known as “los Congos de Cuba,” descendants of the Africans who were brought to the Caribbean island of Cuba during the trans-Atlantic Ocean African slave trade from the former Kongo Kingdom, which occupied the present-day southwestern part of Congo-Kinshasa, Congo-Brazzaville, Cabinda, and northern Angola. The Kongo Kingdom had formal contact with Christianity through the Kingdom of Portugal as early as the 1490s. -

Nel 1962 ha iniziato gli studi nel Seminario Interdiocesano Cristo Rey di Montevideo e, in pari tempo, ha frequentato i corsi di Umanità e Filosofia presso il Collegio San Juan Bautista. Nel 1973 ha ottenuto la licenza in Teologia presso la Pontificia Università Gregoriana. Èstato ordinato sacerdote il 18 maggio 1973. Dopo un periodo di ministero pastorale a Montevideo, ha ottenuto il Dottorato in Teologia Dogmatica presso la Facultad de Teologia de San Miguel" (Argentina). Nel 2000 è stato nominato primo Rettore della Facultad de Teología del Uruguay "Mons. Mariano Soler", incarico che ha svolto fino all’anno 2004. 2 Èstato, quindi, parroco a Carrasco, Tapes e dal 2004 è parroco della Parrocchia Nuestra Señora del Carmen a Cordón. Attualmente è anche membro del Consiglio Presbiterale dell’arcidiocesi di Montevideo e postulatore della Causa di Beatificazione del Servo di Dio Mons. -

“I WOULD DO THE SAME THINGS OVER AGAIN” Wisdom for the Spiritual Life according to Mother Mary of the Seven Dolors “GAVE EACH NOVICE A NEW NAME” 4 August 1841 The Annals of the Congregation of the Marianite Sisters of Holy Cross recount a simple ceremony that took place in the chapel of the Good Shepherd Monastery in Le Mans, France, on Wednesday, 4 August 1841. “The investiture was preceded by a three-day retreat given by Father Founder to the entire community. The morning of the ceremony he celebrated Holy Mass at which the Fathers, Brothers and Sisters assisted. The future novices, dressed in white, were conducted to the grating by Mother Prioress and her Assistant, while the religious of Holy Cross sang the Ave Maria Stella. The Good Shepherd ritual was closely followed. Reverend Father Founder blessed the veils and the silver hearts, and gave each novice a new name: Mademoiselle Léocadie Gascoin received that of Sister Mary of the Seven Dolors; Marie Robineau, that of Sister Mary of Calvary; Renée Boutellier, that of Sister Mary of the Compassion; and Leonie Chapin, that of Sister Mary of Holy Cross. The ceremony ended with the kiss of peace and the chant of the Te Deum; the new novices then returned to the novitiate.” The giving of a new name signals the beginning of a new way of life, a new direction, a new commitment. For the four young women in this scene, taking on a new name was precisely that. And yet, it was so much more. They were pioneers. -

FRANCE 2.3-FRA.640.11 Daughters of the Cross of Paris Founded 1640 at Paris, France, byMadame L'Huillier deVilleneuve (1597-1650), a Lady of Charity, following the advice of Saint Vincent de Paul to establish a system of free schools and education of young women. The Duchess d'Aiguillon (1604-1673), also a Lady of Charity, 122 may be considered a cofounder, and was a major benefactor, as well as advocate in obtaining approbation,!" At one time the institute of Saint-Quentin received refuge (due to war) from this institute. Francis de Sales provided the initial inspiration to the founder, as well as a copy of his original rules for the Visitation. Villeneuve had been actively consulting Vincent de Paul regarding communityaffairs since February 1648, and after her death, Saint Vincent became responsible for overseeing and stabilizing its organization and government (1650-1660). Louis Abelly (1604-1691), bishop of Rodez, became its ecclesiastical superiorfor twenty-four years. Foundations by this insti tute became diocesan after each mission was firmly established and many have combined.'" Some formed a federation (1969) known as the Mysterium Christi."o 2.3-FRA.696.0 Dominican Sisters of Charity of the Presentation of the Holy Virgin (Sisters of the Presentation of Tours) Founded 1696 at Sainville in Eure-et-Loir, France, in the diocese of Chartres by the Reverend Franc;ois Mespolie, O.P., and Blessed Marie Poussepin (1653-1744, beatified 1994). Poussepin, as a youth had deal ings with the Daughters of Charity through the Confraternity ofChar ity at Dourdan where her mother, Julienne Fourrier Poussepin, was a I36Marie de Vignerod (1604-1673), the Duchess d'Aiguillon, was an active collaborator and benefactor ofVincentde Paul. -

