BUT SERVITE'S OUTSTANDING PASSER RIDDLED JACKRABBITS SECONDARY FOR 218 PASSING YARDS, AS BEUERLEIN COMPLETED lU OF 2lt AERIALS, ONE GOOD FOR A TOUCHDOWN. SMITH HEADS A DIVISION II ALL-STAR TEAM COMPOSED OF PLAYERS REPRESENTING THE SOUTHERN, COASTAL AND NORTHWESTERN CONFERENCES. THE ATHLETIC FOUNDATION BOARD'S CHOICE FOR MVP HONORS WAS MADE SIMPLE BY TWO GLARING FACTS. FIRST, SMITH'S STAGGERING STATISTICS OVER THE *82 SEASON AND SECOND HIS TITLE- WINNING PERFORMANCE AGAINST ESPERANZA. IN THE TITLE TIFF, MIKE COMPLETED 21 OF 30 AERIALS FOR 329 YARDS AND FOUR TOUCHDOWNS IN THE CONQUERORS CONQUEST CF THE AZTECS, 31-lie. LOS ALTOS COMPLETED A PERFECT lU-0 SEASON, WHILE ESPERANZA FINISHED 12-2. SMITH IS CREDITED WITH BREAKING THE SINGLE-SEASON YARDAGE MARK WITH 3,h37 YARDS AND UO TOUCHDOWNS OVER lH GAMES. MENLO SCHOOL QB JOHN PAYE (NORTHERN CALIFORNIA MVP), HOWEVER, AISO LAYS CLAIM TO SEVERAL NEW STATE AERIAL RECORDS INCLUDING MOST PASSING YARDS (3,U65). II PLAYERS ON JANUARY 29TH MemBers of the Division II first team, Both offense and defense, will Be honored at the U6th annual All-Southern California Board of FootBall Awards Program to Be held in the First Interstate Bank Building on Saturday morning, Jan. 29 at 10:30 a.m. Players, their coaches, high school administrators and collegiate coaches and players will receive invitations to the annual ceremonies, with championship prep coaches also be honored. Players of the Year in the various divisions, including Mike Smith, will Be recipients of the Athletic Foundation's traditional bronze medallion award. Presentation ceremonies will be followed by a luncheon in the Bank headquarters. In Coastal Conference action, West Torrance won Its first Southern Section footBall title, 3i>-21, over Santa Monica's Vikings capping a perfect lit-0 season. West Beat Santa Monica for the Bay League crown, administering the Vikings only two losses during 1982. VJest defeated San Marcos (U8-10), Muir (2U-0) and Oxnard (17-8) Before the title decider. VerBum Dei took the Northwestern Conference crown 7-0 over Monrovia and made it a perfect 13-0 season in the doing. It was the Eagles second straight CIF title, as they took the Desert Mountain Conference crown last year. It was the 25th consecutive vic tory for VerBum Dei, 13 of which have been shutouts, six this year. VerBum Dei defeated Beverly Hills (27-7), RIghetti (35-lU) and St. Bernard (28-0) prior to Beating Monrovia.
