    12/8/2018 Home TamilNadu Map Sivagangai District Profile Print SIVAGANGAI DISTRICT PROFILE • Sivaganga district is bounded by Pudukkottai district in the Northeast, Ramanathapuram district in the East, Virudhunagar district in the Southwest, and Madurai in the West. • The District is located between 09º 30'N to 10º 25'N Latitude, and 78º 07'E to 79º 01’E Longitude and has an areal extent of 4143 sq.km. • There are 12 Blocks, 445 Villages and 3352 Habitations in the District. Physiography and Drainage: • The northern part of the District is drained by the rivers Pambar, Manimuttar and Sarugani rivers and the southern part is drained by Vaigai River. • The northern, western part of the district comprising of Tiruppathur taluk is a high ground studded will hillocks and residual hills. • The stretch trending north east to south west extending from Puduvayal to Manamadurai is an upland.     Efforts of CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute to mitigate COVID-19 CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CECRI), a premier research establishment under the aegis of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi, focussing on a gamut of problems covering all facets of electrochemical science and technology: viz., Corrosion Science and Engineering, Electrochemical Power Sources, Electrochemical Materials Science, Electro-organic and Electro-inorganic Chemicals, Electrodics and Electrocatalysis, Electro-metallurgy, Electro Plating and Metal Finishing Technology. CSIR- CECRI's activities are directed towards the development of new and improved products and process as well as innovations in electrochemical science and technology. CSIR-CECRI runs several projects in collaboration with laboratories and private companies within and outside India. CSIR-CECRI assists the Indian Industry by conducting surveys and undertaking consultancy projects. As part of its human resource development programme, CECRI runs a four-year B.Tech. course in Chemical & Electrochemical Engineering apart from encouraging Ph.D. scholars for their research under the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR). Further, CSIR-CECRI is alive to societal obligations by way of offering ‘skill development' training and Jigyasa programs for the benefit of indian youth. Under the present COVID-19 pandemic situations, in line with CSIR’s special efforts, CSIR- CECRI has come out with helping hands to reach out the society through scientific service in mitigating COVID-19. As a part of CSIR’s CSG, quick response teams were formed, wherein CSIR-CECRI finds a place under Hospital assisting Devices and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). With regard to PPE, CSIR-CECRI prepared series of lab made PPEs that includes Hand sanitizer solutions, as per the WHO recommendations (Iso-propanol 75%, Glycerol 1.45%, Hydrogen peroxide 0.125% plus lemongrass oil for fragrance), Hand wash solutions using coconut oil and Sodium hypochlorite based disinfectant solutions.

About 63% of available groundwater resources are now being used. However, the development is not uniform all over the State, and in certain districts of Tamil Nadu, intensive groundwater development had led to declining water levels, increasing trend of Over Exploited and Critical Firkas, saline water intrusion, etc. ADMINISTRATIVE SET UP The geographical extent of Sivagangai District is 4, 18,900 hectares or 4,189 sq.km. Accounting for 3.22% of the geographical area of Tamilnadu State. The district has well laidout roads and railway lines connecting all major towns within and outside the State for administrative purpose. For administrative purpose , the district has been divided into 6 Taluks, 12 Blocks and 38 Firkas.
