for students enrolled in The School of Toronto Dance Theatre’s 3 Professional Training Program. 4 5 You are expected to familiarize yourself with its contents and refer to it as necessary throughout the school year. The handbook covers most policies and practices/procedures that govern the operation of the 6 School. It also provides practical and essential information on staff, fees, dates of upcoming events, and 7 the School in general. 8 The handbook is intended to aid you in answering any questions you may have regarding your day to day 8 life at the School. Any issues not covered in the following pages may be brought to the attention of the 9 office staff. 10 11 13 WELCOME 15 The School of Toronto Dance Theatre is an exciting, creative, and vibrant place where you can train to 17 become a professional dancer. We’re very proud that we have developed over many years a superb faculty; 21 we engage world-renowned guest teachers, and we have an impressive roster of choreographers who work with students in all three years of the Professional Training Program. The quality of our program has 25 brought us national and international regard, and we have an excellent reputation for exceptional and 25 rigorous training. 26 At the School, the focus is on your artistic development, choreographic exploration, and performance 28 quality. We provide strong and challenging technical training and offer a versatile education that prepares 30 you for a professional career. Beattie, Randazzo and Earle stepped down as artistic directors in the spring of 1983 and were replaced by Kenny Pearl. The present artistic director of the Toronto Dance Theatre is Christopher House. Since their first performance in 1968, the Toronto Dance Theatre has performed in every province across Canada and has toured in the United States, Europe and Asia. The majority of the company's repertoire consists of the choreography of the three founders including "Against Sleep" (Beatty 1968), "Court of Miracles" (Earle 1982), and "A Simple Melody" (Randazzo 1977). House, who choreographed "Glass Houses" (1983), won a Jean A. Chalmers award for his achievements. The School of Toronto Dance Theatre was also founded in 1968, at the same time as the Toronto Dance Theatre. The dance school, the first of its kind in Canada, offers a comprehensive training program in modern dance.

    on the MOVE 2012: Presenter biographies Keynote Address—Moving Parts: Working together to make dancing life better. Eroca Nichols: After earning her Honors BFA in Film/Video/Performance and Sculpture from California College of the Arts (San Francisco and Oakland, CA), Eroca Nicols’ artistic practice shifted to dance and movement. She studied in the professional programs at both Ballet Creole and The School of Toronto Dance Theatre before pursuing further training in release-based and improvisational dance forms. She is currently a Toronto-based dance artist and educator. Her choreographic work through her company, Lady Janitor, has appeared at: Nuit Blanche, Toronto, The Cube (Bristol, UK), Dance in My Backyard, Toronto's International Dance Day, Dance Matters Performance Series, Fresh Blood, Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival, Fringe Toronto and The Young Centre for the Performing Arts. In addition to her own work, Eroca also performs in the work of others among these artists are Pam Johnson, Les Imprudanses, Kaeja d'Dance and Dreamwalker dance projects. Eroca is Co-Founder of the Toronto Dance Community Love-In, with fellow dancer Amanda Acorn. She teaches contact and contemporary dance as well as Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga. Eroca’s teaching and training are deeply influenced in her continued study of the Axis Syllabus. Panel—Year One: What’s Your Action Plan? Sarah Matton attended Ryerson University’s theatre dance program where she achieved her BFA. She is also a qualified Tap and Jazz teacher (A.D.A.P.T.) and a qualified acro teacher (P.A.E.C.).     50TH 50 ANNIVERSARY SEASON 2017 / 2018 In 1968, three forward-thinking dance artists– Patricia Beatty, WELCOME TO TDT'S David Earle and Peter Randazzo– came together to establish a company and school that changed the face of Canadian dance. By encouraging innovation and collaboration, and acquiring a FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY permanent home for the two organizations, they planted seeds for the creation of a vast repertoire of Canadian works –almost SEASON 500 at last count– and the development of generations of dancers and choreographers. TDT continues to be an incubator for the development of dance artists, from emerging to senior, as shown by this year's Glass Fields program at the Fleck Dance Theatre, by our second Emerging Voices Project, and by our special co-presentation with Toronto Heritage Dance. We have toured across Canada since our inception and performed in many of the great cities of the world including New York, London, Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul, Mumbai, Berlin and Mexico City. In this anniversary year, we travel to three cities in Colombia and perform in eleven Canadian cities coast to coast. Fifty years later, Toronto is a radically different city than it was in 1968. The company reflects the city back to itself by celebrating the power of community, the importance of critical engagement and the many ways that live performance can change our dialogue with the world. We have much to celebrate! None of it would be possible, this year or in the past, without the support of legions of donors, funders, volunteers, staff members and artists, and the love and attention of the audience.
