Wisconsin’s large freshmen class appear to be coming into their own on the offensive end of the ice. Boston University leads with a 3.62 points-per-game scoring average. Three-Time WCHA Regular-Season Champions UW has two games of over 30 shots in its last four contests after having two in its (MacNaughton Cup) fi rst 20 contests and none in the fi rst 14 games. 1977, 1990, 2000 UW, which had scored just two fi rst-period goals through its fi rst 18 games, has eight 12-Time WCHA Playoff Champions fi rst-period goals over its last six contests. Besse has two goals and three assists for fi ve points in his current streak. Besse, who has points in seven of his last eight outings, leads the Badgers with nine 23 Badger Olympians goals and 18 points in 24 games this season. Freshman forward Cameron Hughes (Edmonton, Alberta) tallied his fi rst career goal in the third period on Saturday, Jan. 31 against Minnesota.
