The in the United States is an immigrant Church with a long history of embracing diverse newcomers and providing assistance and pastoral care to immigrants, migrants, refugees, and people on the move. Our Church as responded to Christ’s call for us to “welcome the stranger among us,” for in this encounter with the immigrant, the migrant, and the refugee in our midst, we encounter Christ. The Saint Paschal Baylon Social Action Commission meets the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Kazel Room in the rectory. All are welcome. If you would like to receive our emails, please email [email protected]. Our next meeting is Wednesday, March 13th.

THE JOURNEY . . . A WAY TO DEEPEN YOUR EXPERIENCE OF JESUS The Spiritual Formation Committee of St Clare and St Paschal Baylon will be offering Part 3 of THE JOURNEY, beginning the week of March 4. This six-week program of sharing, prayer, and reflection is designed to help everyone –parishioners, family, friends and neighbors – grow in faith. THE JOURNEY brings us into contact with those who knew and encountered Jesus. Through videos and sharing, their experiences become real in our day . . . in our personal lives . . . in our relationships with God and others. Each participant will receive a book which contains faith sharing materials, consisting of prayer, scripture readings, reflections and faith sharing questions. You are asked to contribute $10.00, which covers the cost of the book; scholarships are available. Groups will meet once a week at different times during the day and in the evening, both at St. Clare and St. Paschal. Everyone is talking about a personal experience of Jesus . . . especially Francis. Come and see what it is all about. Registration forms, where you can choose the day and time you would like to meet are available in the business office or on the parish website, https//church.saintpaschal.com Please register by February 17 so we can order the books. YOUTH MINISTRY

“Let us love the Cross and let us remember that we are not alone in carrying it. God is helping us. And in God who is comforting us, as St. Paul says, we can do anything." — St. Gianna Molla

We are keeping very busy in the month of February! Our teens have participated in Eucharistic Adoration, helped at our annual Mother-Son Game Night, and are growing in friendship not only with one another, but with God! This week we are going to focus on how God is LOVE! How does God show His love for you? His signs and wonders are all around. The key is...are we paying attention to recognize it?

CLOWN/HELPING HANDS MINISTRY

Last Sunday’s Gospel told how Jesus embarked on the boat of the disciples to preach to them. After preaching, Jesus cast their nets in the water, even though the disciples told Jesus that they had not caught any fish. When the disciples pulled in their nets, they were overflowing with fish. Jesus told them not to be afraid. He said that some day they would be “catching” men and women. The powerful words here are not to be afraid. When I look back and think how our Helping Hands Ministry began with just a few members, no money, and no truck, we were a little afraid. Yet, we put our trust in God and said if Jesus wants us to launch this ministry, He will show us the way. After almost 20 years, we have a large, dedicated group of people, a generous parish that has helped us purchase three vans, clothing, food, and most importantly, offered prayers. Our work has inspired the news media to take notice and share information regarding the Catholic church reaching out to those in need. As news of our work spread, businesses and other churches have become involved. As we trust in Jesus, we know our needs will be met. For example, our Ministry chose to donate to the SPB Capital Campaign to improve the parking lot. That same week, we received a gift from the Lions Club for the same amount as we donated. So, like Jesus said, we should not be afraid to “catch” women and men. God bless and thank you! GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME. ALL THE TIME GOD IS GOOD.

FROM FATHER LANE, SSS, OUR 8TH PASTOR:

6th Sunday in Ordinary Time: Today we hear Luke’s version of the “beatitudes” proclaimed. They are in a different form, reminding us that if we fail to live out our Christian discipleship, “woe” will come upon us. We are called to live and bring blessedness to others to experience the reward that will be great in heaven. As we compare and contrast these “attitudes” of faithful Christian living, may we never cease to bring “blessedness” to others.

