Included is a discussion that identifies dishonest acting and the actor training that results in it. A definition of what truth onstage consists of is contrasted with a description of impractical acting exercises that should be avoided. The consequences of acting with bullshit are revealed. The article concludes with a description of the most practical and honest acting exercise. If you are a performance artist who loves shows with no dialogue, characters without names, or an unconnected series of events in lieu of plot, this essay isn’t for you.
