NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts 2006TSA0018-000597 May 16, 2006 TV PRODUCTIONS DOUBLE OVER LAST MAY VANCOUVER – The number of television productions currently underway in B.C. is double that of last year, Tourism, Sport and the Arts Minister Olga Ilich announced today. Currently, there are 13 series and five movies-of-the-week in production. In May 2005, six series, one mini-series, one pilot and one movie-of-the-week were in production. “Globally, we are seeing an increased interest in dramatic television series – and today’s numbers give us reason to be optimistic that 2006 will be a strong year for us as well,” said Ilich. “This is testament to our skilled crews, world-class facilities and innovative measures taken by government and industry to ensure B.C. remains competitive.” “Our creative economy is only as strong as the talent pool within it,” said Ilich. “The film and television industry is a very fluid sector and B.C.’s creative pool is experienced and nimble enough to adjust to new conditions and seize new opportunities.” B.C.’s film and television industry experienced a major turnaround in 2005, reaching $1.233 billion, up from $801 million in 2004. Television production in 2005 included 31 television series, 37 movies-of-the-week, 15 television pilots and five mini-series. Television series currently shooting in B.C. include: Stargate SG-1, Battlestar Galactica, The 440, Masters of Horror and Robson Arms. New series this year include: Blade, Eureka, Kyle XY, Psych, Saved and Three Moons Over Milford. -
February 26, 2021 Amazon Warehouse Workers In
February 26, 2021 Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer, Alabama are voting to form a union with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU). We are the writers of feature films and television series. All of our work is done under union contracts whether it appears on Amazon Prime, a different streaming service, or a television network. Unions protect workers with essential rights and benefits. Most importantly, a union gives employees a seat at the table to negotiate fair pay, scheduling and more workplace policies. Deadline Amazon accepts unions for entertainment workers, and we believe warehouse workers deserve the same respect in the workplace. We strongly urge all Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer to VOTE UNION YES. MULTICULTURALISM AND ALIENATION IN CONTEMPORARY JAPANESE SOCIETY AS SEEN IN THE FILMS OF TAKASHI MIIKE Steven A. Balsomico A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS August 2006 Committee: Ronald E. Shields, Advisor Walter Grunden ii ABSTRACT Ronald E. Shields, Advisor Through his films, Takashi Miike reminds audiences of the diverse populations within Japan. He criticizes elements of the Japanese sociological structures that alienate minorities and outcasts. Through the socialization process, Japanese youth learn the importance of “fitting in” and attending to the needs of the group. Clear distinctions of who are “inside” and “outside” are made early on and that which is “outside” is characterized as outcast and forbidden. In three of his films, "Blues Harp," "Dead or Alive," and "Deadly Outlaw: Rekka," Miike includes individuals who have been situated as outsiders. In "Blues Harp," Chuji, due to his obvious heritage, cannot find a place in society, and thus exists on the fringes. In "Dead or Alive," Ryuichi has felt that the country in which he lives has placed him in a disadvantaged status: therefore, he must strike out on his own, attempting to achieve happiness through criminal means. In "Deadly Outlaw: Rekka," Kunisada, an outsider by blood and incarceration, cannot relate to his peers in the world. As a result, he lashes out against the world in violence, becoming an individual who is portrayed as a wild beast. When these outsiders attempt to form their own groups, they often face eventual failure. -

Lucifer Show Parents Guide
Lucifer show parents guide Continue #Lucifer season 5, episode 4 Review: It never ends well for the chicken Chloe has a big bomb dropped on her and it looks like she's not done with it yet. In Lucifer Season 5, episode 4, Trixie appears in Lucifer without her mother to play. First, yay for more trixie content. Trixie: Problems with adults. I'm not interested. Also, who cares where my mother is? Lucifer: Me for one. Trixie: it's a night game, and Trixie's in the house. Trying to get things back the way things were, Lucifer had a night of snacks and monopoly. Since it was just the two of them, Trixie persuaded Lucifer to tell her the story behind his ring. This episode was a funny, black-and-white, noir detective story. Lucifer tells her the true story of the ring, with several different faces. The story begins in 1946 at the Garden Club in 1946, where Lilith (by Lily Rose) is known as the best chante on the market. The labyrinth is a bubbling image of the mother of demons. We'il love every episode where we hear Leslie-Anne Brandt. Lucifer apparently owes Lilith a favor, so she cashes in by heeding his help finding her stolen ring. People believe that the ring gives immortality without Lilith knowing, just keep it for sentimentality from his days with Adam in the garden. Lucifer wasn't very keen to help at first. Since when did the devil solve the crime? The devil, we solve crimes. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. -

