The world’s first
The world’s first NPP 1954 – the world’s first nuclear power plant in Ob- ninsk started power generation; the plant operated for 48 years and paved the way to peaceful uses of atomic energy. The world’s first nuclear icebreaker 1957 – the world’s first surface ship with a nuclear power installation was launched to support naviga- tion in the cold Arctic seas. At present, all ten nucle- ar-propelled icebreakers operating worldwide have been designed in Russia. The world’s first fast neutron reactor Russia is the world’s acknowledged leader in fast neutron reactor development and the only country in the world that commercially operates a large power fast neutron reactor BN-600 (Beloyarsk NPP). The world’s first floating NPP 2007 – the keel was laid of the world’s first floating nuclear co-generation plant Akademik Lomonosov (FNPP). Its power capacity will be 70 MW. FNPPs can be operated without refueling for 12 years, based near any coast and used for both electricity and heat generation and seawater desalination.

Safety policy
One of the holding’s top priorities is the compliance with international and Russian nuclear and radiation safety guidelines by all affiliated companies of Atomenergo- prom. Longstanding analysis of data and absence of radiation incidents have con- firmed stable and reliable operations.
he automated radiation monitoring system (ARMS) is in use at the Russian nuclear industry enterprises. TThe ARMS data on the radiation situation at nuclear facilities of Russia is available in real time on the Internet- portal www.russianatom.ru. Any user can view the current radiation background near the selected facility, and ARMS data history over any pe- riod of time expressed in μR/h or μSv/h. The information is refreshed in real time mode.

Environmental policy
Main objectives of the policy being implemented by the holding in the area of environmental management are reasonable and mindful use of natural resources and nuclear materials, improvement of the environmental situation and preserva- tion of nature.
ll Atomenergoprom’s companies manufacture prod- ucts which meet most recent environmental require- Aments. The companies have set up laboratories for environmental monitoring. The obtained data is subject to systematic analysis. NPPs, which are operated and built by Atomenergoprom, reliably supply energy to consumers while producing no adverse impacts on the climate. Today, governments all over the world are paying special attention to the reduction of carbon diox-
ide (CO2) emissions and combating the of green- house effect. In terms of ecology, nuclear power is much cleaner than conventional sources; it
doesn’t burn oxygen and releases no CO2 into the atmosphere.
The use of NPPs allows reducing CO2 emissions by 2.4 Gt on f global basis

ustainable feed supplies are the prerequisite of suc- cessful development of the Russian nuclear indus- Stry. Over many years the Russian nuclear industry enterprises have accumulated a vast experience in uranium exploration and mining. The mining is carried out using dif- ferent techniques, including the most environment-friendly, i.e. in-situ underground leaching. Uranium mining enter- prises are consolidated within Uranium Holding ARMZ (JSC Atomredmetzoloto). the world’s top second in subsoil uranium resources the world’s top fifth among the uranium miners in uranium mining output
At present, the company mines uranium in Russia and Ka- zakhstan. It plans to increase uranium output at existing fa- cilities, launch commercial operation of facilities currently under construction, continue to develop potential uranium deposits and get involved in promising projects in other countries, such as Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Armenia, Canada, Namibia, and Mongolia. Atomenergoprom’s goal is to increase uranium mining out- put six fold - up to 20,000 tons per year - and become the leader in uranium mining by 2024.

Uranium enrichment
t present, Russia has the most advanced uranium enrichment technologies in the world. The uranium Aenrichment and conversion complex (JSC United Company «Enrichment and Conversion Complex») com- prises four enrichment combines, of which the Urals Elec- trochemical Combine (UECC) is the world’s largest. Rus- sian uranium enrichment services are exported by JSC Techsnabexport, the world largest supplier of nuclear fuel cycle products and services. Russian enrichment enterprises utilize centrifuge-based technologies – the most advanced technologies at the present time. This allows Atomenergoprom to retain its leading position in the world market.

3Fast neutron reactor At present, Russia is the world’s acknowledged leader in fast neutron re- actor development and the only country in the world that commercially operates a large power fast neutron reactor BN-600 (Beloyarsk NPP). The next stage of the fast neutron reactor technology development is BN-800 reactor which is being constructed as the 4-th reactor unit at Beloyarsk nuclear power plant and will have a capacity of 880 MWe. Small nuclear power Atomenergoprom’s companies are developing modular VBER-300 reactors for nuclear power plants of medium capacity, as well as a number of small power reactors in the power range of 1 to 40 MW designed for reliable heat and electricity supply of consumers in re- mote areas where there are no centralized grids and it is expensive to bring fuel from far away sources.
TVS
The implementation of this project will allow Atomenergoprom to strengthen its positions in the market of fuel for reactors of western designs. FNPP
Small power floating nuclear co-generation plant. According to the project, in regions where it is uneconomical to build electricity trans- mission lines or ship fossil fuels to, the construction and operation of a FNPP will be more cost-effective than the construction and op- eration of ground-based power plants. A FNPP consists of the flush- deck non-self-propelled vessel with two 35-megawatt reactors. The plant operating life is 36 years or 3 cycles of 12 years each.
