1) Director profile: Dr. (Mrs.) Shashikala Gurpur is a distinguished academician and orator having presented more than 200 invited lectures, workshops and seminars across India, Thailand, US, UK, Ireland, Germany, Australia, Canada and UAE. She has an outstanding career with a wide range of experience in teaching, research and industry and has been continuing with Symbiosis Law School, Pune since 2007.

Academic and Research Distinctions: Dr. Gurpur had her formal schooling in Kannada medium in Gurpur, Karnataka. She pursued higher education in science and law from Mangalore University. Dr. Gurpur received her Ph.D. in International Law from Mysore University where she was the topper and Gold medallist in LL.M. Her career span includes long years of experience in legal literacy and gender training, where she served as the Co- Director in gender and human rights-based wing of an NGO for 2 years. She has also worked as HR Manager & Administration in an MNC in Abu Dhabi, UAE from 2004 to 2007. She has more than 24 years of teaching experience which includes tenures in NLSIU, Bangalore, SDM Law College, Mangalore, Manipal Institute of Communication, MAHE, Manipal and University College Cork, Ireland. Her teaching and research interests encompass Jurisprudence, Media Law, International Law and Human Rights, Teaching and Research Methodology, Feminist Legal Studies, Biotechnology Law, Law and Social Transformation besides having guided more than sixty-five Masters and twelve Ph.D. students.

Dr. Gurpur has 65 articles/research papers, two co-authored books and twelve book chapters to her credit. She has guided national award-winning project on Community-based law reforms for National Law School of India in 1991, acted as an Advisor to research project and publication for Asian Network of Women in Communication sponsored by WACC, UK in 1999-2004; won the NPS Sector research grant under Ford Foundation on Gender Advocacy in 2001.

Under the leadership and guidance of Dr. Shashikala Gurpur, Symbiosis Law School, Pune has been a part of various prestigious projects like the Erasmus Mundus Programme, the DAAD “New Passage to India Programme”, the Eurasia Project which is a 3-year action, funded under Key Action 2 Capacity Building in the Field of Higher Education of the Erasmus + Program.

Recognition: Dr. Gurpur has been a member of the Law Commission of India. Currently, she is a part of Curriculum Development Committee, Bar Council of India and Academic Council of National Judicial Academy, Bhopal. She is on the advisory board and is a Ph.D. referee to several National Law Schools and Universities across India including Jawaharlal Nehru University, Mangalore University, Delhi University, Mumbai University, Nagpur University, NLS Jodhpur University, Karnataka State Women’s University, BPS Women’s University, Goa University and Saurashtra University, Gujarat. Dr. Gurpur has been listed in the book ‘100 Legal Luminaries of India’, by LexisNexis along with Dr. N.R. Madhava Menon, Senior Counsel Indira Jaising, Adv. Arun Jaitley, Adv. Ram Jethmalani and others. The community legal service rendered by SLS Pune under her guidance among prison inmates and rural women in Pune won the Herbert Smith Freehills grant in 2016.

Under Dr. Gurpur’s leadership, SLS, Pune had the unique distinction of being the only Indian partner with the Erasmus Mundus Global Consortium of Law Schools in 2008. SLS, Pune has been the recipient of two Erasmus+ CBHE projects in 2019 namely ‘Teacher Training with Specialization on Life and Information Technology Skills’ and ‘Development of a Master Level Programme:' International Law and Forced Migration Studies’.

Dr.Gurpur has been instrumental in mentoring the partnership under DAAD - A New Passage to India with Leibniz University, Hannover and Brunswick European Law School, Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, Germany and SLS, Pune has recently become a part of the DAAD programme with Berlin School of Economics and Law. It has been the recipient of the DAAD Study Trip Program with partner universities in 2008, 2014, 2015 and 2020. It has also been a part of Ontario Maharashtra Goa (OMG) Exchange Program. She has been invited to be a member of the International Advisory Board of the CCLE( Centre for Common Law in Europe, UCD Sutherland School, Ireland) for three years .The remit of the advisory board is to provide oversight and guidance to the CCLE. The CCLE aims to provide a focus in the EU for research into the common law and, in particular, its interface with EU law. To this end, it will showcase its members’ research and provide a forum for dialogue. A National Merit Scholar and National Hindi Scholar between 1980-87, Dr. Gurpur received the AHRB fellowship to Edinburgh University, UK in 2003 and the prestigious Fulbright-Nehru International Education Scholarship in 2011. She was honoured with the Legal Education Innovation Award 2011, conferred by SILF and MILAT. She is a recipient of the Karnataka State Youth Award in 1992 for personal excellence and the “Award for Excellence in Legal Sector” conferred by Vijay Foundation Akluj, Solapur, Maharashtra for special contribution towards empowerment of women & children. She has also been awarded a Certificate of Recognition "My Choice for Equality" by the Global Ethics Forum, Geneva in association with IIM Bangalore, at the Global Ethics Forum Conference, 2014 at IIM Bangalore. She was among 10 nominees from 50 countries for working towards establishing a more equal, impartial and fair world. 3) Career and Professional Development Cell:

