On-Field Results On-field the club had a large number of teams make the finals. This included our A-Turf, B-Turf and C-Turf, Under 11s, Under 13s, Under 15s, and Under 17s. This shows a lot of depth for the club, and bodes well for the future. Thanks to all the contributors and volunteers to these teams, including coaches, parents, scorers, transporters, general helpers. The Sunday C-Turf team won the premiership for the second successive year, which is a great achievement, and on the juniors front the Under 13s A – Friday night, against extremely strong won the premiership, also back to back. Well done to all involved with these two sides. Club Financials Our club has again had a positive result for 2017-18, returning a profit of $1,890. Great credit goes to our Treasurer Steve Dimitriadis for his expertise, knowledge, experience, and vigilance in driving positive results, not only this season, but for almost a decade. Steve puts in a huge amount of time following-up council and other parties to ensure our club gets the best deal, and the often difficult task of outstanding memberships. Key highlights for me in terms of fundraising were: Past Players Day : Another great success financially. A big thanks to Colin Cass for driving this event, others on the organising committee, and those who helped on the day. In particular Chris Hatzoglou, Adam Ciach, Vic Grima, Sam Bargiamidis and Chris Hatzistavrou. Bunnings Sausage Sizzles : The club very successfully ran three sausage sizzles this season, netting a nice profit of around $3k for our efforts. Well done to Dina Stockwell, and Darren Sandars for taking over the organising reigns from Steve, and facilitating such positive results. Thanks to all sizzlers for volunteering on each of the days. Hosting of Grand Final at Ainsworth : Whilst I unfortunately wasn’t able to witness this in person, I have heard, and seen the sizeable profit made over the 4 days, which was in the vicinity of $4k. Thanks to all who contributed and drove this event. Notable mentions to Adam Ciach, Darren Sandars, and Chris Konstantinidis, and Matt Shawcross for their considerable contribution to this event. Scholarships: Thanks to Ben Ciach, Paul Muller, and Chris Hatzoglou for their contributions towards these very important scholarships. Club Operations Our club operates successfully through the contribution by many. I would particularly like to thank all the Executive Members for their tireless commitment and energy towards the best interests of the club. In particular, a big thankyou to the following key members: Chris Hatzoglou (Administrator); Nick Hatzoglou (Senior Vice- President); Ilario Candusio (Junior Vice-President); Steve Dimitriadis (Treasurer); Matthew Shawcross (Director Junior Program & Match Committee); Adam Ciach (Assistant Administrator). I would particularly like to thank a couple of people for their huge contributions this season. Firstly, thanks to Matthew Shawcross. Our club is very fortunate to have someone of the calibre of Matthew Shawcross overseeing and driving our junior program. Matt is an absolute star. Despite increasing work responsibilities, Matt continues to put in an enormous amount of time ensuring the program’s success. This was taken to another level this year by Matt taking on the B-Turf captaincy to oversee a youth focussed team which would have a significant number of junior players mixed in with a few experienced players. At the start of the season we were hoping 2-3 wins but the team exceeded all expectations and made the finals. A brilliant effort and something to build on for the coming seasons. Matt, you have been an absolute rock for me over my time as president, and so nice to have somebody that I could trust to always get the job done. Thanks so much. Secondly I would like to put out a massive thank you to Adam Ciach. Adam, you are the heart and soul of the Sunshine Heights Cricket Club. There is hardly an area of the club you don’t assist with, and you were always my first go to if I needed something done. This year you added the U11s coaching role, to all the other things you do. Well done and thanks. You absolutely deserved your Best Club Person award. As we know, food is very important at our club, and I would like to thank Chris Hatzoglou, Adam Ciach, Ilario Candusio, and Steve Dimitriadis for organising and delivering such wonderful and varied food options throughout the season. This is something all players (and non-players) really appreciate and look forward to, and something that sets our club apart from most clubs. Thank-you to Tim Mahoney (Senior Coach), and Luke Simpson (Assistant Coach) for organising and managing training, dealing with player issues, and helping our senior and junior sides have a successful year. You are both young men learning your way in what is a difficult job at local cricket club’s. You both bought into our plan of focussing on junior development rather than paid imports, and we are just starting to bear the fruits of this approach. A big thank you to Nick Hatzoglou for his ongoing supply of goods and merchandise to the club, and for his input, insights, and contacts from a Cricket Australia perspective. This is something that has been extremely beneficial to our club is fostering such a positive image in the community and media. Our ground and particularly our wicket was once again recognised as one of the better wickets in the league, which is testament to all the work and know how that Chris Konstantinidis and Adam Ciach put into it. Well done again. A special mention to Kerry Young, Don Luca, and Darren Sandars for their significant contribution across both junior and senior teams. My Personal Thank you They say that you really know who your friends are when things are down. This has absolutely been proven to me over recent weeks as I have been dealing with a serious health issue. The love and support I have received from so many across the club