A cross-sectional study was conducted during April-June 2007 and the aim of the study is to assess the water quality of Angke River by detection of Ascaris lumbricoides eggs and the protozoan cysts. A total 24 L water of Angke River was collected from 8 sampling locations consisted of Kembangan/Duri Kosambi (upper reaches of river), Pesing Polgar (lower reaches of river), Teluk Gong (lower reaches of river), Pantai Indah Kapuk (estuary), River Mouth, left side of River Mouth, right side of River Mouth, and outer side of River Mouth. The water specimen was examined microscopically for A. lumbricoides eggs and protozoan cysts using a concentrated technique. Of 8 locations, 4 locations (50 %, 4/8), Kembangan/Duri Kosambi, Teluk Gong, Pantai Indah Kapuk and left side of river mouth were positive for A. lumbricoides eggs and 2 locations (25%, 2/8), Kembangan/Duri Kosambi and Pesing Polgar positive for Entamoeba histolytica cysts. Overall, 60 A. lumbricoides eggs and 2 E. histolytica cysts were found in 24 L water specimens. Among sampling locations, the most number of A. lumbricoides eggs were found at eastuary. The water of Angke River, Jakarta, has been contaminated by human feces contained A. lumbricoides eggs and E. histolytica cysts. The water was unsafe for drinking water. • Only Yesterday in Jakarta: Property Boom and Consumptive Trends in the Late New Order Metropolitan City
Southeast Asian Studies, Vol. 38, No.4, March 2001 Only Yesterday in Jakarta: Property Boom and Consumptive Trends in the Late New Order Metropolitan City ARAI Kenichiro* Abstract The development of the property industry in and around Jakarta during the last decade was really conspicuous. Various skyscrapers, shopping malls, luxurious housing estates, condominiums, hotels and golf courses have significantly changed both the outlook and the spatial order of the metropolitan area. Behind the development was the government's policy of deregulation, which encouraged the active involvement of the private sector in urban development. The change was accompanied by various consumptive trends such as the golf and cafe boom, shopping in gor geous shopping centers, and so on. The dominant values of ruling elites became extremely con sumptive, and this had a pervasive influence on general society. In line with this change, the emergence of a middle class attracted the attention of many observers. The salient feature of this new "middle class" was their consumptive lifestyle that parallels that of middle class as in developed countries. Thus it was the various new consumer goods and services mentioned above, and the new places of consumption that made their presence visible. After widespread land speculation and enormous oversupply of property products, the property boom turned to bust, leaving massive non-performing loans. Although the boom was not sustainable and it largely alienated urban lower strata, the boom and resulting bust represented one of the most dynamic aspect of the late New Order Indonesian society. I Introduction In 1998, Indonesia's "New Order" ended.

  • Land Subsidence of Jakarta Metropolitan Area
Land Subsidence of Jakarta Metropolitan Area Rochman DJAJA, Jacub RAIS, Hasanuddin Z ABIDIN and Kuntjoro WEDYANTO, Indonesia Key words: spatial planning, land subsidence, groundwater SUMMARY Land subsidence is one of vertical deformation of the earth’s crust as a consequence of crustal dynamics. Land subsidence changes the vertical position (height/elevation) of the ground control points as reference points for all engineering works, and which also influence the structure of all infrastructures and other related activities in the area. The GPS land subsidence monitoring network was established in Jakarta metropolitan area and the observations were held in December 1997, June 1999, June 2000, June 2001 and October 2001 respectively. The rate of land subsidence at each location of GPS monitoring points shown the average variations from 7.5 cm to 32.8 cm within four years period. This means that the land subsidence is influenced by the characteristic of local area where the points are located. The heights obtained by GPS satellite observation periodically has been used to figure out the trend of land subsidence and shown the largest rate of 84 mm/year at Pantai Indah Kapuk (North Jakarta). Moreover, comparing the land subsidence trend and the groundwater level trend at the wells located close to GPS monitoring points, a positive correlation between the two phenomena is shown. This can be concluded that the land subsidence is also influenced by groundwater extraction. Considering the land subsidence effect, the investigation of land subsidence in Jakarta metropolitan area and other cities is essential in support of spatial planning at present as well as in the future and of monitoring the established physical facilities.

The Initial Idea Tourism according to Weaver and Lawton (2010: 2): The sum of the processes, activities, and outcomes arising from the relationships and the interactions among tourists, tourism suppliers, host governments, host communities, and surrounding environments that are involved in the attracting, transporting, hosting and management of tourists and other visitors. According to Weaver and Lawton (2010: 2), tourism is the conclusion of every interactions between tourists, suppliers, government and residents of the host country, and the environment of the host country that possess a role on the effort of entertaining every visitors of the host country. Tourism industry is developing in accordance to the demand of the consumers, which is still increasing until now. Tourism industry is divided into many divisions such as accommodation, food and beverage, transport and storage, cultural and recreational services, and etc. Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs according to Robbins and Judge (2013: 237): Hypothesized that within every human being, there exists a hierarchy of five needs, which are physiological needs, safety needs, social needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs. According to Robbins and Judge (2013: 237), every human possess five needs which is bodily needs, physical and emotional safety needs, social relationship needs, internal and external state needs, and self development needs. Every human have to fulfill their needs such as hunger, shelter, protection, belongingness, recognition, self-fulfillment, and etc. By fulfilling these needs, a human will have a decent life. Maybe 1 it will be difficult for a human to fulfill all of the needs, but more needs fulfilled will bring more satisfaction for the human.

  • Bab I Pendahuluan
Bab I Pendahuluan BAB I PENDAHULUAN 1.1. 1.2.
