  • Students' Perceptions Concerning the Site Visit in History, ICSS, Malaysia
Uluslar arası Sosyal Bilimler Eğitimi Dergisi - USBED• International Social Science Education of Journal – ISSEJ Yaz/Summer Volume I Issue I Article II Students’ Perceptions Concerning the Site Visit in History, ICSS, Malaysia MohamadJohdiSalleh * Abstract The study is essentially an exploratory survey, which sets out to obtain some concrete information on the students’ perception concerning the site visit in the teaching and learning of history, Integrated Curriculum for Secondary Schools (ICSS) Malaysia. The researcher employed the ‘convenience sampling’ method and selected two states in Malaysia, namely Perak and Terengganu, involving four hundred students from each state. The data was collected through distribution of questionnaire and interviews. The findings of the questionnaire reveal that the score in Perakwas higher than Terengganu, boys score higher than girls, Form Four score the highest among the level of education, and, interestingly, both science and religious have the same number of responses in the type of schools categories. As an addition, it was discovered from interviews that site visits allow for student-centred learning, giving students the chance to improve their own skills in using concrete evidence and developing essential historical skills. At the same time it enables students to develop truly cross-curricular skills of various subjects including mathematics and science. It is hoped that the study would raise concern, awareness and benefit to all involved in the teaching and learning of history in the ICSS Malaysia, and school students across the world in this era of globalization. Keywords: students’ perceptions – site visits - advantages Introduction The history fieldwork was introduced into the Integrated Curriculum for Secondary Schools (ICSS) Malaysia in 1988 and reviewed in 2000 and 2008.

  • Seasonal Variability of Groundwater Quality in Kapas Island
Chapter Seasonal Variability of Groundwater Quality in Kapas Island, Terengganu, Malaysia Mohmadisa Hashim, Arijatul Wardah Ahmad, Zahid Mat Said, Nasir Nayan, Hanifah Mahat, Yazid Saleh and Koh Liew See Abstract The chapter aims to evaluate the groundwater quality levels in Kapas Island, Terengganu, Malaysia during the monsoon changes of the Southwest Monsoon (SWM), Monsoon Transition (MT) and Northeast Monsoon (NEM) in 2018. Four locations were used for groundwater sampling namely, the Kapas Coral Beach Resort, Kapas Beach Chalet, Pak Ya Seaview Chalet, and Kapas Island Resort. Three water samplings at each station for every month in the monsoon. Six parameters of the Malaysian Water Quality Index (WQI), i.e., dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solids (TSS) and ammoniacal nitrogen (NH3-N), were used to evaluate the water quality. The findings showed the groundwater quality parameters are in Class I and II. However, according to WQI Malaysia, the water quality status during the three monsoons is slightly polluted. During the SWM, the WQI value was 76 (Class III), the MT was 77 (Class II), and the NEM was WQI 71 (Class III). Given this status, it requires more intensive water treatment as it is not suitable for direct drinking water supply. The implications of the study show that the quality of groundwater in Kapas Island has to improve by the tour operators. Keywords: water quality index, groundwater, slightly polluted, water treatment, island tourism 1. Introduction The increase in the population of an area will have an impact on the demand for clean water supply.

The Globalization of Chinese Food ANTHROPOLOGY OF ASIA SERIES Series Editor: Grant Evans, University ofHong Kong Asia today is one ofthe most dynamic regions ofthe world. The previously predominant image of 'timeless peasants' has given way to the image of fast-paced business people, mass consumerism and high-rise urban conglomerations. Yet much discourse remains entrenched in the polarities of 'East vs. West', 'Tradition vs. Change'. This series hopes to provide a forum for anthropological studies which break with such polarities. It will publish titles dealing with cosmopolitanism, cultural identity, representa tions, arts and performance. The mean concentrations of ammonia, nitrate, total dissolved N and total particulate N were 43 µg/L N, 195 µg/L N, 485 µg/L N, 431 µg/L N, respectively. In contrast to N, lower mean concentrations of P were recorded with values of 2.30 µg/L P (dissolved inorganic P), 4.84 µg/L P (total dissolved P) and 8.35 µg/L P (total particulate P). In general, higher concentrations of nutrients were recorded in the middle and lower reaches of the river basin due to human activities. Elevated levels of both forms of nutrients were present during the wet season due to terrestrial run-off to the water column.

The convent, established in 1854 in central Singapore, is now the ‗premier lifestyle destination‘, CHIJMES. I show that the Sisters were early providers of social services and girls‘ education, with an orphanage, women‘s refuge and schools for girls. They survived the turbulent years of the Japanese Occupation of Singapore and adapted to the priorities of the new government after independence, expanding to become the largest cloistered convent in Southeast Asia.
