Dovolili so formiranje udarnih domobranskih bataljonov. Izurili in usposobili so jih posebej za protipartizansko bojevanje. V boju s partizani so posebej na Notranjskem in Dolenjskem dosegali velike uspehe. Pred formiranjem teh bataljonov so domobranci prestavljali defenzivne, obrambno-policijske enote v postojankah, namenjene predvsem zaščiti komunikacij. Udarni bataljoni so bili agresivnejši, pretežno napadalne in hitro premične enote. Samostojno in v večjih ofenzivnih akcijah so skupaj z nemško vojsko vdirali na osvobojeno ozemlje in si s pobudo prizadevali uničiti partizansko vojsko. Fighting path of 2nd Home Guard strike battalion »Vuk Rupnik« After the capitulation of Italy in late summer of 1943 everything changed for German occupation forces.

  • The Italian Forces the Last Legions the Italian Forces “Luck Was Missing, Not Valour.”
The Italian Forces The last Legions The Italian Forces “Luck was missing, not valour.” The Italian Soldier of World War Two is a much maligned character, often seen as more a figure of fun than as any kind of actual fighter, he is portrayed as the hapless coward, the bumbling incompetent, or, in the case of the Officer class, the strut- ting peacock more interested in wine, women and song than in actually prosecuting the war. While as with any stereotype there is often a kernel of truth to be found it is clear that the much maligned Italian soldier is more the victim of circumstance and propaganda than of any real failings on his part. On paper the Italian army was a large, reasonably well equipped force (Italy’s post First World War rearmament programme had produced a modern army, unfor- tunately however it was almost obsolescent again by the outbreak of War), perhaps not quite the “8 Million bayonets” oft quoted by Mussolini but nonetheless a force to be reckoned with. However, this force was neither prepared nor equipped for a modern fast moving war, her infantry training was outdated, her weapons and equipment mostly worn out or of poor quality, her military doctrine moribund (and, perhaps more impor- tant yet, it was still recuperating from military campaigns in East Africa, Spain and Albania). The Italian army of World War Two was basically an infantry force, lacking in mechanisation and with very little of the where- withal necessary to conduct a modern war. There was a clear attempt to pattern Italian strategy and tactics along German lines, ultimately however, this was to prove only partially successful.

  • 1 Small Arms of the Spanish Civil War Leonard R. Heinz 10 December
Small Arms of the Spanish Civil War Leonard R. Heinz 10 December 2016 Which models of small arms were used in the Spanish Civil War? This note makes a start at answering that question, although it may well be that the question can never fully answered. Arms purchases were particularly chaotic on the Republican side, and the records of many of those purchases are undoubtedly lost. On the Nationalist side, the historical emphasis tends to be on the foreign armed forces sent to Spain (the Italian Corpo Truppe Volontarie and the much smaller German Condor Legion), and not on small arms deliveries. Records of these deliveries likely exist in Spanish, German, and Italian archives, but I have so far found no in-depth study of them. This note is based on a variety of sources, but with a heavy reliance on Gerald Howson’s Arms for Spain. Howson’s book is invaluable because it details arms deliveries from both Poland and Russia, which together probably supplied well more than half of the small arms imported by the Republicans. Histories of specific types or models of small arms have also been helpful to the extent that they catalog the users of those arms. This note focuses on small arms: pistols, rifles, submachineguns, and machineguns. Both the Republicans and the Nationalists received antitank guns, antiaircraft guns, artillery, mortars, armored vehicles, and aircraft from abroad, but these weapons are beyond the scope of this note. 1 At the Outset At the beginning of the civil war, about 500,000 rifles were in Spain.

  • Weapons Codex for Heroes All (And Fight Your Own Battles)
Weapons Codex for Heroes All (and Fight Your Own Battles) You will find here a list of infantry weapons, artillery, AA guns and armoured vehicles used by British and Commonwealth forces, Germans, French, Italians and Americans. There is also a table showing the values used in the game for generic aircraft types. The list covers most of the major weapons seen throughout the war and each line is then duplicated in the form of a CODEX card which you will find as another FREE download. The cards, when printed out full size, will fit into 66mm x 91mm plastic sleeves which are the standard size for Dungeons & Dragons, Magic The gathering and other major card-based games. These sleeves are available at your local gaming store or through on-line shops. There are also, on the penultimate page, a number of notes to help you to add your own vehicles - details of how the value of the vehicles is reached and how the "number of rounds" figure is calculated. The CODEX does not cover all of the combatant countries of WW2 but it is hoped that this will be rectified in the future with further CODEX pages will be released through the website at www.fightyourownbattles.co.uk Please note that whilst much research has gone into this list, sources and opinions vary, particularly when it comes to the power of AT weapons. The values and classifications given here are representative for this game. If you wish to change any values based on information in your possession, please feel free to do so but do let us know via the website if you believe that the changes should be incorporated into the game.

  • Words from Italy About Infantry with Fp 3 and Ml 6
WORDS FROM ITALY ABOUT INFANTRY WITH FP 3 AND ML 6 In 1990, after perusing my copy of HOLLOW LEGIONS, I typewrote a letter to The Avalon Hill Game Company. I never got answer, maybe the postal sail ship got lost at sea... After twenty years I resort to new technologies to express the same concepts of then: Italian MMCs – and generally all troops with 3 of FP – are too weak to suit in the ASL game system. You could think that this article has a chauvinistic interest or, worst, ideological: I state that Advanced Squad Leader has no power to amend, avenge o excuse anything. It’s just a cardboard game and these words are just about that: gaming, enjoying the game. And the ItASLians are not funny to play. My aim here is to demonstrate how the organization of values on the Italian counters is damaging the gaming experience. In case you forgot, take your Italian counters from the ASL counter mix, look the values: Italian Elite infantry is a 4-4-7 (smoke exponent 1) – like a 1st line Russian infantry, seldom smoking...– there are two kinds of 1st line infantry, both with 3 factors of firepower, the 3-4-7 and the 3-4-6. Conscripts, native infantry, rear line units and ELR failed units are all represented by the 3-3-6. On broken side non-Elite Italians’ ML is lower by one – 5, usually. The 3-4-7 is intended for the Bersaglieri and Carabinieri units, while the bulk of line infantry in scenarios should be represented by the 3-4-6, so Italian 1st line infantry sports both the weakest factors of their gaming system, only 3 of FP e only 6 of ML – after the publication of Armies of oblivion they hold firmly the banner of the weakest infantry in the game.
