The ELCIRA Project (Europe Lan America Collaborave e-Infrastructure for Research Acvies) aimed to coordinate a series of collaboraon tools and services developed in Europe and Lan America in order to provide an interoperability framework that facilitates the work of European-Lan American research teams and to foster collaboraon in joint research projects. ELCIRA Project

Having set out to establish eduroam in at least two Lan American countries, ELCIRA has far outstripped expectaons through the deployment of eduroam in six Lan American countries (Argenna, Chile, , , , and ). ELCIRA Project

• ELCIRA supported the ongoing expansion of eduroam in , where Porto Alegre has become the first eduroam city on the connent. • The objecve of supporng the creaon of identy federaons in two countries was not only met but doubled with operaonal identy federaons having been established in Argenna (MATE), Chile (COFRe), Colombia (COLFIRE) and Ecuador (MiNGA). Of these, the Chilean federaon is a member of eduGAIN, alongside the Brazilian identy federaon. • ELCIRA has also established gatekeepers for RedCLARA and the Costa Rican and Colombian NRENs. With Brazil and Mexico also integrated with the RedCLARA gatekeeper which is in turn integrated with eduCONF, users of videoconferencing facilies behind the RedCLARA gatekeeper can now dial terminals behind eduCONF in Europe, and vice versa. ELCIRA Project

An addional aim of ELCIRA was to improve collaboraon for Europe- Lan American research communies. This has been done through the creaon of a virtual federated plaorm, known as Colaboratorio V1.0. The plaorm makes tools and services delivered by Lan American and European NRENs available to end users in a single locaon and facilitates collaboraon in the following ways: • Webconferencing through the VC Espresso tool. • Large file transfer through the eNVIO service, based on FileSender, and provided by GARR. • The reservaon of mul-point H.323 videoconferencing facilies behind SIVIC, RedCLARA’s equivalent of eduCONF • Parcipaon in discussions and events organised by RedCLARA user groups • A search facility for documents produced by RedCLARA and the user groups supported by RedCLARA. • A search facility for funding opportunies, project partners and collaboraon opportunies. The MAGIC Project seeks to establish a set of agreements for Europe, Lan America and other parcipang World Regions, aiming at consolidang and compleng the building blocks of middleware necessary for the establishment of a marketplace of services and real-me applicaons for internaonal and inter-connental research groups which facilitates mobility and the work of global science communies. www.redclara.net
