The announcement is an important step in the year-lonG process to elect the newest class of enshrinees. Here is a timeline for the election of the Class of 2019. Aug. 17, 2018 – The Seniors committee, a sUbset of the overall selection committee, met to review the qUalifications of those players whose careers ended more than 25 years aGo. The committee nominated Johnny Robinson, the lonGtime safety of the Kansas City Chiefs. Aug. 23, 2018 – The ContribUtors committee met to review individUals other than players and coaches who made outstandinG contribUtions to pro football. They named two contribUtor finalists – Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen and Gil Brandt, the personnel GUrU for the Dallas Cowboys and lonGtime contribUtor to NFL.com. Feb. 2, 2019 – “Selection SatUrday.” The annual Pro Football Hall of FaMe Selection CoMMittee Meeting will be held in Atlanta when the 48-person Selection Committee meets to elect the Class of 2019. The new class will be revealed to the nation that eveninG during NFL Honors, a two-hour primetime awards special to air nationally on the eve of SUper Bowl LIII at 9 p.m. (ET and PT) on CBS. Aug. 3, 2019 – The Class of 2019 will be officially enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame dUrinG the spectacular EnshrineMent Ceremony held inside Tom Benson Hall of Fame StadiUm at Johnson Controls Hall of Fame VillaGe in Canton. YEAR-BY-YEAR LONGEST FIELD GOAL The Hall’s archives staff compiled a year-by-year list of the lonGest field Goals from each season since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970. Fourteen (14) of those seasons inclUded a field Goal of 60 yards or lonGer. The lonGest field Goal in NFL history was converted by Matt Prater of the Denver Broncos who connected on a 64-yarder aGainst the Tennessee Titans on Dec. 8, 2013.
