In fact, the environment at SEC is so welcoming that it’s a wildlife sanctuary where even endangered species thrive. PROTECTING AVIAN WILDLIFE With more than 66,000 distribution poles in OUC’s service area, ensuring the safety of bird populations is a priority. Many build nests on power poles and structures, which increase risks for both the birds and our electric system. Using computer modeling to track nesting locations and foraging behaviors of bald eagles, we work to minimize these risks by protecting the birds and improving safety and reliability for our customers. PLUGGING INTO FUEL EFFICIENCY Embracing fuel-efficient technology as a commitment to green initiatives, OUC was the first municipal utility in Florida to acquire a plug-in hybrid that gets up to 99 mpg. Today, we have 6 all-electric cars in our fleet and 47 hybrid vehicles. For our line technicians out in the field, we have four hybrid bucket trucks and one auxiliary battery system to operate the aerial tower hydraulics. Bucket trucks are a promising application for hybrid technology since much of the vehicle’s work is done when stationary. The hybrid diesel-electric system allows the main engine to be turned off while crews operate entirely off the battery. ADDING NEW FUELS TO THE MIX As part of an overall plan to reduce emissions in OUC’s fleet, we use B20 – a blend of 80 percent petroleum diesel and 20 percent biodiesel – a clean-burning alternative fuel made from new or used vegetables oils and animal fats, including recycled cooking grease. Compared to petroleum diesel, biodiesel produces lower emissions, which is better for the environment. B20 has been integrated seamlessly into our fueling system without any changes to vehicles or fuel storage and distribution equipment.

Nexif Energy also acquired OneWind’s 32% share in RPVD Development Pty Ltd, which owns the Walkaway II wind and solar projects in Western Australia. Global news New Energy Solar, an Australian renewable energy investment fund, said on 12 December 2016 that it has acquired a majority interest in 2 large-scale solar projects in California, US, with a total capacity of 134MW, from SunPower Corp (SPWR.O) for an undisclosed value. The projects, with long-term PPAs for 100% of the power generated, are expected to generate a five-year average yield of 6.5% p.a. (before impact of borrowing costs and tax). PKA A/S, a Danish pension funds manager, said on 15 December 2016 that it had agreed to sell its 22.5% stake in the 288MW Butendiek wind farm in Germany to a consortium managed by Itochu Corp (8001.T) for nearly DKK1 billion ($193 million).

    Utility‐Scale Solar Projects in the United States Operating, Under Construction, or Under Development Updated January 17, 2012 Overview This list is for informational purposes only, reflecting projects and completed milestones in the public domain. The information in this list was gathered from public announcements of solar projects in the form of company press releases, news releases, and, in some cases, conversations with individual developers. It is not a comprehensive list of all utility‐scale solar projects under development. This list may be missing smaller projects that are not publicly announced. Particularly, many smaller projects located outside of California that are built on a short time‐scale may be underrepresented on this list. Also, SEIA does not guarantee that every identified project will be built. Like any other industry, market conditions may impact project economics and timelines. SEIA will remove a project if it is publicly announced that it has been cancelled. SEIA actively promotes public policy that minimizes regulatory uncertainty and encourages the accelerated deployment of utility‐scale solar power. This list includes ground‐mounted utility‐scale solar power plants larger than 1 MW that directly feed into the transmission grid. This list does not include large "behind the meter" projects that only serve on‐site load. One exception to this is large projects on military bases that only serve the base (see, for example, Nellis Air Force Base). While utility‐scale solar is a large and growing segment of the U.S. solar industry, cumulative installations for residential and non‐residential (commercial, non‐profit and government) solar total 841 MW and 1,634 MW, respectively.
