Wisconsin SEASON Ave. | Oconomowoc, WI Sharon Milway THEOAC.NET 3 From the oac director... Welcome back to our 7th presenting season at the OAC… The OAC staff and programming committee continue to look for ways to improve on seasons past. We think we have accomplished that with an outstanding lineup of professional entertainment for 2015-16. Television and Broadway star Tom Wopat opens the season with songs from his latest CD I’ve Got Your Number, music from the Mad Men Era. A Wisconsin native, Mr. Wopat is also credited with founding the “Tommy Awards” a recognition of high school musical theater throughout the state. Oconomowoc High School has been a recipient of 79 awards to date including four “Outstanding Musical” awards, including Singin’ in the Rain for 2015. At the height of football season, John Pinero stars in Vince: The Life and Times of Vince Lombardi. You will be moved and inspired by this one man tour de force performance. For the Christmas holidays, Cherish the Ladies: A Celtic Christmas will bring their Celtic rhythms and high energy to the main stage. A great show for the entire family. In January, Ted Vigil: A John Denver Tribute will take us back to the voice of one of pop and country’s most memorable performers. The Paragon Ragtime Orchestra, in April, recalls the golden age of American ragtime music including the music of the silent film era. Finally in May, the OAC is delighted to announce a special partnership with In Tandem Theater, Milwaukee and Milwaukee Opera Theater to present Ernest in Love, the musical theater adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s comic masterpiece, The Importance of Being Earnest starring one of Milwaukee’s most prominent actresses, Angela Iannone as Lady Bracknell. A comical, musical treat for all ages. The Cabaret Café series returns with three critically acclaimed shows Electri-Violet, the jazz, blues, R & B sound of Carole Ferrara and John Plankenhorn in January. Hot Tango returns by popular demand featuring accordion virtuoso Stas Venglevski and Oconomowoc favorite Mark Carlstein on piano just in time for Valentine’s Day weekend. In March, Tallymoore, one of Milwaukee’s newest and most exciting contemporary Irish groups bring their toe tapping strut to the Little theater. Our Chef’s, Jenny Truchan and George Herrera, are planning all new mouth- watering menus for your enjoyment. Order early though, this popular series usually sells out! Our Visual Arts and Comedy series featuring ComedySportz along with award-winning performing arts programs by our school district and several community arts organizations create a vivid palette of entertainment opportunities. “Imagine a Day Youth Arts Gallery”... Thanks to a generous gift from “The Courtney Bella Foundation” the OAC is proud to present our first, exclusively designed gallery for young artists 4K-12. This new gallery will feature work from all our schools including Dedicated to Your Satisfaction Since 1870 district, private and other area youth organizations. Watch for scheduling of gallery events on the OAC website. The 2015-16 Partnership Program is now closed, but gifts under $500 for the Producer’s Circle Program are being accepted through December 31, 2015. Cash or in-kind donation information is available by contacting me at the arts center, at [email protected] or 262.560.2130. A special thanks to those sponsors of our current season. They are recognized on our lobby board and in event playbills. Please support them generously. Hailed by critics as "A stereotype-smashing glimpse into the soul of the South seas" (Wired Magazine), "the finest South Pacific roots band" (World Music Central) and “one of the greatest South Pacific bands of all time” (Fiji Times), Te Vaka is an original voice in the contemporary music of the Pacific. Led by award-winning singer-songwriter Opetaia Foa‘i, [pronounced OH-PEH-TIE-YA FOE- AYE], Te Vaka’s infectious melodies, Polynesian drums, and world beat rhythms draw on its roots in the cultures of Tokelau, Samoa, Cook Islands, and New Zealand Maori as well as today’s funk, pop, and rock sensibilities. On August 14, Disney announced at its sold-out fan expo D23 that Opetaia Foa‘i is composing the songs for the new Disney animated “princess” feature Moana (scheduled for November 2016 release). The musical team includes Tony-winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (lyrics) and Grammy-winning composer Mark Mancina (“Tarzan” “The Lion King”) (film score). Te Vaka started to record these songs for the soundtrack in August.