The principle body entrusted with the responsibility of managing and conducting the Campus Recruitment in Symbiosis Law School, Pune is the Career & Professional Development Cell. We provide various opportunities so as to ensure a growth oriented student development process. As a part of this, the students are trained, groomed and chiseled to be the best with the combination of managerial and leadership skills and a broad range of professional skills such as advocacy, legal services, legislation, law reforms and advisory.

4) Alumni Cell:

The Alumni Cell, Symbiosis Law School, Pune is a voluntary student body working under the guidance of Director, Symbiosis Law School Pune and Dean Faculty of Law Symbiosis International (Deemed University). The Cell continuously undertakes to strengthen the relations of the alumni of SLS Pune. It has been instrumental in organising the Annual Alumni Meet, regular guest lectures by distinguished alumni in the campus, publishing the annual yearbook ‘Alumni Nexus’.

Symbiosis Centre for Advanced Legal Studies and Research (SCALSAR) Symbiosis Centre for Advanced Legal Studies and Research (SCALSAR) was informally organized in 2007 and formalized in February 2013 by the Board of Management, SIU. It has been established to facilitate advanced legal studies and research. The Centre works in association with the Centre of Postgraduate Legal Studies (CPGLS).

• The center aims at creating and publishing knowledge, acts as a think-tank to the Government, hosts scholars in residence, undertakes interdisciplinary legal studies and research projects, trains teachers and designs training modules.

• Since 2012 SCALSAR has been organizing an Annual Research Conference. For the last three years the International Research Conference has been titled as SYMROLIC representing an interdisciplinary conference in relation to Rule of Law. The conference also includes a research skills workshop.

• The Centre facilitates publication of research papers written by faculty and students in UGC recognised, peer reviewed, indexed/ SCOPUS listed journals. In the last academic session, the faculty members and in some PG / PhD students, published more than 30 research papers in SCOPUS listed journals.

• SCALSAR undertakes Minor and Major Research and Consultancy Projects. Currently there are 2 ICSSR Impress Major Projects and 2 Minor Research Projects in pure legal as well as interdisciplinary research areas.

• The Community Legal Care Centre, which is a part of SCALSAR, carries out legal aid as well as community based projects for various disadvantaged sections of society. Some of the legal aid activities are carried out in collaboration with Pune District Legal Services Authority, Yerwada Central Prison, Criminal Investigation Department Maharashtra and various NGOs. The Centre has adopted Sus village, Tal. Mulshi, Dist. Pune as a part of community outreach programme.

5) Three Year LL.B. Program Profile: SLS, Pune has re-introduced the 3 year LL.B. programme from 2014 which has received an overwhelming response. This three year programme is designed to impart professional legal competence to students from diverse educational backgrounds. The objectives of the programme are-

a) To equip them with; legal knowledge of various legal spheres and skills to perform various roles of a legal professional beyond the traditional role of a litigator for linking their domain knowledge to legal profession. b) Give them an edge over their competitors to lead so that the opportunities to shape social, public and corporate enterprises such as the State, Community organizations and Social Enterprises, become justice sentinels and justice crusaders seek them out. c) Provide hands on experience in legal knowledge, skills, ethics and values so as to be able to work in a fast changing India set in a globalizing world by learning law in a profound way keeping with to contemporary developments. d) Build competence to find, identify and interpret the law in a given situation. e) Enhance knowledge to enable them to resolve the legal problems with the correct application of law. f) Enable them to deploy IT skills to use the electronic resources to find the legal information. g) Demonstrate cognitive skills, problem solving skills, analytical and independent critical thinking with enhanced research capabilities by using different pedagogical methods using collaborative online international learning. h) Help cultivate the ability to appreciate the role of lawyers in justice education in a globalising world sensitive to the needs of sustainability, poverty and vulnerability. i) Acquaint them with the institutions of the legal systems encompassing national, regional ,international and multiple aspects of dispute resolution, with intellectual integrity, critical thinking, and as practice-ready lawyers.