has been overwhelming and completely blown away. It has just reinforced to me the benefits of being part of such a great club like the Sunshine Heights Cricket Club. I have been very fortunate to have met and developed many great friendships through the club that I hope will be lifelong. I would particularly like to thank Chris Hatzoglou, and Ilario Candusio for their huge support of me, being a conduit to the club during my recent health battles, but also over the past year’s providing me so much mentoring and support. I would have been lost without you both. Given my current health situation, and ongoing treatment it is only appropriate that I stand down as President at the upcoming AGM. Executive members of the Club are aware of my intentions and have plans in place to move forward in 2018-19. This will present opportunities for a new group of volunteers to take more prominent roles in the club, which is absolutely crucial to ensure the long term success of the club. It has been an absolute honour and privilege to the President of the Sunshine Heights Cricket Club over the past three years, and once my health is back on track I look forward to continue contributing to the club in the best way I can. It is a truly great club and something to be part of. Good luck and good health to all. Paul Stockwell Administrators Report – Chris Hatzoglou In my third and final year as Administrator, I would like to acknowledge that the role has been a shared effort across the Club. In particular, I’d like to acknowledge our President Paul Stockwell, whose hands on approach has continued and mostly taken on tasks that previous Administrators would have undertaken. Consequently, there has been a reduced level of input from the Club’s Administrator. With Paul’s health issues towards the end of the season, the Club Committee has worked together to meet our obligations to our members, the association and other stakeholders. There are a number of significant contributions from a few key people, including our Treasurer Steve Dimitriadis who provided broad support across areas that are not normally handled by a Club Treasurer. For many years, we have had a very experienced and capable Executive Committee (Paul Stockwell, Nick Hatzoglou, Ilario Candusio, Steve Dimitriadis, Matthew Shawcross and Adam Ciach).

  • CBI's REPORT on CRICKET MATCH FIXING and RELATED
CBI‟s REPORT ON CRICKET MATCH FIXING AND RELATED MALPRACTICES http://cbi.nic.in/match1.htm SECTION-I GENERAL (a) GENESIS: In response to the request from Ministry of Sports regarding an inquiry into match fixing and related malpractices in Indian Cricket, vide DO No. F-23-8/2000-SP.III from Shri N.N. Khanna, Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports, CBI registered a Preliminary Enquiry No. 2/S/2000 on 2.5.2000. The scope of the PE is broadly limited to the letter of Shri N.N. Khanna in which there is a general mention of various allegations as they had appeared in the media as well as issues raised during a debate in both the Houses of Parliament. The Ministry‟s letter further requests the CBI to collect and evaluate various news-items and information published in both the print and electronic media and conduct a comprehensive enquiry into the allegations of match fixing and related malpractices connected with the game of cricket. (b) PARAMETERS: After registering the PE, CBI undertook an exercise to fix certain parameters, since the enquiry was open-ended without setting for itself any specific time-frame for which the probe was to be conducted or specific allegations or names which had to be looked into or specific areas which had to be enquired into. In this connection it was decided that first of all a broad enquiry was to be made to ascertain whether match fixing and other malpractices connected with the game of cricket existed. Accordingly, the following corner-stones were fixed as primary focal points of this enquiry: (1) to identify the betting syndicates operating in India and examine their activities; (2) to unravel the linkages of cricket players or their intermediaries with these syndicates and their roles in the alleged malpractices; and (3) to examine the role and functions of BCCI so as to evaluate whether it could have prevented the alleged malpractices.

  • Metaphors We Play By: Analyzing Sports News Ajay Sharma, Department of English, MMM (PG) College, Modinagar, Ghaziabad,UP Email: [email protected]
1 The Vedic Path : Vol.no. XCIV(no.2) Apr-Jun 2019 Metaphors We Play By: Analyzing Sports News Ajay Sharma, Department of English, MMM (PG) College, Modinagar, Ghaziabad,UP Email: [email protected] Metaphor has been the subject of study since Greek period where it was studied in the discipline of Rhetoric. Rhetoric is an art that taught people how to persuade others to one’s point of view by the use of rhetorical devices like metaphor. Since Rhetoric is not concerned with search of truth, as philosopher like Plato understood it, it became suspect in the eyes of crusaders of philosophic truth. Because metaphor in Rhetoric occupies certral place, it had to face the ire of such Greek philosophers as Plato. The Greek philosophers found this master trope of Rhetoric nothing but an external ornament of language that hides more than reveals the truth. However, Aristotle in his Peotics finds metaphor a sign of certain type of genius.”It is the one thing that cannot be learnt from other, and it is also a sign of genius, since good metaphor implies an intuitive perception of the similarity in dissimilar” (Aristotle 71). The discussion in Poetics makes it clear that metaphor for Aristotle is integral to poetry rather than to logic. “By doing so, he makes it clear that he does not regard metaphor as integral to language’s functioning; rather it is a kind of decoration or ornament.” (Punter 12) Metaphor in this sense is an addition to the normal language which in other words means literal language.
