Welcome! Super Vectorizer for Mac is a professional vector tracing software that automatically converts bitmap images like JPEG, GIF and PNG to clean, scalable vector graphic of Ai, SVG, DXF and PDF. Powered by totally new image quantization algorithm, Super Vectorizer automatically traces artwork, photography, line arts and so on and precisely produce vector art without any loss of quality.

With this tutorial, we will show you how to vectorize raster bitmap images on Mac with Super Vectorizer quickly and accurately. The latest Mac version can be found on the product page and you may download for trial.

11 3.2 HOW TO INSTALL The latest version is available here. Step 1. To install Super Vectorizer, double-click the disk image.

If it doesn’t open automatically, right-click to open it, then follow the onscreen instructions.

12 STEP 2. DRAG AND DROP TO INSTALL.

If you get a warning dialog about installing an app from an unidentified developer, it doesn’t necessarily mean that something’s wrong with the app. Maybe it was written before developer ID registration began or has not been reviewed by Apple. Anyway, we ensure 100% security of Super Vectorizer. To open in a safe approach:

1. In the Finder, locate the app you want to open. Don’t use Launchpad to do this. Launchpad doesn’t allow you to access the shortcut menu.

2. Press the Control key, then click the app icon, then choose Open from the shortcut menu.

3. Click Open. Super Vectorizer is saved as an exception to your security settings, and you can open it in the future by double-clicking it just as you can any other app.

Click the Launchpad icon in the Dock, hold down Super Vectorizer’s icon until all the icons begin to jiggle, then click its delete button . If you later want the app, you can reinstall it from the product page.

The Super Vectorizer work area was made easy and handy to quickly convert raster bitmap images to clean vector graphics. This section guides you how to quickly start your workflow and explain what the various types of settings are and how they work. This is what it looks like.

41 7.1 SETTING PANEL 1. Mode 1 Color Mode 1, the default mode, in which the reasonable parameters are preset for you to quickly see the optimal vectorized result. This mode supports tracing in different color numbers and gray, and you may manually make some adjustments according to the preliminary result.

Stack Scan: it is preferred in most cases except line art. Color number: it ranges from 2 to 64. More colors you use, more natural the result will be, but we advice to use as less color as possible for a clean vector output. Enhance Edge: it is commonly used to eliminate overlapped boundaries. Smooth Radius: useful tool to remove some speckle and make the lines smoother.

42 2. Mode 2 Compared with Mode 1, the imported image will undergo color quantization before processing and the result tends to be neater and have fewer excrescent color regions.

This mode is designed for those who have complex images in rich and gradient colors but would like a clean vector result. Accordingly, you are allowed to adjust the setting of region segmentation.

Combine Similar Regions: to combine regions similar in color, it varies between 5 and 300. Basically, the default setting is suitable for most cases. Remove Small Regions: to remove small color regions, make the result cleaner.

43 3. Line While using this mode, Super Vectorizer for Mac will trace the edge line in black and white. You may fine-tune the result by setting the threshold. Also, skeletonization is supported in line mode.

Skeletonization: to get a thin version of that shape that is equidistant to its boundaries, that is to trace of centerline.

Threshold: changes the threshold for drawing the edges. The higher the threshold, the more tolerant the image is to “edges”. You would typically use a higher threshold in brighter images.

Smooth Lines: set to smooth lines of edges, ranging from 150 to 300. Reduce Noise: set to clean the noise of images, ranging from 1 to 30.

47 8.4 HOW TO GET CLEAN, SHARP, AND ACCURATE RESULTS? We vectorize different images for disparate purposes that also vary between diversified personal needs and opinions. But generally, we would want a clean, smooth and accurate result from vectorization Apps. I will divide your images into two categories and guide you to what you want to achieve:

1. To vectorize a photograph We normally use Mode 1/2 (that is color mode) to vectorize a photograph. If you want a more natural, accurate and vivid vector graphic, you may even use full color (64) that may take more space than original. Maybe color number of 32 is enough for most cases. Of course, if you prefer a clean one, 2 to 10 colors are more appealing to you. To get a shaper result, you can turn up the parameter of “Enhance Edge”. For a smoother vectorized output, you need to set “Smooth Radius” bigger. If you feel that the result has some fuzz around boundaries or inside shape, Mode 2 is more suitable to you. You are allowed to make some adjustment by combining similar regions and remove small regions. Anyway, our elegant tool can give you useable results.

48 49 2. TO VECTORIZE AN ARTWORK Both Color Mode and Line Mode can be applied in artwork vectorization, while it depends on what you want to achieve, color or outline or centerline?

(1)Trace of color: When it comes to tracing of color, I would like to divide your artworks into ones with few & simple colors and others with rich & gradient colors. For the former type of artworks, Mode 1 works better in getting clean and smooth results. Sample vectorized in Mode 1 (source image available here):

This is a sample with few colors, as we can see, the lines are smoother in Mode 1. But if we got a result like this (with fuzzy outline), what should we do?

