The Prelude

The Prayer of Invocation and The Lord’s Prayer (SEATED)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Hymn #38 – Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise

Immortal, Invisible, God only wise, in light inaccessible hid from our eyes, most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting and silent as light, nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might; Thy justice like mountains high soaring above Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light, Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight; All praise we would render; O help us to see ‘tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee!

TheConfession of Sin (SEATED)

ALL:

God of everlasting love,

We confess that we have been unfaithful to our covenant with you and with one another. We have worshipped other gods: money, power, greed, and convenience. We have served our own self-interest instead of serving only you and your people. We have not loved our neighbors as you have commanded. Forgive us, gracious God, and bring us back into the fullness of our covenant with you and one another. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

The Silent Confession of Private Sin

The Assurance of Pardon: Romans 5:1 (STANDING)

Hymn—Let Us Love and Sing and Wonder (STANDING)

Let us love and sing and wonder, let us praise the Savior’s name! He has hushed the laws loud thunder, he has quenched Mount Sinai’s flame; He has washed us with his blood, he has washed us with his blood He has washed us with his blood , he has brought us nigh to God.

Let us love the Lord who bought us, pitied us when enemies, Called us by his grace and taught us, gave us ears and gave us eyes; He has washed us with his blood , he has washed us with his blood He has washed us with his blood, he presents our souls to God.

Let us sing though fierce temptation, threatens hard to bear us down, For the Lord, our strong salvation, holds in view the conqu’ror’s crown He, who washed us with his blood, he, who washed us with his blood, He, who washed us with his blood, soon will bring us home to God

Let us wonder grace and justice join and point to mercy’s store When through grace in Christ our trust is justice smiles and asks no more He who washed us with his blood, he who washed us with his blood He who washed us with his blood has secured our way to God

Let us praise and join the chorus, of the saints enthroned on high Here they trusted him before us now their praises fill the sky Thou hast washed us with thy blood, thou hast washed us with thy blood Thou hast washed us with thy blood thou art worthy Lamb of God.

The Prayer of Praise

The reading: Luke 4:16-21 (SEATED)

16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. 17 And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”20 And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. 21 And he began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

Leader: This is the Word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

“God Is King Over All the Earth”

Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy! 2 For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared, a great king over all the earth.3 He subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet.4 He chose our heritage for us, the pride of whom he loves. 5 God has gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.6 Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises! 7 For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm!8 God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne. 9 The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of . For the shields of the earth belong to God; he is highly exalted!

Main Idea: The Scriptures invite us to celebrate and to worship our God who is the King of all the earth. He is the true King that we need. His kingdom has begun and continues to advance.

All creatures of our God and King, lift up your voice and with us sing alleluia, alleluia! Thou burning sun with golden beam, thou silver moon with softer gleam, O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Thou rushing wind that art so strong, ye clouds that sail in heav’n along, O praise him, alleluia! Thou rising morn in praise rejoice, ye lights of evening, find a voice, O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Thou flowing water, pure and clear, make music for thy Lord to hear, alleluia, alleluia! Thou fire so masterful and bright, that givest man both warmth and light, O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

And all ye men of tender heart, forgiving others, take your part, O sing ye, alleluia! Ye who long pain and sorrow bear, praise God and on him cast your care, O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Let all things their Creator bless, and worship him in humbleness, O praise him, alleluia! Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son, and praise the Spirit, three in one, O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
