- Kansas Wesleyan University is 2-5 overall and 2-4 in the KCAC. The Coyotes are on a three game losing streak, falling to Ottawa 47-19 in Ottawa. In its last three losses, KWU is averaging 13 points per game while allowing 37 points per game.

Coach Sowers is in her first season as head coach of the Scott’s Career Win-Loss Breakdown OU women’s flag football program. She played Neutral...... 2-1 Conference Games...... 6-0 for the West Michigan Mayhem, the Kansas City Titans, Conference Regular Season Titles...... 0 and the Kansas City Tribe. Sowers currently plays quarterback for the Kansas Conference Post Season Tournament Championships...... 0 City Glory in the WNFC. She was a First Team All-American receiver for the Titans from 2010 to 2013 and 2015 to 2017. As a member of the Tribe, Sowers led the nation (more than 70 teams) with 987 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns.

Sowers was a member of the 2016, 2018, and 2021 USA’s Women’s Flag Football team. She was also a member of the Sevens Rugby team in 2014, and the Women’s Tackle Football team in 2013 and 2017. The USA Women’s Tackle Football Team earned a gold medal in the IFAF World Championships.

Sowers was a selected participant at the NFL’s Women’s Careers in Football Forum in Orlando, Fla., in January 2018. She oversaw team operations and was a player liaison for the women’s soccer club, FC Kansas City, in 2017. From March 2015 to May 2016, Sowers was a Heads-Up Football Assistant Master Trainer for USA Football.

While working for USA Football, she helped conduct player safety coach clinics, assisted in NFL Play60 camps during the 2015 and 2016 drafts in Chicago, helped with numerous Chiefs camps and clinics, and the women’s mini-camp and girl scouts takeover camps.

Sowers earned a Master of Arts degree in Higher Education with an emphasis in Sports Administration at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in May 2013. She was a graduate assistant with the Kansas City women’s basketball program, where she handled film exchange and equipment, while also serving as the team’s graphic designer for marketing and recruiting purposes.

Sowers played four years of college basketball, spending her first two seasons at in Hesston, Kan. She earned an associates degree in liberal arts in May 2006, and was named a NJCAA All-American. Sowers set an HC school record for points in a single game (45), points in a season (606) and points in a career (1,100). She played her final two years at NCAA Division I Oakland University in Rochester, Mich. Sowers helped the Golden Grizzlies to a pair of league championships. She also excelled in the classroom and was named Summit League Academic All-Conference in 2008.

OTTAWABRAVES.COM @bravesathletics ottawa flag football game notes april 17, 2021 KATIE SOWERS Coach Sowers is in her first season as an assistant coach with the Ottawa University women’s flag football program. She is the Offensive and Defensive Scheme Advisor for the Braves. Sowers has joined her sister this spring in helping to build OU’s first women’s flag football program and continues to break down barriers, while now encouraging, supporting and helping to create more opportunities for women to pursue their passion and competitive goals in the sport of football.

Most recently, sowers was an offensive assistant coach with the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League from 2017 to 2021. She made history becoming the first female coach on an NFL staff to coach in a Super Bowl. Prior to her time with the 49ers, Sowers was a wide receivers coaching intern with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons.

Sowers played football in the Women’s Football Alliance for the West Michigan Mayhem and her hometown team, the Kansas City Titans. Sowers and her sister, head women’s flag football coach Liz Sowers, played together in 2009 for the West Michigan Mayhem. Sowers led the team with four interceptions, one INT returned for a touchdown, and was fourth on the team in tackles with 30.

She played again with her sister in 2013 for the Kansas City Titans, helping them to the playoffs with a record of 6-2. Sowers had 19 receptions for 314 yards and seven touchdowns. She was the second leading rusher on the team with 424 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns. Sowers led the team in sacks and interceptions.

Sowers was also selected to play on the USA Women’s National Football team in 2013. That team won the IFAF World Championship defeating Team Canada, 64-0.

Sowers spent two years at Hesston College where she was a two year letterman on the women’s basketball team. She transferred to Goshen College graduating with a degree in physical education. Sowers was a member of the GC basketball, soccer, and track teams. She holds the school record in the javelin and competed in that event twice at the NAIA Track and Field National Championships

Sowers earned her masters degree from the University of Central Missouri in Kinesiology in 2012.

SHEILA SICKAU Coach Sickau is in her first season as a assistant coach with the OU women’s flag football team. She is in charge of operations for the Braves.

Sickau plays women’s professional tackle football for the Kansas City Glory of the Women’s National Football Conference (WNFC). She played for Knoxville Lightning and Kansas City Titans. She was a First Team All-American kicker for the Titans in 2018. Sickau currently plays punter, kicker, and wide receiver for the Kansas City Glory. She is a teammate of OU head women’s flag football coach Liz Sowers. Sickau was selected to coach at Manning Passing Academy Inaugural Women’s & Girl’s Camp in 2018.

Sickau is a sales representative with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs. She generated over $475,000 of new revenue before and during the 2019 sea- son through season tickets and group ticket sales. Sickau also created and implemented new selling strategies as the sales climate changes based upon upcoming events, team news, inventory needs, and various ticket campaigns. She was one of 10 co-workers who spearheaded the team’s non-profit fundraising campaign across six states as part of the public outreach commitment in 2018.

Before coming to the Kansas City area, Sickau was a special education teacher in the Norris, Tenn. and the Knoxville, Tenn. areas.

Sickau has a professional teaching certificate in Special Education and in Childhood Education. She is a Level I USA Track and Field certificated coach, a Team USA SafeSport certificate, and a certificate in USA Football (Flag).

Sickau attended SUNY Binghamton where she was an NCAA Division I track and field athlete. She was a Scholar-Athlete for the America East Conference. She then attended Canisius College, earning a bachelor of science in childhood and special education in 2011. While at Canisius College, she was a member of the track and field and equestrian teams. Sickau was on the Dean’s List with Special Distinction and graduate Magna Cum Laude.
