Most convey a message of joy and peace on earth to all humankind. However, some Christmas tunes include in their lyrics the name of a certain plant that conveys a reason to start kissing. For example, take the song I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, or how about The Christmas Song better known as Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire? Then, there is the song I’ll Be Home for Christmas. These are just a few Christmas tunes that have in their lyrics the name of a plant scientifically known as Viscum album. Most of us know it as mistletoe. Throughout history, mistletoe has inspired all sorts of mystique and charm. It is perceived to hold magical properties. When mistletoe is in our presence, it supposedly creates an amorous atmosphere for us humans to start kissing. In contrast, this plant is actually parasitic. A parasite is defined as an organism that lives in or on another organism (its host) and benefits by deriving nutrients at the host’s expense. Mistletoe has leathery evergreen leaves with waxy white berries. It grows primarily on the branches of deciduous trees such as ash, hawthorn and oak. Deemed somewhat tropical, it is found growing mostly in areas of California and Florida. When a seed from the berry of mistletoe comes in contact with the bark of a host tree, it germinates, sending out fine thread-like roots penetrating the bark anchoring firmly into the living tissue of the host, and absorbing its nutrients.

However, labor disputes in professional sports suggest athletes do not always receive fair compensation for their contributions to league and team success. Any professional athlete, regardless of their race, may claim to endure unjust wages relative to their fellow athlete peers, yet Black professional athletes’ history of exploitation inspires greater concerns. The purpose of this study was twofold: 1) to explore and trace the historical development of basketball in the United States (US) and the critical role Black males played in its growth and commercial development, and 2) to illuminate the perspectives and experiences of Black male professional basketball players concerning the role the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) and National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA), collectively considered as the Players Association for this study, played in their welfare and addressing issues of exploitation.     10TH DECEMBER 2019 The Man Who Invented Christmas Film Adaptations of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol Dr Christine Corton A Christmas Carol is now over 175 years old. Written in 1843, it is certainly the most televised of Dickens’s works and equals if not beats, its closest rival, Oliver Twist (1837-39) for cinema releases. It’s had a huge influence on the way we understand the Christmas festival. It was written at a time when the festival was being revived after centuries of neglect. And its impact was almost immediate. A Christmas Carol quickly achieved iconic status, far more so than any of Dickens’s other Christmas stories. You have to have been living on some far-off planet not to have heard of the story – the word ‘Scrooge’ has come to represent miserliness and ‘Bah, Humbug’ is a phrase often resorted to when indicating someone is a curmudgeon. Even, Field Marshall Montgomery concluded his Christmas Eve message to the Eighth Army on the battlefield with Tiny Tim’s blessing. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.
