  • The Testament of Solomon, Translated by F
The Testament of Solomon, translated by F. C. Conybeare This text is an Old Testament Pseudepigraphic catalog of demons summoned by King Solomon, and how they can be countered by invoking angels and other magical techniques. It is one of the oldest magical texts attributed to King Solomon, dating First to Third Century A.D. Translation is by F. C. Conybeare, Jewish Quarterly Review, October, 1898. Compare with the translation of D. C. Duling in The Old Testament Pseudepigrapha, volume 1, Edited by James H. Charlesworth, Doubleday, 1983, p. 935 ff. [15] The Testament of Solomon (translated from the codex of the Paris Library, after the edition of Fleck, Wissensch. Reise, bd. ii. abth. 3) NOTES: Greek title:-- 1. Testament of Solomon, son of David, who was king in Jerusalem, and mastered and controlled all spirits of the air, on the earth, and under the earth. By means of them also he wrought all the transcendent works of the Temple. Telling also of the authorities they wield against men, and by what angels these demons are brought to naught. Of the sage Solomon. Blessed art thou, O Lord God, who didst give Solomon such authority. Glory to thee and might unto the ages. Amen. 2. And behold, when the Temple of the city of Jerusalem was being built, and the artificers were working thereat, Ornias the demon came among them toward sunset; and he took away half of the 1. [D: master workman’s ] pay of the chief-deviser's (?)1 little boy, as well as half his food. [16] He also continued to suck the thumb of his right hand every day.

Introduction by J. H. Peterson. Johann Weyer (1515-1588) was a pioneer in the fields of medicine and psychiatry. He was also a firm believer in magic, and was in fact a student of one of the most famous occultists of all time, H. C. Agrippa. His Praestigiis Daemonum (1563) was basically a point-by-point rebuttal of the hateful witch hunter's handbook, Malleus Maleficarum. His book includes interesting reports of Faust, Agrippa, and Trithemius from a contemporary witness. Sigmund Freud calls the Praestigiis Daemonum one of the ten most significant books of all time. As an appendix to this monumental text, Weyer added a catalog of demons which he called Pseudomonarchia daemonum. Weyer referred to his source manuscript as Liber officiorum spirituum, seu Liber dictus Empto. Salomonis, de principibus & regibus dæmoniorum ("Book of the offices of spirits, or the Book of sayings of Empto.

  • Whispering Woods Basic Demonology Course
Whispering Woods Basic Demonology course Ancient Greek “daimon‖ is a word for "spirit" or "divine power". Demons, when regarded as spirits, may belong to either of the classes of spirits recognized by primitive animism; that is to say, they may be human, or non-human, separable souls, or discarnate spirits which have never inhabited a body. Goetia is the common name for that branch of Ceremonial Magic that deals with the conjuration of infernal spirits or demons. Preface from Crick: As a Traditional witch I has never been a member of any of the Abrahamic religions. And so in accordance with my personal beliefs, I do not categorize Demons in the same perspective as presented by the Abrahamic religious interpretations. Rather I see demons as a separate entity from that of humankind. As such they do not necessarily conform to the rules of humans. In fact the original meaning of the word daemon does not carry any negative connotations. The connotation of demons being evil was in large part introduced by the spread of Christianity. It should be noted that over the centuries, various enlightened personas have described demons in less nefarious ways. For instance Homer used the terms "demons" and "gods" more or less interchangeably. Another school of thought was that demons were intermediaries between men and gods, and that demons had once been men. Plutarch (Greek philosopher and author) speaks of "human souls as commencing, first as heroes, then demons, and afterward as advancing to a more sublime degree." Philo of Byblus (historical Greek writer) states that, "The most ancient of the barbarians, especially the Phoenicians and Egyptians, from whom other people derived this custom, accounted those the ―greatest gods‖ who had found out things most necessary and useful in life and had been benefactors to mankind." So as you can see from these observations, demons are within a class of their own.

According to some authors he has forty legions of demons under his command, having the title of prince. There is no agreement on how to depict him, being sometimes portrayed as an owl-headed man, and sometimes as a wolf-headed man with snake tail. Although some demonologists have associated his name with the Egyptian god Ammon, it is more plausible its derivation from the Semitic god Baal Hammon, also worshipped in some areas of northern Egypt that had been in contact with Semitic tribes.

  • Some Brief Advice for the Curious Reader
Some Brief Advice For The Curious Reader. This story is what the Author would term a ‘Modernist’ piece of literature. It will be a complex read. It is a work that aims to maintain a self-conscious break with traditional ways of writing, and is in the same literary spirit as ‘Finnegans Wake.’ It may be a daunting, even slightly confusing, piece of literature for the general reader to tuck into. Hence, the Author has taken the liberty to provide some brief advice on how to go about reading this particular work. It’s structured like a dream. In fact, certain sections flow like dreams. Incorporating a technique called ‘magical realism’, the tale contains many fantasy elements in a realistic setting. Many sections of the piece can be interpreted literally, or allegorically. How much of the story is allegorical or literal? That is for the reader to decide. The story is set in an unspecified time, roughly in the early 1800’s when whale-hunting is at its peak. The language of the story is a varied mix of rich Jacobean English (known for its use of ‘thee’, ‘thou’, and so forth), rustic Quaker English (which is essentially Jacobean English without the ‘th’s at the end of certain present-tense verbs), and the standard contemporary English of our time. 1 The story makes use of heavy symbology, including symbology of numbers and names. Characters can embody concepts, be extensions of ideas, or just be plain fodder for the narrative. Which characters fill which roles is determined by the reader.
