This program has been designed for Atlanta International School students studying German with careful guidance from AIS faculty, Ms. Grosch and Ms. Robbiani. DAY 1 - DEPARTURE (ATL → TXL) (SATURDAY, 10/03 2020) ​ ​ ​ ​ Afternoon: Meet at Airport

DAY 2 - SUNDAY, 10/04 2020 (BERLIN - ) ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Morning: Arrive in Berlin / Breakfast

Travel to Wolgast (by bus or train pending group size) Located about 2.5 hours (by bus) or 3 hours (train) north of Berlin, the group will travel here shortly after arriving in Berlin for the first several days of the program. Wolgast, located in the district of Vorpommern- in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany will be our home for the next several days. With a total population under 15,000 it’s the perfect location to be immersed and authentically discover Germany!

Afternoon: Lunch, Check-in + Welcome & Orientation Learn more about the hostel where we will be staying ​here and ​here - it was just nominated for the 2019 German Tourism Prize!

Explore the local town of W​ olgast The cozy and historic small coastal town lends itself for a stroll where we will be able to explore the sleepy alleys along the water, the majestic gothic and St. Petri church, the historic city hall from the beginning of the 18th century, as well as the counterpoise bridge, a technical novelty that connects the mainland to the island of which is also known as the sunniest spot in all of Germany.

Boat tour to the city of Peenemünde a small, rustic boat will take us along the scenic stream to the Harbor of Peenemünde where we will: - Visit Physical exhibition P​ hänomenta - Visit the original invention spots of the space rocket - Visit Russian submarine

Afternoon: Lunch

Kayak tour and/or horseback riding on the beach

Creative activity / project with local students Students will have the opportunity to visit the local Wolgast High School - das Philipp Otto Runge Gymnasium - attend classes, meet local students, and make new friends!

DAY 4 - TUESDAY, 10/06 2020 (WOLGAST) ​ ​ ​ ​ Morning: Breakfast

All day: Visit and explore ​ Stralsund is a beautiful port city on the coast of the . Founded in 1234, the city’s historic center has been established as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2002. - Ozeaneum - Historic city center - Workshop at the local g​ ame card print museum

Evening: Return to Wolgast for dinner

DAY 5 - WEDNESDAY, 10/07 2020 (WOLGAST - BERLIN) ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Morning: Breakfast

Basket Weaving workshop A local artist will open up her studio and guide the students in the techniques of basket weaving. This is a great way for students to engage in the target language, engage with local culture, and craft a souvenir from the Baltic Sea coast.

Afternoon: Lunch

Usedom Project Students will have the opportunity to participate in the local beach clean-up service project led by young leaders and university students. Usedom is not only the Island with the longest beachline in Germany; it’s beach can also be described as one of the most beautiful in the country, and surely as one of the cleanest. The young people of Usedom want to send a global message. Enough! The Oceans can’t handle any more trash!

Evening: Return to Berlin, Check-in to hotel

DAY 6 - THURSDAY, 10/08 2020 (BERLIN) ​ ​ ​ ​ Morning: Breakfast at Hotel

All day: Explore Berlin (exact details to be determined pending group size, student interest, and availability. A revised itinerary will be shared in Winter/early Spring 2020). Some initial ideas and options include: ● Graffiti tour with Graffiti Art Workshop ● Go up to the top of the TV tower on the Alexanderplatz ● Walk from Alexanderplatz down the historic Friedrichstraße - The group will have an opportunity to see the Historic Humboldt University, Berlin Dome / Cathedral and old national Gallery, Brandenburg Gate, and Holocaust memorial. ● Students can stop to taste traditional German cuisine, ​such as Bratwurst and Currywurst. ● A scavenger hunt at Gendarmenmarkt - ​where students will use the target language. ● Berlin Wall memorial program for schools - ​Overview tour and activity to trace the wall with cameras.

Program Fee: As an educational initiative we work tirelessly to keep programs affordable for students and their families. The per participant program fee for AIS’ Germany Immersion program is as follows:

15-20 students $1,600* + international airfare (2 faculty chaperones from AIS)

21-22 students $1,600* + international airfare (3 faculty chaperones from AIS)

*With our program fee there are no surprises – we promise. Once the program is confirmed the Program Fee will not change and it includes just about everything (see below).

Note on international airfare (USA-GERMANY): EdOdyssey will negotiate the best possible group flight and the cost of international airfare will be billed in addition to the Program Fee. Currently, round-trip airfare is estimated to be about $650 USD per person. The cost of faculty chaperone’s airfare will be divided between students and added to airfare.

Money Matters: We value education, at all costs. We work tirelessly to keep programs affordable for students and their families, but know that does not mean accessible for everyone. To help, EdOdyssey offers: ● Financial Aid. ​For ​every family with demonstrated financial need, guaranteed financial aid is available. ● Scholarships. ​Each year EdOdyssey offers a number of merit-based scholarships to students from $50 - $300. ● Fundraising Tips. ​EdOdyssey posts fundraising tips and resources such as a form letter to help support students’ own fundraising. We also have a new online platform that allows donations to be credited directly to students. ● Payment Schedule. ​A deposit is due will be due in Spring 2020, the balance is divided over multiple payments before departure.