Step 2: All India Admission Test (AIAT)

Admission to Three year LL.B. is offered through Symbiosis All India Admission Test (AIAT). AIAT will be conducted by Online Home Proctored Test.

AIAT broadly consists of Written Test and Personal Interaction:

(A) Online Written Test (AIAT): AIAT Comprising of Writing Sample/ subjective/descriptive answer (WS Two Subjective questions for 20 marks each total for 40 marks) for 65 minutes + 10 objective questions for 20 marks related to socio-legal, politico- legal, current and contemporary topics for 20 minutes + immediately followed by online Psychometric Test of 20 minutes for 10 marks.

There will be time limit to answer the questions. Once the time limit is over, the candidate will lose an opportunity to answer the questions. An answer given by a candidate will be locked so that the candidate will not be able to change the answer. The candidate needs to ensure that the answer is recorded within the stipulated time limit.

Date for AIAT Online Home Proctored Test: The AIAT will be conducted on 13th July 2021.

Step 3: Online Personal Interaction (PI) there will be total 30 marks for PI: Personal Interaction is intended to test the Personal Attributes, Fitment, Work Experience, global outlook, professionalism, ethics, values and Statement of Purpose of a candidate.

A) Schedule for SLS Pune Online PI (Personal Interaction) SLS Pune will conduct Online PI (Personal Interaction) on 26th & 27th July, 2021- LL.B. B) Time for PI: Each candidate will get a maximum up to 6-8 minutes for PI. The candidate needs to be ready at the given time without any excuse by following the instructions given by SLS Pune-SIU.

Note: You are requested to upload soft copy of the Statement of Purpose (SOP), not more than 250 words, and soft copy of the one Letter of Recommendation mentioning conduct, character, traits etc. (reference letter shall be from the Head/Supervisor/Professor of your Institute/College) and other relevant documents as per the scheduled for AIAT & after successful completion of AIAIT invited for PI process provided by the institute. This programme is designed to impart professional legal competence in three years, among professionals from other disciplines. Students will be able to-

The 12th Edition of Symbhav, Symbiosis Law School, Pune’s Annual Cultural Fest was inaugurated on 27th February, 2020 and was held from 27th February to 1st March, 2020. Internationalisation of the Indian Legal System”, - and the 9th Edition of Law Theatre, titled “Genda Phool” was presented by the students of SLS-P on the legal issue of marital rape and domestic violence and was based on judgments like State of West Bengal v. Anwar Ali Sarkar (AIR 1952 SC 75) & Navtej Singh Johar v. Union of India (AIR 2018 SC 4321). With more than fifty exciting events, the fest took flight with contingents from the top colleges of the country participating in events such as ‘Ablaze’- the fashion show, War of the DJs, Battle of the Bands, Mr. and Ms. Symbhav, Participants of Group Dance Event presenting a moving performance Group Dance, Football, Futsal and Basketball tournaments, Treasure Hunt, Sportify, Short Film Making and Gear Heads. The pronites proved to get bigger and better with many incredible musical performances by Lojal and Rada, Gurbax, Gully Gang, Karonik and Ritviz.

The Alumni Cell and Committee organised an Online ONLINE ALUMNI MEET 2020 Alumni Meet, amid the pandemic, on 14th June, 2020. The theme for the meet was “Calls Beyond Seas: Post- Covid Recovery of Transnational Businesses and Professions.” Dr. Shashikala Gurpur, Director, SLS, Pune, Dean, Faculty of Law, SIU, delivered the welcome address. This was followed by an interactive discussion moderated by Ms. Sakshi Barbate and Ms. Shipra Agarwal (Members, Alumni Committee & Cell). The alumni shared their experiences, and several notable Online Alumni Meet, organized by Alumni Cell and Committee, on a virtual platform alumni like Mr. Shirshendu Banerjee (Associate at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas), Mr. Abir Lal Dey (Partner at Luthra & Luthra), Ms. Bhavani Kumar (Associate at King & Partridge) provided their valuable inputs. Alumni from all over the globe, including alumni from Canada, USA and Myanmar joined the meet. This lively discussion was followed by the discussion of a Roadmap for International Alumni Agenda- Creating and Expanding Social Chapters - under the able guidance of Dr. Gurpur and Mr. Sampath Bulusu- Convenor of Alumni Committee.
