Dear Keith

Re Human Rights and Labour’s anti India resolution

The Labour Party’s resolution at the annual conference on Kashmir mentions Human Rights.

You are fully aware of what China is doing to its Muslim population. A million Uighurs have been incarcerated in China’s so called ‘Education camps.” They have Human Rights too and yet there was no resolution against China and its treatment of Uighur Muslims at the Labour Party Conference! The conference was happy to unanimously pass a resolution condemning India so why not China?

I refer to the following article which has shocked us. Desecration of graves is a very serious matter in all religions and cultures. We hope you will also get this discussed at Labour’s National Executive committee meeting and ask Jeremy Corbyn to meet the Chinese Ambassador to discuss this gruesome violation. You may also consider formulating and supporting resolutions to be presented at Labour’s National Executive Committee with the help from Naz Shah MP Bradford, Imran Hussain MP, Bradford and Jon Ashworth MP Leicester South condemning China for this gross violation of Human Rights of Chinese Muslims. https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/china/even-in-death-uighurs-feel- long-reach-of-chinese-state/articleshow/71499206.cms

Please also consider writing to the Prime Minister Imran Khan of Pakistan, if protocol allows it, who pleads ignorance of the sufferings of Chinese Muslims and violations of their Human Rights. He appears reluctant, like many politicians including the British ones, to criticise China. They are of course happy to criticise India and talk about Kashmir. In the following interview PM Khan at 4.15 minutes says he is not aware of Chinese crackdown on Uighur Muslims or Pakistani men whose wives have ‘disappeared’ in China under the Chinese crackdown of Uighur Muslims.

In case you are not aware, PM khan is currently in China for bi lateral talks. Bets are on whether or not he will raise the Human Rights issue of Chinese Muslims with the Chinese president.