‘LIES BETWEEN FRIENDS’ CAST BIOS GABRIELLE ANWAR (Joss) – Born in Berkshire, England, the endearing and accomplished Gabrielle Anwar has more than 45 film and television performances to her credit in both Europe and the United States, including her breakout film, “Scent of a Woman,” where she was whisked off her feet into an acclaimed tango with Al Pacino. Anwar has enthralled in a vast array of diverse characters from the blind diving horse circus performer in Disney’s biopic “Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken” to the risqué royal in Showtime’s “The Tudors” to the supercilious counterpart to Noah Wyle in TNT’s “The Librarian II.” She also played the fatal object of desire in “Things To Do In Denver When You’re Dead,” the regal Queen Anne in “The Three Musketeers,” the party girl in BBC’s adaptation of Mortimer’s “Summer’s Lease” and the coquette pursuing Dermott Mulroney and Hope Davis in the independent feature “Happy Together.” Currently, Anwar stars as Fiona in the USA Network original series “Burn Notice.” With three children, a canine, a feline, an art studio, a yoga fanatic, a garden and a slew of literature in the works, Anwar lacks any free time. # # # CRAIG SHEFFER (Sheriff Zach Watts) – After studying theatre at East Stroudsburg University, Craig Sheffer immediately relocated to New York to pursue a career in acting. Early auditions landed him a role in the off-Broadway play Punchy, and he soon found himself co- starring in the award-winning Broadway production Torch Song Trilogy. In less than a year, producers spotted his work on Broadway and cast him in his feature-film debut opposite Emilio Estevez in “That Was Then, This Is Now.” Sheffer later landed starring roles in the John Hughes comedy “Some Kind of Wonderful” and the father/son drama “Split Decisions,” with Gene Hackman. -
How Twin Peaks Changed the Face of Contemporary Television
“That Show You Like Might Be Coming Back in Style” 44 DOI: 10.1515/abcsj-2015-0003 “That Show You Like Might Be Coming Back in Style”: How Twin Peaks Changed the Face of Contemporary Television RALUCA MOLDOVAN Babeş-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca Abstract The present study revisits one of American television’s most famous and influential shows, Twin Peaks, which ran on ABC between 1990 and 1991. Its unique visual style, its haunting music, the idiosyncratic characters and the mix of mythical and supernatural elements made it the most talked-about TV series of the 1990s and generated numerous parodies and imitations. Twin Peaks was the brainchild of America’s probably least mainstream director, David Lynch, and Mark Frost, who was known to television audiences as one of the scriptwriters of the highly popular detective series Hill Street Blues. When Twin Peaks ended in 1991, the show’s severely diminished audience were left with one of most puzzling cliffhangers ever seen on television, but the announcement made by Lynch and Frost in October 2014, that the show would return with nine fresh episodes premiering on Showtime in 2016, quickly went viral and revived interest in Twin Peaks’ distinctive world. In what follows, I intend to discuss the reasons why Twin Peaks was considered a highly original work, well ahead of its time, and how much the show was indebted to the legacy of classic American film noir; finally, I advance a few speculations about the possible plotlines the series might explore upon its return to the small screen. Keywords: Twin Peaks, television series, film noir, David Lynch Introduction: the Lynchian universe In October 2014, director David Lynch and scriptwriter Mark Frost announced that Twin Peaks, the cult TV series they had created in 1990, would be returning to primetime television for a limited nine episode run 45 “That Show You Like Might Be Coming Back in Style” broadcast by the cable channel Showtime in 2016. -

Mulholland Drive: An Intertextual Reading Ebrahim Barzegar, University of Gilan, [email protected] Volume 4.1 (2014) | ISSN 2158-8724 (online) | DOI 10.5195/cinej.2014.114 | http://cinej.pitt.edu Abstract This article examines David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive from Kristeva’s concept of intertextuality. To achieve this aim, this study provides a close reading of the selected film so as to trace and illustrate the polyphonic network of references, citations, quotations and intertexts of Mulholland Drive to the significant already-made films such as Sunset Boulevard, The Wizard of Oz, and Persona. This journal is published by the University Library System of the University of Pittsburgh as part of its D-Scribe Digital Publishing Program and is cosponsored by the University of Pittsburgh Press. Mulholland Drive: An Intertextual Reading Ebrahim Barzegar The origin of intertextuality lies in the theories and philosophies of the key figure of Russian Formalist School Mikhail Bakhtin whose works were unknown to literary critics due to the political censorship and social oppression of his time. Bakhtin found a new alternative to Saussaurian theory of language by stressing the overlooked fact of his language theory, the social aspect. For Bakhtin, the social situation of language users plays a crucial part in shaping the parole of the given language system; in better words, “language exists in social situations between actual speakers” (Allen, 2003, p.80). In Marxism and Philosophy of Language Bakhtin emphasized that ignoring the sociological perspective of language led to ‘abstract objectivism’ as Saussure did. -
