29 Songs! 1952:ZudenHitsgehören Tex Ritters High Noon,Hank Thompsons Wild Side Of Life und Kitty Wells' Answer-Song It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels, Hank Williams' Jambalaya,Slim Whitmans Indian Love Call und Webb Pierces Back Street Affair. Raritäten sind u.a.: Lattie Moores beispielhafter Rockabilly-Klassiker Juke Joint Johnny, Doye O'Dells früher Trucker-Klassiker Diesel Smoke und Slim Willetts seltene Originalaufnahme von Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes.26Songs! 1953: Bei den Hits sind vertreten: Hank Williams' Your Cheatin' Heart,Hank Snows AFool Such As I, Arlie Duffs Y'All Come, The Davis Sisters' IForgot More Than You'll Ever Know,JimReeves' Mexican Joe und Webb Pierces There Stands The Glass. Raritäten sind u.a.: Johnny Bonds Let Me GoDevil (das Original von Let Me Go Lover), Tommy Duncans frühe Country-Version von Hound Dog,Darrell Glenns Original von Crying In The Chapel und Joe Maphis' Original von Dim Lights, Thick Smoke And Loud Loud Music.28Songs! 1954:Zuden Hits zählen u.a. Stuart Hamblens Original von This Ole House, Eddy Arnolds Original von I Really Don't Want To Know,RayPrices frühe Fassung von Release Me und Hank Snows IDon't Hurt Any More. Raritäten sind Sonny Burns' Honky-Tonk- Klassiker TooHot To Handle und Terry Fells Originalversion von Truck Drivin' Man.28Songs! 1955:Unter den Hits sind Fess Parkers originale Ballad Of Davy Crockett,Webb Pierces In The Jailhouse Now,Johnny Cashs Cry, Cry, Cry,Faron Youngs Live Fast, Love Hard, Die Young, Tennessee Ernies Sixteen Tons und Porter Wagoners Original-Hit- Version von Satisfied Mind.Raritäten sind u.a. Jimmy Deans Big Blue Diamonds, Arthur Smiths Feudin' Banjos (das Original von Dueling Banjos aus dem Film 'Deliverance') und George Jones' Why Baby Why, das nie zuvor uneditiert wiederveröffentlicht wurde! 31 Songs! SOUND RECORDING REVIEWS Chicago Symphony Orchestra: The First Hundred Years CS090/12 (12 CDs: monaural, stereo; ADD)1 Available only from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, 220 S. Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL, for $175 plus $5 shipping and handling. The Centennial Collection-Chicago Symphony Orchestra RCA-Victor Gold Seal, GD 600206 (3 CDs; monaural, stereo, ADD and DDD). (total time 3:36:3l2). A "musical trivia" question: "Which American symphony orchestra was the first to record under its own name and conductor?" You will find the answer at the beginning of the 12-CD collection, The Chicago Symphony Orchestra: The First 100 Years, issued by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO). The date was May 1, 1916, and the conductor was Frederick Stock. 3 This is part of the orchestra's celebration of the hundredth anniversary of its founding by Theodore Thomas in 1891. Thomas is represented here, not as a conductor (he died in 1904) but as the arranger of Wagner's Triiume. But all of the other conductors and music directors are represented, as well as many guests. With one exception, the 3-CD set, The Centennial Collection: Chicago Symphony Orchestra, from RCA-Victor is drawn from the recordings that the Chicago Symphony made for that company. All were released previously, in various formats-mono and stereo, 78 rpm, 45 rpm, LPs, tapes, and CDs-as the technologies evolved. Although the present digital processing varies according to source, the sound is generally clear; the Reiner material is comparable to RCA-Victor's on-going reissues on CD of the legendary recordings produced by Richard Mohr.

G Sweet Little Miss Blue Eyes und If You Got Anything Good werden häufig als zwei der besten Country-Duette aller Zeiten bezeichnet.

  • JAMES RAE “JIM” DENNY (1911-1963) Music Publisher
JAMES RAE “JIM” DENNY (1911•1963) Music publisher, booking agent, long•time manager of the Grand Ole Opry, and promoter of Nashville’s music industry, was born in Buffalo Valley, Putnam County, TN. As a young man, Denny found work as a mail clerk with the National Life and Accident Insurance Company, parent organization to WSM and the Grand Ole Opry. With growing interest in country music, Denny was running the WSM Artists Service Bureau by 1946, booking Opry talent and other WSM acts. Denny eventually managed the Grand Ole Opry itself. Denny, along with his predecessor, Jack Stapp, is responsible for updating the face of the Opry. As promoters and developers of talent, they helped to transform the Opry from a popular barn dance to a showcase of country superstars, ensuring its growth and long•term success. During their tenure, the cast grew enormously, most major stars became Opry members, and an Opry appearance became a must goal for many performers. In 1954 Denny and Opry star Webb Pierce formed Cedarwood Publishing Company, for a time the most important publishing house in Nashville. Driftwood Music, a companion firm, was a partnership between Denny and Carl Smith, another Opry star. These business interests led to conflict of interest allegations by WSM and eventually Denny’s dismissal. With his knowledge of WSM operations, Denny achieved immediate success as a booking agent. The Jim Denny Bureau served most of the artists Denny had signed while at the Opry. Billboard magazine estimated that, by 1961, the bureau was handling over 3,300 personal appearances worldwide.

SALES NOTES During his long career, which spanned more than three decades, few artists have blazed as many trails as Red Foley. He became country music's first 'crossover' artist. He was also the first country singer to be featured on network radio and television programs. Foley was hugely popular wherever he went, beginning with his years as 'Rambling Red' on WLS Chicago's 'National Barn Dance,' and continuing with the 'Renfro Valley Barn Dance,' and finally as the genial host of the famed 'Grand Ole Opry' and the landmark television show, 'Ozark Jubilee.' Foley's life was a tragic one. In retrospect, his personal problems seem insurmountable, yet Foley's charisma and talent saw him through these troubled times; his many recordings are his finest legacy. Nearly every Nashville-based star of his stature has had his or her story told by now, everyone except Red Foley. This box set and hardcover book document Foley's remarkable recording career. Included is every commercial recording made by Foley up to 1950, with the exception of his sacred and children's recordings.

And actors such as Clint Eastwood or Kirk Douglas also made some (more or less convincing) attempts as singers. Here BEAR FAMILY presents – for the first time on vinyl since decades – an exceptional collectors item: the theme tunes from three Western classics (‘Rio Bravo,’ ‘Paint Your Wagon’ and ‘Bonanza’) plus Gene Pitney’s ballad about The Man Who Shot Liberty Va- lance, inspired by the movie of the same name featuring James Stewart.
