ABOUT THE HUAMEI ACADEMY In 2010, Dalian American International School launched an exciting new high school division: the Huamei Academy, which serves Chinese national students Grades 9-12 on the same campus in a boarding environment. Huamei Academy students are committed to seeking their tertiary abroad and experience a broad range of academic subjects and co-curricular activities delivered by a staff of international educators. MISSION The Huamei Academy at Dalian American International School provides challenging, collaborative and responsive experiences that engage learners in developing intellect, character, and health. At the Huamei Academy, every learner achieves personal excellence and contributes to the global community.

ACCREDITATION AND ACADEMIC PROGRAMS Huamei is fully accredited through the Western Association of Schools and (WASC) and offers a US and International Preparatory Curriculum. The school is committed to providing a positive and nurturing environment that promotes learning and discovery.

FACULTY The Huamei Academy staff is made of experienced teachers hailing from 8 differet countries, including the US, Canada, China, England, and more. All faculty members hold a bachelor degree, and nearly 60% of the faculty have a master’s degree or higher.

CAMPUS AND FACILITIES The Huamei Academy is housed in a purpose-built facility that provides over 8,000 sq. meters of learning space. In addition to spacious, well-resourced classrooms, the school has a secondary science lab, elementary science lab, computer lab, library/media center, dance studio, and large indoor spaces for active play during inclement weather. Boarding students have the opportunity to develop deeper friendships and address personal differences in a safe, highly-supervised, and supportive environment.

In this diverse and welcoming learning environment, all students can improve their language, communication skills, and cultural understandings. Students of the Huamei Academy are also encouraged to grow through programs like: • Robust curriculum: Students dive into subjects like Lanugage Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Language, Fine Arts, Applied Studies, and Junior/Senior Seminars. • Technology: HM is committed to the development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) literacy in all students. There is high-speed internet access in all classrooms and offices, and all students take computer classes and attend the labs for ongoing classroom assignments. • Counseling Department: The Counseling Department provides emotional, socal and academic support, as well as guidance in career preparation/college and planning for all students. • Library Media Center: The collection consists of about 9,000 fiction and nonfiction books, 100eference r sources, a selection of periodicals, videos and sound material, and professional resources. • Diverse AP Offerings: With 17 AP course offerings, students have the opportunity to study subjects like: Biology, Physics C, Chemistry, Calculus AB & BC, English Language, Psychology, Human Geography, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Studio Art, Music Theory, World History and more. • School Life and Boarding Support: Healthy choices and personal development are highly valued at Huamei, so the student life program supports boarding students in four main areas: Time Management and Self-Help, Study Skills, English Enrichment, and Homework Assistance, Extra-Curricular Activities, and Social Skills