2020 Pastoral Plan Ad-hoc Committee: This past Wednesday, we had our first meeting to evaluate, review and begin the process for a new 5-year plan for our parish. I am so happy with the cross-section of parishioners who are coming forward to guide this process. You, too, will be part of the process soon, as we ask you to fill out a survey about the strengths of our parish and suggestions for improvements. If you do not want to wait for the survey, please do not hesitate to share your thoughts with Kelly, our Advancement Director [email protected] or me. Keep our committee in your prayers as we discern with the Holy Spirit the future of our parish’s life.

Helping Folks Get to Church: Occassionaly I will receive a request from a parishioner needing a ride to church, unable to find someone in their neighborhood to assist. A new parishioner from Michigan, who now lives in the Arbor Cour Apartments (Maplewood) in Mayfield Heights, needs a ride. He even asked me to put his name, phone number and email – he is so excited to come to our church! If you can help Limbrit Adaikam, please email [email protected] or call him at (847) 373-0334.

Forward in Faith, Hope & Love: We are over 20% of our goal! Please make your family’s commitment today! We are counting on everyone who is part of the SPB family – personal, organizational, staff & volunteers – to all make their witness to improve our wonderful parish facilities! Share your blessings and sacrifices to our capital campaign for driveways and parking lots! Help us achieve our one million dollar goal!

More Testimonies About Giving to the Capital Campaign: • We are so grateful to have a place to work and worship. Thank you for the gifts of grace that you have given to the Peko family. Saint Paschal has transformed our lives in so many ways and we would not be in the position we are without you and this parish. I wish that we could give more to fix the parking lot. It’s interesting to think that something as simple as having a place to park is such a blessing. Thank you for all of the sacrifices that you have made for us and the parish. I know that serving the people of the parish and the staff is not always easy and we are very fortunate to have you working so hard for us. I hope that we raise enough to maintain our home away from home, and that we are here continuing to serve and minister to God and each other for many more years to come. God bless you for your patience, dedication, and endurance. - Anna & George Peko

• I was so moved to see our school children give their “pennies,” cash and enthusiam to the capital campaign. They want their playground, their parking lot to be safe, fun and a place for others to enjoy, too. Their infectious joy is making me want to donate, even though it’s hard for me right now with my retirement needs. This campaign is for the young people and their safety. I am so happy I realized the need of giving to make SPB and its legacy stronger! - Anonymous

Most of our generous donors want to be anonymous in this campaign – they do not wish to be acknowledged, have their name on a plaque or the parking lot. As many have said – here in a summary: “Put the money to the lot and not to recognizition. SPB needs all the help it can get to complete this project quickly for the safety of our children and elderly.”

Community at Prayer: Today, Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the Eymard Room, we will have an information, prayer and recruitment meeting for our prayer in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. All current members who pray for an hour are welcome as well as new members who might be interested in signing up to commit to a particular hour during the week, Monday through Thursdays, following the 9:00 a.m. Mass until 11:00 p.m. at night. We look forward to new folks joining in this special ministry of keeping vigil until the LORD returns again. Remember we would like two persons per hour, but at this point we need someone for Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. to support Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.

Ash Wednesday is March 6: Have you chosen the time you’ll begin your Ash Wednesday service with us? See the Save the Dates page of the bulletin and pick either the 6:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 12:15 p.m., or 7:00 p.m. Mass, or the 4:00 p.m.service.

Filling the Church for Tetelestai: Speaking of the Lenten season, plan on attending the production of the musical play “Tetelestai.” (This is the Greek word that means, “It is Finished,” the last words of Christ on the cross.) Please invite everyone to be part of this ecumenical passion play/musical, sharing the last week of Christ’s life and his resurrection from the dead. Open for all ages, and free, Friday, March 1 & Saturday, March 2 at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 3 there is a matinee at 2:00 p.m. The production takes place in church around the sanctuary (and not on the altar – so this weekend of Masses you will see the stage in the sanctuary). The production is free, but there will be a free-will offering taken for the costs of the musical.

Let’s continue to pray for each other!

In Christ our Eucharist,

Reverend John Thomas Lane, SSS, Class of 1979 (SPB 40th Reunion Saturday, May 18, 6:30 p.m.)
