Web: www.ubiquecrm.com Mail: [email protected] Office: (+27)116750125 i PHASE 1 HIA/AIA REPORT FARM 387 PORTION 18 GROBLERSHOOP NORTHERN CAPE Project description UBIQUE Heritage Consultants were appointed by EnviroAfrica cc. as independent heritage specialists in accordance with Section 38 of the NHRA, to conduct a cultural heritage assessment to determine the impact of the proposed development of a holiday resort on Portion 18 of Farm 387 Groblershoop, on any sites, features, or objects of cultural heritage significance. The site is located on Gordonia Rd, approximately 1.7 km north of Groblershoop in the Z.F. McCawu District Municipality, Northern Cape. Construction of various accommodation types, a thatched roof entrance, restaurant, ablution facilities, swimming pool and laundry room, are already in process. Infrastructure such as septic tanks has been erected and access and internal roads have been cleared. Further development will involve the construction of recreational facilities such as an amphitheatre, a solid waste facility, additional accommodation, a double-story hotel, and a quarter mile racing strip and spin track with a paved parking area with separate access from the N8. Psammophis trinasalis and P. namibensis, previously treated as subspecies of P. leightoni, are recognised as good evolutionary species which show ecological differences. 2. Psammophis orientalis, previously regarded as a subspecies of P. subtaeniatus, differs from the lat- ter in a suite of characters and is parapatric with it in Zimbabwe, so it is now recognised as an evolu- tionary species. 3. Psammophis brevirostris and P. leopardinus, previously regarded as subspecies of P. sibilans (Linnaeus), are recognised as relict evolutionary species. The Zambian populations previously assigned to P. leopardinus have been described as a new species (Hughes & Wade, in press). Geographic distribution Several male, Bactrocera dorsalis specimens, were detected in Methyl Eugenol-baited traps between Douglas and Prieska, situated approximately 300 km East of Upington as well as in Groblershoop, Karos, Upington, Kakamas and Augrabies, areas alongside or close to the Orange River, in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. Other male detections occurred in Jan Kempsdorp, which is approximately 400km from North-West of Upington. Nature of immediate or Potential spread or establishment of B.dorsalis into other production potential danger areas where its presence may impede the export potential of the relevant host commodities affected. Summary Several male, Bactrocera dorsalis specimens, were detected in Methyl Eugenol-baited traps from Douglas to Kakamas, areas alongside or close to the Orange River, in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. Four specimens were collected from Douglas and two specimens from Prieska, situated approximately 300 km West of Upington, where wine grapes are produced. In Groblershoop, also an area of wine and dry grapes production, approximately 110 km from Upington, two specimens were detected. Two specimens were detected in Karos, situated 50 km West of Groblershoop.
