  • Moyle Publishes Interconnector Capacity Statement
Moyle Interconnector Limited Interconnector Capacity Calculation September 2011 Executive Summary Moyle Interconnector Limited (“MIL”) owns and operates the submarine cables between converter stations at Ballycronan More in Islandmagee, County Antrim and Auchencrosh in Ayrshire that link the electricity transmission systems of Northern Ireland and Scotland. The cable and key components of the link have an engineering capacity of 500MW in each direction. However, limits applied for system security reasons by the Transmission System Operators (“TSOs”) at either end of the link mean that, at present, the full Moyle Interconnector engineering capacity cannot be made available to electricity traders for flows between the Betta and SEM markets. The current capacity available to interconnector users is shown in the following table.. Direction Month Capacity available to Capacity limit set by: interconnector users West to East May - August 287 MW NG/ GB System September - April 295 MW SONI/ NI System East to West April - October 410 MW SONI/ NI System November - March 450 MW NG/ GB System MIL, in conjunction with National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET), Scottish Power Transmission (SPT) 1, the System Operator for Northern Ireland (SONI) and NIE, the Northern Ireland transmission network owner , has prepared this statement to outline how available capacity on both the GB National Electricity Transmission System (“the GB system”) and the Northern Ireland Electricity Transmission System (“the NI system”) is assessed for the physical transfer of power between Northern Ireland and Scotland using the Moyle Interconnector 2. This is a requirement of Article 15(2) of Regulation EC 714/2009 on conditions for access to the network for cross-border exchanges in electricity which states that “a general scheme for the calculation of total transfer capacity and the transmission reliability margin based on the electrical and physical features of the network” shall be published (subject to the approval of the regulatory authorities).

  • Recreation Guide
RECREATION GUIDE GO EXPLORE Permit No. 70217 Based upon the Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland Map with the permission of the controller of her Majesty’s Stationery Office © Crown Copyright 2007 A STRIKING VISUAL BOUNDARY The Belfast Hills make up the summits of the west and north of Belfast city. They form a striking visual boundary that sets them apart from the urban populace living in the valley below. The closeness to such a large population means the hills are becoming increasingly popular among people eager to access them for recreational activities. The public sites that are found across the hills certainly offer fantastic opportunities for organised and informal recreation. The Belfast Hills Partnership was formed in 2004 by a wide range of interest groups seeking to encourage better management of the hills in the face of illegal waste, degradation of landscape and unmanaged access. Our role in recreation is to work with our partners to improve facilities and promote sustainable use of the hills - sensitive to traditional ways of farming and land management in what is a truly outstanding environment. Over the coming years we will work in partnership with those who farm, manage or enjoy the hills to develop recreation in ways which will sustain all of these uses. 4 Belfast Hills • Introduction ACTIVITIES Walking 6 Cycling 10 Running 12 Geocaching 14 Orienteering 16 Other Activities 18 Access Code 20 Maps 21 Belfast Hills • Introduction 5 With well over half a million hikes taken every year, walking is the number one recreational activity in the Belfast Hills. A wide range of paths and routes are available - from a virtually flat 400 metres path at Carnmoney Hill pond, to the Divis Boundary route stretching almost seven miles (11km) across blanket bog and upland heath with elevations of 263m to 377m high.

NEPTUNE’S LEGACY An Exhibition of Paintings Inspired by Northern Ireland’s Coastline by Hector McDonnell Celebrating Fifty Years of Enterprise Neptune Celebrating fifty years of Enterprise Neptune A spectacular programme by The National Trust To preserve our Coastal lands In the Stableyard Theatre, Castle Ward The private view will be from 5.30 – 7.30pm on the 19th of July. It will be opened by David Lindsay, Lord Lieutenant of County Down. The exhibition will be open daily from 11am to 5pm from the 19th to the 29th of July 2015 In association with Hector McDonnell’s representatives, James Wray & Co NEPTUNE’S LEGACY By Hector McDonnell In the early 1960s my father was invited to go to London to be chairman of the English National Trust, largely because he had been so involved in coastal preservation here, and there was a wish to achieve something similar in England. The result was Enterprise Neptune. Its success has been enormous, and it was a matter of great pride to me that two beautiful coastline sites, the Golden Cap in Dorset and a farm at Murlough Bay in County Antrim, were purchased in his memory soon after his death. Fifty years have gone by since Enterprise Neptune’s inception. Its drive to conserve and protect so many unspoilt tracts of coastline for posterity is undoubtedly one of the National Trust’s greatest achievements. Lord and Lady Antrim at the Enterprise Neptune Ball, 1964 I can only say that it is an honour and a t is an enormous pleasure to put on this privilege for me to commemorate it in this exhibition for the National Trust.
