I S S U E S I X SPRING 2008 Welcome to the Sixth Edition of Quedgeley Working with the Community for the Community Parish Council’s Newsletter Welcome to Quedgeley Parish Council’s Newsletter. I am pleased to say that since our last newsletter we have four new parish Councillors including representation from the Kingsway development and all are most welcome. On behalf of local residents I attended the Hunts Grove Inquiry and was most disappointed at the way it was conducted in not giving local people a fair hearing. Together with three other nearby parishes we have made our views known to the Secretary of State. It remains now to see what decision is made and how it will affect Quedgeley. Up Close with County Councillor Jackie Hall I have lived in Quedgeley since 1979 and represented Quedgeley since 1997 as County Councillor. During that time I’ve seen a great many changes. In 1979 there was one corner shop, situated opposite the entrance to School Lane and the bus used to run every hour! We do have more facilities and we now have the long awaited South West By-Pass in place, but with the growing population at Kingsway I fear that these facilities are not enough. Some residents have expressed concerns that GP appointments aren’t always readily available when you need them. I am working with the NHS and developers, along- side your City and Parish Councillors to try and improve these facilities and ensure that the new development has community facilities of its own. If you wish to contact me: Jackie Hall 01452 883463 or Email [email protected] Out and About in Quedgeley.......... Quedgeley Area Conservation Association (QACA) is a group of people, and members who are dedicated to saving the remaining open spaces within the Quedgeley area. We have a Committee that meets every month to discuss current issues. We work closely with the Parish Council, local Police and other organisations and are actively seeking to gain Charitable status which will enable us to reach our aims. These are to secure and take control of areas like the Local Nature Re- serve, The Ancient Listed Monument (The Moat) and other areas around Quedgeley. Once we have control, these areas will be completely free from future development. We are trying to promote these areas, for example we are working with the local scouts to build bird boxes to line a corridor from the nature reserve to the apple or- chard at Green Farm. We have re- ceived a grant from Quedgeley Community Trust, which will enable us to do this. We are also looking at putting a seat and two litter bins in the Local Nature Reserve and want to start a Youth Membership, to encourage the youth of Quedgeley to have their say in what happens in their environment. If you would like more details about QACA visit our web site www.qaca.org.uk or telephone 01452 722582 We are desperately seeking people from Kingsway to form a new group Gloucester South Police Station 48 th Gloucester Scout Group Located at St James, Quedgeley is one of We currently run Beaver Scouts and Cub Scouts, unfortunately seventeen Inspector Neighbourhood Areas due to a lack of leaders we have children who want to move up to (INA's) within the county.