51 You may try a few settings in Color Mode for a cleaner and sharper vector art:

(1)You can customize color number to 3, as basically 3 colors are included in this logo. The result is much clearer and sharper now, but there are still some small orange regions around black boundaries.

52 (2)Then adjust “Enhance Edge” to the extent that needless orange pixels would disappear around edges.

Please remember to use as little color as possible, in case the program would hallucinate unnecessary color region in or around shape. Besides, vectorized artworks with more color number will take up more space: 29kb SVG in 3 colors; 348kb SVG in 33 colors. Smooth lines, also known as despeckle, helps you to remove some speckle and make the lines smoother:

53 I set “Smooth Radius” as 1 and 30 separately and some minor distinction can be found in the edges of vectorized result. Basically, the second result is smoother and more natural (two SVG version available here).

To the contrary, Mode 2 is preferred to vectorize artworks with multi and gradient colors:

54 In this case, artwork processed under Mode 2 has less color regions, which is much easier to adjust and clear out.

55 (2)Trace of outline: To trace the outline, we have four settings in Line Mode, and you can get more detail with lower “Threshold”. When tracing the edge, Super Vectorizer will not trace the background of your artwork and it will be turned into outlines with transparent background. You may use the “Smooth Lines” setting to get a smoother vector art (two results available in SVG format here):

56 The result is still sharp and acuminate after smoothing out. Likewise, you may reduce the noise and jag of noisy artworks, especially the scans, to greatly release you from heavy post processing work.

(3)Trace of centerline: To trace the centerline, “Skeletonization” is a powerful and essential function that needs to be selected.

61 8.10 I WANT TO VECTORIZE LINE ART FORMATTED TO JPEG. HOW TO DO THIS? Overview: Step 1. Import your image. Directly drag your image to workplace or click Import an Image or click File menu, then click Import or press Command & I to open an image of JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, TIFF, PDF, PSD, etc.

Step 2. Select a mode. You have three options to choose from: Color Mode 1, Color Mode 2, Line Mode. --Color Mode 1. The default mode and the reasonable parameters are preset for you to quickly see the optimal vectorized result. This mode supports tracing of color and grayscale and you may flexibly make some adjustment according to the result.

--Color Mode 2. Compared with Mode 1, the imported image will undergo color quantization before vectorizing and the result tends to be neater and have less line around region boundaries. Accordingly, you are allowed to adjust the setting of region segmentation.

--Line Mode. When using this mode, Super Vectorizer for Mac will trace the edge line in black and white. You may fine-tune the result by setting the threshold. Also, skeletonization is supported in line mode. Export the result.

Step 3. Click Export or click File menu, then click Export or press Command & E to save as Ai, SVG, DXF and PDF. To vectorize line art, you may normally use Line Mode. Likewise, the reasonable parameters are preset for you. Let me explain some settings and parameters to you: Skeletonization--get the skeleton of a shape, which is a thin version of this shape that is equidistant to its boundaries. Threshold--ranging from 1-100, the bigger of threshold, the clearer (less lines) of the output. Smooth Lines--the result would be smoother with turning up the parameter. Reduce Noise--to reduce noise of noisy images.

63 8.12 MY SOFTWARE REPORTS TO ME THAT THE RESULTING PDF IS NOT A VECTOR FILE. HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM?

We output to PDF V 1.3, maybe your software is not compatible with this version. But Adobe Illustrator can successfully recognize it as a vector file.

So we provide you a temporary solution: 1. Output to PDF; 2. Open this PDF file in AI and save as PDF. Then it is recognizable in your software.

64 8.13 WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VERSION 1.6 AND 2.0? 1. Super Vectorizer uses a totally new image quantization algorithm. It produces more natural color than Super Vectorizer after vectorization.

2. Super Vectorizer supports up to 64 colors, but Super Vectorizer supports up to 32 colors only.

3. There are two color modes now. A new color mode with image segmentation polymerization algorithm was unique in the AppStore at present. In contrast, there is only one color mode for Super Vectorizer.

4. A new line tracing engine was applied to Super Vectorizer to trace more clean lines to accord more closely with users’ needs. Super Vectorizer produces redundant lines though some designers would need this kind of effect.

5. The function of skeletonization was newly added to Super Vectorizer to enable conversion from pencil drawing into vector graphic. Super Vectorizer doesn't support this.

6. Super Vectorizer traces more clean line borders that greatly simplifies the information to get more concise vector graphic for the ease of editing. It successfully avoids a region overlapping by Super Vectorizer.

7. The enhanced pre-processing smoothing function can simplify the complex image very well. The smoothing algorithm is four times better than that of Super Vectorizer.

8.Super Vectorizer supports opening files by dragging and dropping it to the icon for easy operation; while Super Vectorizer doesn't support this.
