Scottevest Sport TEC $1.50 Offers the Mobile Person a Symbotic Experience with Technology; a Mobile Office with Sleeves ScotteVest Sport TEC $1.50 Offers the mobile person a symbotic experience with technology; a mobile office with sleeves. Jim McCarthy, Editor MARCH 2003 Sometimes it's not about the features or functions of the handheld or mobile device at all; it's about how the device and user interact with the clothing. SCOTTeVEST, combined with the Technology Enabled Clothing system offers the mobile person a symbotic experience with technology by integrating an improved and simplified PAN (Personal Area Network) from TEC, 16 pockets, Coolmax® mesh interior and adjustable waist as well as sleeve cuffs in a limited edition ScotteVest, the Sport TEC (formerly called Sport Lite). Besides the many pockets, Coolmax® mesh interior, felt neck line or handy key tether, the thrill of the ScotteVest Sport TEC is in the unique, VOLUME 2 NUMBER 3 patent-pending, Technology Enabled Clothing system. This system creates a Personal Area Network (PAN), or a conduit system connecting devices pocketanywhere from pocket to pocket through the lining of the jacket/vest. TM the journal for a mobile life The TEC system has also been improved by eliminating the Velcro flaps that once kept the conduit system closed. Now, the user simply threads cables for earbuds, earphones, portable battery chargers and other accessories through special hidden openings in pockets which lead to a Pilot Chameleon One Universal completely sewn in conduit system. • Why Did Apple Kill Newton?
From Pen Computing Magazine #22, June 1998 Why Did Apple Kill Newton? ©Copyright 1998 David MacNeill Early Friday morning, February 27, 1998, Apple Computer made official what the Newton cognoscenti had strongly suspected for six months: the Newton handheld computing platform was dead. The rather terse press release gave the basic facts: Apple will cease all Newton OS hardware and software development, no more products will be made after the existing stock is depleted, and Apple will continue to provide support to users. Brief mention was made of development of a new low-cost Mac OS-based mobile device in the future, but no details were offered. But the most galling omission was the lack of an answer to the question on the minds of hundreds of thousands of shocked, angry Newton owners: Why? Before I attempt to answer this question, let’s take a quick tour of the mercurial five-year career of Newton. This will serve to prepare you for the several explanations we will be considering. A brief history of Newton During its turbulent five-year life, Newton technology was close to death several times, yet always managed to survive. Department heads came and went, but the essential concept of the personal digital assistant (PDA) was too compelling to die easily: A small, inexpensive, pen-based computing device that would accompany you everywhere, and that would learn enough about you to make informed assumptions about how to help you keep track of the myriad little bits of information we all must carry. It would be simple enough for anyone to use, a true computer for the rest of us.

  • Velcro Fasteners – What You Need to Know
Velcro Fasteners – What You Need to Know Among the fastening systems we offer for our removable insulation blankets is Velcro. An excellent and easy to use fastener, Velcro is often used in applications which require a simple and quick fastening method. Velcro fastening does, however, come with some limitations, which users need to be aware of in order for it to function as intended. Background – How it works: Velcro is actually the trade name for what is generically known as ‘Hook and Loop’ fastening. The hook‐and‐loop fastener was conceived in 1941 by Swiss engineer George de Mestral who lived in Commugny, Switzerland. The idea came to him one day after returning from a hunting trip with his dog in the Alps. He took a close look at the burrs (seeds) of burdock that kept sticking to his clothes and his dog's Tiny hooks can be seen fur. He examined them under a microscope, and noted covering the surface of this their hundreds of "hooks" that caught on anything with a burr loop, such as clothing, animal fur, or hair. He saw the possibility of binding two materials reversibly in a simple fashion if he could figure out how to duplicate the hooks and loops. It took de Mestral around 10 years to perfect the process, and Velcro was born.1 1 Wikepedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velcro Velcro Fastening on Removable Insulation Blankets: Velcro fastening systems are supplied on rolls of paired woven tapes. The materials used in making these woven tapes are typically one or more of nylon, polyester, and Nomex (a flame‐resistant meta‐aramid material developed in the early 1960s by DuPont).
