In Western Odisha women played a vital role in the freedom movement. The notable women leaders who stand in the fore front during the national movement were Jambobati Devi (wife of famous freedom fighter Bhagirathi Pattanaik), Prabhabati Devi (daughter of Dhanpati Dash of Bargarh), Parvati Giri (The Mother Teresa of Western Odisha), Gurubari Meher (a valiant women freedom fighter of Sonepur), Saraswati Mirdha, Rukmini devi Lath (the wife of Sri Prahallad Rai Lath of Sambalpur), Gandharvi Devi (daughter-in-law of Fakira Behera), Iia Meher (the wife of Kunja Bihari of Tukurla), Shreeyabati Devi (wife of senior freedom fighter Ghanashyam Panigrahi of Manpur, Bhaden) and many more. These women freedom fighters of western Odisha made momentous contribution to the freedom struggle by demonstrating their indomitable courage and unflinching patriotism. One of the most prominent among these freedom fighters of western odisha was Jambubati Devi.

The district continues to depict a picture of chronic under development. The tribal and scheduled caste population remains disadvantaged social group in the district, In this district Gaisilat Block Map absolute poverty, food insecurity and malnutrition are fundamental form of deprivation in which seasonal migration of laborers takes place. About 69.9 percent of the rural families in Bargarh are below the poverty line; of this 41.13 percent are marginal farmers, 22.68 percent small farmers and 25.44 percent agricultural laborers. Bargarh district of Odisha is prone to frequent droughts which accentuate the poverty of the masses and forces the poor for migration. In our survey area in 19 Grampanchyats of Gaisilat Block of Bargarh District where DEBADATTA CLUB (DC) has been undertaken the survey and observed that in many villages of these western Orissa districts almost half of the families migrate out bag and baggage during drought years. Only old and infirm people under compulsion live in the village. All able-bodied males and females including small children move out to eke out their living either as contract workers in the brick kiln units or as independent wage workers/self-employed workers of the urban informal sector economy in relatively developed regions of the state and outside the state.

The study seeks to endeavour the quality of life in rural areas of developed district of Khordha and backward district of Nabarangpur. It also focuses to show spatial variation block-wise with the help of qualitative & quantitative assessment comprising of all aspects of quality of life. The assessment is based on primary data collected from questionnaire survey as well as secondary data taken from the district census handbook of Khordha and Article Original Nabarangpur, 2011. For proper examining purpose Z – Score technique is used and cartographical representation is done through ArcGIS (10.4) in order to show the level of availability of amenities within the districts. On the basis of above mentioned assessment, quality of life of the different blocks of the districts reveals that blocks namely; Banapur, Bolagad in Khordha district and Jharigan, Kosagumuda in Nabarangpur district indicate the region of high level of quality of life.