I extend my cordial welcome to all of you who have come on pilgrimage to the Eternal City, the heart of Catholicism, thus experiencing a privileged moment of the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000. I affectionately greet all of you, Bishops, priests, men and women religious, consecrated persons and faithful who this morning celebrated Holy Mass at the tomb of the Apostle Peter, after having passed through the Holy Door of the Vatican Basilica. I thank Bishop Raúl Horacio Scarrone Carrero of Florida, President of the Uruguayan Episcopal Conference, for the cordial words he addressed to me. My heart is still filled with memories of the Pastoral Visit I made to your country precisely 12 years ago. It was a great joy to be among you to enliven your faith, strengthen your hope and encourage your love. Your Jubilee pilgrimage also coincides with the anniversary of the death of Jacinto Vera, the first Bishop of Uruguay, who was able to bring, not without difficulty, the presence of the Church to every corner of the country. I urge you, dear sons and daughters of Uruguay, to continue faithfully the mission that the Lord has entrusted to you and to give joyous witness to Christ in today's society. Your ecclesial journey will be strengthened by the celebration of the National Eucharistic Congress, scheduled for next October. I hope and wish that it will be a special moment of grace. -

D. BARBÉ, FR. SARDOY? BUT WE MAY NOT KNOW THEIR PERSONALITY, NOR HOW THEY MET SAINT MICHAEL, HOW THEY DECIDED TO FULLY DEDICATE THEMSELVES TO A PROJECT WHICH WAS INSPIRED BY GOD AND DREW THEM TO BE THE PILLARS OF THE EMERGING CONGREGATION, DESPITE ALL THE WORKS AND THE OBSTACLES, THE DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES. THERE ARE SOME BEAUTIFUL STORIES TO TELL. Simon Guimon, a fiery temper Bishop d’Arbou, appointed to Bayonne in 1830, wanted to continue the project of Bishop d’Astros: bring all the seminarians back to Bayonne. The old superior of Betharram, Pierre-Procope Lassalle, died on July 5, 1831. He was succeeded by Michael Garicoits. Appointed to the Convent of Igon, was Simon Guimon, a former missionary. He didn’t last long: the rigor of the new chaplain discouraged young religious and postulants. Jeanne-Élisabeth Bichier des Ages, the founder, was upset by it and so Michael Garicoits took the road to Igon; For 30 years! Far from being discouraged, Simon Guimon put himself under the guidance of the new superior of Betharram. Thus, his first support is formed, more than a friend. As planned, the seminary of Betharram was empty after the ordinations of December 23, 1833. Eventually, Abbé Guimon took up a hectic schedule of parish ministry. -

In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for The Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Milwaukee, Wisconsin August 2021 ABSTRACT MEDIA COMPETENCY AND MEDIA LITERACY EDUCATION (MLE) AMONG TRIBAL RELIGIOUS/SEMINARIANS (TRS) Justin Tirkey, B.A., M.A. MARQUETTE UNIVERSITY, 2021 The media and technological advances have enormously transformed our lives, including the lives and training of Tribal religious/seminarians in India. The emerging media landscape in the 21st century has also expanded the notion of literacy from reading and writing to being competent in accessing media, becoming creative and critical consumers, and judicious participants in media as responsible and compassionate citizens. This requires inclusion of MLE curriculum for the TRS in their early stage of religious formation. The current quantitative study explored the media competency (media habits, attitude, purpose, and participation) the relationship, and difference among TRS. For this purpose, survey research was conducted with a sample of 265 (98 men, and 167 women TRS) of India. The survey data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics like regression analysis to find out the relationship between variables and one-way ANOVA to examine the difference in the variables.
