Disaster Management Plan – 2020-21Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Cum, Deputy Commissioner, Chikkamagaluru - 577 101 District Disaster Management Authority, Chikkamagaluru District, Karnataka Chikkamagaluru District, Karnataka 08262-230401 (O), 231499 (ADC), 231222 (Fax) [email protected], deo@[email protected], [email protected] F O R E W O R D The bounty of nature with land, water, hills and so on are the beautiful creation of God which the so-called modern human beings cannot create or replicate despite advances in science and technology. The whole responsibility lies on us to maintain God's creation in its pristine state without disturbing or intervening in the ecological balance. It is observed that the more we rise in science and technology, the less we care about protecting and maintaining our environment. Indiscriminate, improper and injudicious use of environment will result in mother nature deviating from its original path and cause hazard to human life and property in the form of disasters. Chikkamagaluru district is one of the hazard prone district in Karnataka on account of landslides, drought, floods etc. The whole of the district has faced unprecedented rains in August 2019 and 2020 which has resulted in loss of human lives and destruction of property which has taught a lesson of prudence and sustainable growth to human beings. This District Disaster Management Plan devises a strategy for reducing the hazards and dangers of all kinds of disasters and accidents. It is a dedicated effort by the DDMA, Chikkamagaluru to prepare a comprehensive District Disaster Management Plan under the leadership of the District Administration. It contains the District Profile, an assessment of vulnerability and a list of possible disasters, risk assessment, the institutional and infrastructural mechanism for facing such disasters, the preparedness of the district to overcome the disasters, an effective communication plan containing the contact numbers of Officers and the standard operating procedures for effectively dealing with the disasters which are likely to occur.

We have been extracting energy, materials and organisms from nature and altering landscapes at a rate that cannot be a sustainable one. Our nature is an essential partnership; an 'essential', because each living species has its space and role', and performs an activity vital to the whole; a 'partnership', because the biological species or the living components of nature can only thrive together, because together they create a dynamic equilibrium. Nature is further a dynamic entity that never remains the same- that changes, that adjusts, that evolves; 'equilibrium', that is in spirit, balanced and harmonious. Nature, in fact, promotes evolution, radiation and diversity. The current biodiversity is an inherited vital resource to us, which needs to be carefully conserved for our future generations as it holds the key to the progress in agriculture, aquaculture, clothing, food, medicine and numerous other fields.

Micrixalidae, Micrixalus): a Taxonomic Revision with Description of 14 New SpeciesCeylon Journal of Science (Bio. D. Biju1,*, Sonali Garg1, K. V. Gururaja2, Yogesh Shouche3 and Sandeep A. Walujkar3 1Systematics Lab, Department of Environmental Studies, University of Delhi, Delhi 110 007, India 2 Centre for Infrastructure, Sustainable Transportation and Urban Planning, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore 560 012, India 3Microbial Culture Collection, National Center for Cell Science, NCCS Complex, Pune University Campus, Ganeshkhind, Pune 411 007, India Accepted April 26, 2014 ABSTRACT In this study, we investigate species level diversity in the monotypic frog family Micrixalidae, which is endemic to the Western Ghats of Peninsular India. Attempting the first near-complete taxon sampling of Indian dancing frogs from the entire Western Ghats, we use 138 tissue samples collected from 70 localities over the last 12 years for DNA barcoding. Our results of multiple mitochondrial gene (16S and COI) barcoding reveal unexpectedly high species level diversity in the genus Micrixalus. Based on molecular and morphological evidence, we herein describe 14 new species, leading to a more than two-fold increase in the number of known species in this ancient lineage. Additionally, certain taxonomic uncertainties about the status of previously known taxa in this genus are resolved. Micrixalus narainensis and M. swamianus are considered as junior subjective synonyms of M. kottigeharensis, whereas M. herrei is resurrected from synonymy of M.
