Narrated by Diamond with infectious enthusiasm and good humor, Reel Injun: On the Trail of the Hollywood Indian is a loving look at cinema through the eyes of the people who appeared in its very first flickering images and have survived to tell their stories their own way. Reel Injun: On the Trail of the Hollywood Indian will air nationally on the upcoming season of the Emmy® Award-winning PBS series Independent Lens in November 2010. Tracing the evolution of cinema’s depiction of Native people from the silent film era to today, Diamond takes the audience on a journey across America to some of cinema’s most iconic landscapes, including Monument Valley, the setting for Hollywood’s greatest Westerns, and the Black Hills of South Dakota, home to Crazy Horse and countless movie legends. -

And through the attention I lavish on it, a new someone emerges online, at least as real as the embodied me. Me and not me. A kind of ghost that shadows me, demands things of me, even on the bus or in the grocery store. I/not I takes form in the still-forming space of online, a space of whispers and shouts, intimate and vast at the same time. -

What's on at the Heritage Centre: the Amazing Race Canada!
VOLUME 23 ISSUE 4 AUTUMN 2013 What’s on at the Heritage Centre: The Amazing Race Canada! Editor: The following article is an excerpt from the RCMP Heritage Centre Staff News Letter, regarding a remarkable accomplishment by all concerned: On Monday August 12, 2013 the RCMP Heritage Centre and “Depot” were featured in episode five of The Amazing Race Canada. “Death by Lentils”, as the episode was named, saw teams searching through truckloads of lentils in search of a small Sergeant Bull Moose key chain which gave them the location of their next clue, the RCMP Heritage Centre. Once on-site, teams were escorted to their next challenge by Heritage Centre staff (dressed in period costume) where Assistant Commissioner Roger Brown, Sergeant Major Tammy Patterson and Corporal Sean Chiddenton awaited. Their task? Set up a barrack room in Fort McLeod and pass inspection. Teams that thought it would be easy got a rude awakening. Rooms were tossed, tears were shed and there were a couple of touching moments; for instance when CO Brown thanked one contestant for his service and in returned was thanked for his service. For those of you who have not seen the episode, it is now available for free viewing at www.ctv.ca/TheAmazingRaceCanada. A HUGE thank you to everyone at “Depot” that helped us participate in this tremendous opportunity! 1 THE CANADA NOT-FOR-PROFIT CORPORATIONS ACT: An Important Message from the Board of Directors of The Friends of the Mounted Police Heritage Centre. The federal government recently revised the their position (since the inception of the Friends legislation governing the structure and conduct four positions on the board have been appointees of not-for-profit (NFP) corporations, including from the RCMP Veterans Association). -

Plural Subjectivity in Stargate SG-1
Language, Literature, and Interdisciplinary Studies (LLIDS) ISSN: 2547-0044 ellids.com/archives/2020/07/3.4-Ferebee.pdf CC Attribution-No Derivatives 4.0 International License www.ellids.com “Pain in Someone Else’s Body”: Plural Subjectivity in Stargate SG-1 K.M. Ferebee Abstract Lennard Davis, in his work on visualizing the disabled body, argues that at root the body is inherently and always already fragmented. The unified “whole body” is, therefore, hallucinatory in nature—an imaginary figure through which the body’s multiplicity is repressed. There is much in this view that is consonant with posthumanism, which so often seeks to destabilize the “whole” and singular one in favor of the multiple, the fragmentary, and the hybrid. Yet despite these considerations of the body as fragmentary, little attention has been paid to the value of considering the body not only as fragmentary, but also as potential fragment. What might we learn by rejecting anthropocentric assumptions about the body-mind’s inherent completeness, and exploring the radically plural ontologies offered by visions of shared, joint, or group body-minds? This paper turns to science fiction as a source of such visions, considering depictions of symbiotic and hive minds through the non-traditional models of ontology and agency. While science fiction has traditionally represented plural being as a troubling and fearful injury to wholeness, this paper aims to highlight the symbiotic Tok’ra1 of television series Stargate SG-1 as a model of excess being that not only challenges the naturalization of the “complete” body, but also asks us to interrogate presumed boundaries between self and other. -
