The Peninsula Bangkok is pleased to welcome Chef Stefan Leitner as the hotel’s new Executive Chef. Born in Austria, Chef Leitner brings a wealth of experience in delighting diners at luxury hotels in Russia, the US, Mainland China and Hong Kong. He has also worked at renowned restaurants in Europe under the guidance of Michelin-starred celebrity chefs, including Reinhard Gerer, Leonard Cernko and Heinz Reitbauer. In 2017, Chef Leitner won the prestigious Golden Cloche Award, which is considered the highest culinary accolade for Austrian chefs who work overseas. Chef Leitner joins The Peninsula Bangkok after spending five years at The Hong Kong Club, a legendary Hong Kong institution that is managed by The Peninsula Hotels. As Executive Chef, he helmed eight dining outlets and the banquet operations for the company. During his tenure, he also restructured the kitchen to maximise its operating potential, successfully reopened Red Room Restaurant to deliver Michelin-starred quality dining, and designed and managed several innovative new menus. Born in Fohnsdorf, a small village in Austria, Chef Leitner completed a four-year chef’s apprenticeship under the tutelage of Restaurateur Koeck, his mentor and inspiration. He then gained high-level culinary experience at some of Austria’s finest restaurants, including one-Michelin-starred Restaurant Kloster Und, Krems; and two-Michelin-starred Restaurant Steirereck, Vienna. At the relatively young age of 25, Chef Leitner decided to gain international experience by taking up an opportunity to work alongside three-Michelin-starred, German Chef Heinz Winkler as Sous Chef, Fine Dining, at The Ritz-Carlton Moscow. During his time in Moscow, the restaurant gained the number one dining ranking in the Russian capital for two consecutive years. -more- THE PENINSULA BANGKOK WELCOMES AWARD-WINNING CHEF STEFAN LEITNER AS THE HOTEL’S NEW EXECUTIVE CHEF / PAGE 2 Furthering his global culinary journey, Chef Leitner relocated from Russia to the sunshine state of Florida to take up the position of Banquet Chef at The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota. After two years in the US, his next culinary adventure took him to China’s tropical destination of Hainan Island, where he assumed the role of Chef de Cuisine at The Ritz-Carlton Sanya’s Sands restaurant, before being promoted to Executive Sous Chef. After two successful years in Sanya, Chef Leitner joined The Hong Kong Club, where he spent 18 months as Executive Sous Chef before being promoted to Executive Chef. Chef Leitner became Executive Chef at The Peninsula Bangkok in October 2018. “Joining The Peninsula Bangkok is both a great challenge and an immense thrill for me. Thailand has long been one of my favourite travel destinations, and during each visit to the country I have been fascinated by Thailand’s unique culture, beautiful landscapes and the warmth of its hospitality. Of course, Thai cuisine is a defining feature for both local people and visitors, and I look forward to incorporating some of the finest and freshest ingredients from across Thailand to create inspirational dining experiences for guests,” says Chef Stefan Leitner, Executive Chef at The Peninsula Bangkok. • The Peninsula Hotels Launches “Tastefully Thai"
26 April 2018 THE PENINSULA BANGKOK CELEBRATES ITS 20th ANNIVERSARY WITH A COLOURFUL NEW EMBLEM INSPIRED BY THAI AND CHINESE CULTURES Designed by in-demand Thai artist Phannapast Taychamaythakool, the lotus leaf logo in rainbow colours is complemented by a series of animations inspired by Bangkok, the City of Angels. The Peninsula Bangkok celebrates its 20th anniversary as the premier urban resort in the Thai capital in 2018 by introducing a commemorative logo, and a series of imaginative illustrations by Thai artist, illustrator and fashion designer Phannapast Taychamaythakool to complement the 20 Amazing Experiences programme. Combining the very best of Thai history, culture, cuisines, spirituality and spa and wellness, this immersive programme is curated by The Peninsula Bangkok to enable guests to create treasured moments with family and friends during their stay in the Land of Smiles. Inspired by timeless Thai mysticism bonded with elements of Chinese culture, the hotel’s 20th anniversary emblem features a traditional Thai pattern called Pra Cham Yam. An inner circle protected by two creatures; Naga, a river creature from Thai mythology, and a Chinese Dragon in the form of Ouroboros, is juxtaposed with two squares overlaid on top of each other. The striking outline evokes an auspicious lotus flower with eight petals, a sacred number in Chinese culture. Anchoring the design with Bangkok imagery, the artist installed the Thai character for the number 20 at the centre of the emblem to represent a royal barge cruising the gentle waves of the Chao Phraya River. The beautifully balanced shades of Peninsula green as the dragon’s head and red, gold, blue and black were influenced by the kaleidoscopic rainbows in the sky that the artist observed while taking a boat ride along the River of Kings.

  • 2 April 2019 1St Temporary Suspension of the Peak Tram Service for the Upgrade Project from 23 April 2019
2 April 2019 1st Temporary suspension of the Peak Tram Service for the upgrade project From 23 April 2019 (Tuesday) for approximately 2-3 months The Peak Tram has proudly served Hong Kong for 130 years. It has successfully transformed from an essential mode of transport to one of Hong Kong’s most popular tourist attractions, serving more than 6 million passengers per year. The approval of Chief Executive in Council for the operating right and upgrade project was granted in 2018, and a substantial upgrade of the Peak Tram system and stations commenced in January 2019, scheduled for completion in early 2021. The upgrade project involves a significant investment of HK$684 million, privately funded by Peak Tramways Company, Limited. The upgrade project will replace the current tramcars, which have a capacity of 120 passengers, with new 210 passenger tramcars. As a result of the larger tramcars, we will completely replace all haulage and control systems, lay new track rails and strengthen the track foundations and bridges. We will also need to extend the current “passing loop” and relocate the Lower Terminus further uphill. We are also planning to completely refurbish both upper and lower termini and create additional queueing capacity at the Lower Terminus for up to 1300 passengers, in a comfortable and entertaining environment. For such a comprehensive upgrade, some temporary suspension to the Peak Tram service will be unavoidable and we have limited this to two suspension periods. The first suspension will start from Tuesday, 23 April 2019 for approximately 2-3 months. During the first temporary service suspension period, visitors can take the following alternative public transport services to the Peak: (A) A Special Route No.
