ITINERARY

Operating itinerary for Ravenscroft school summer 2009

Day 1 From USA to Nairobi, Kenya

Day 2 On arrival at the Nairobi Airport meet and transfer to Stanley Hotel – Nairobi, booked on Bed and Breakfast basis.

Day 3 After breakfast, at 10Am, start your morning city tour including Nairobi Museum, Snake Park, Giraffe Centre Karen Blixen and Bomas of Kenya Lunch will be provided at the Carnivore Restaurant – Bed, Dinner and Breakfast at Stanley Hotel .Nairobi was build in 1899, it comes from Masai word “Enkare Nyrobi”meaning place of cold water

Day 4 This day will be reserved for school visits i.e. You will visit a private high school around Nairobi Visit a government sponsored high school Visit Ofafa secondary school – government sponsored school--especially for the low paid Kenyan parents. At times of the day, you will be getting lectures from different people i.e. on African history, pre-colonial and post colonial eras and the Leakey’s legacy. Lunch will be provided at a local restaurant in Nairobi. Bed, Dinner and Breakfast at Stanley Hotel.

Day 5 After breakfast drive towards Masai Mara game reserve arriving at Sarova Mara Lodge on time for lunch.

After lunch 4.00 pm start your first game drive at Masai Mara Game Reserve.

Bed, Dinner and Breakfast at Sarova Mara Camp.

Day 6 : Early morning game drive / further game drive after Breakfast, lunch at Sarova Mara Lodge. 4.00 p.m. game drive at the park bed dinner and breakfast at Sarova Mara Camp

Masai Mara is Kenya’s finest wildlife sanctuary. Everything about his reserve is outstanding. The wildlife is abundant and the gentle rolling plains are amazing.

The Masai people stay around this area their beautifully made Manyata (houses) will be awaiting for you to go inside, a lecture from the chief of the village will talk to you. Cow piercing and blood taking will be demonstrated to you life and many more.

Day 7: After breakfast drive towards Lake arriving at lion Hill lodge in time for lunch. At 4 p.m., go for your game drive at Lake Nakuru National Park. Lake Nakuru is the Home of millions of flamingo and guarantee to see rhinos.

Day 8: Drive to Nairobi Airport for your local flight to arriving at White sands hotel for late lunch.

Mombasa is the second largest town in Kenya and is located off the coast of Kenya. The culture and history of the people and town is remarkable. Kenyan’s of all ethnic backgrounds and religions can be found. Native blacks, Asians, and Arabs who are all Africans but not black-- have been living at the East Africa Coast for over 500 years. The history and organization on the tour helps put into perspective how all this came about.

Day 9: After breakfast you will visit Fort Jesus, the Mwembe Tayari open air market, the local Bazaars, handicrafts carvers, and the business district.

Day 10: This will be a special day to visit a primary school at Mombasa; this school is a government school for poor children. Most of the children who attend this school are orphaned children. They lack good accommodation, good class rooms, and proper desks among other things. They really need brotherly, sisterly, fatherly and motherly love.

All meals at White Sands Hotel.

Day 11: This will be a day to relax at the hotel and use the hotel facilities i.e. swimming, wide selection of water sports for jet skiing to deep sea during massage treatments.

Day 12: Drive to the airport for your flight back to Nairobi.

Lunch, Bed, Dinner and Breakfast at the Stanley Hotel.

Day 13: Drive to Machakos arriving at Garden Hotel in time for lunch.

Machakos district is an administrative district in the of Kenya. Its capital town is Machakos. The district has population of 906,644 people.

The local climate is semi arid. The terrain is hilly; the district has an altitude from 1000 to 1600 meters above the sea level. Akamba people are the dominant tribe.

You will be able to visit a primary school at this dry area and learn from them the hardship they face before they join secondary school you will be able to talk to the students and go inside their class rooms and follow a teaching section.

Day 14 After breakfast drive to Nairobi arriving at the Stanley Hotel in time for lunch. Bed, Dinner, and Breakfast at the Stanley Hotel

Day 15 Visit one private school and one government high school including lecture on African history. Pre-colonial and post-colonial eras/Leakey’s legacy.

Day 16 Day at leisure /last minute shopping a waiting for your transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
