Signal Flow Marty Mccann ©1997 You Must Understand Signal Flow in Order to Fully Comprehend How a Sound Reinforcement System Functions Signal Flow Marty McCann ©1997 You must understand Signal Flow in order to fully comprehend how a sound reinforcement system functions. Understanding Signal Flow lets you know just which components connect to which and in what order, so that you can hook up the sound system correctly each time. I am going to teach you about signal flow by introducing you to the Audio Chain, or the sequence in which your sound reinforcement system's individual components, connect together. • And Passive Speakers?
To be active or not to be active – that is the question... To be active or not to be active – that is the question... 1. Active, passive – the situation 2. Active and passive loudspeaker – the basic difference 3. Passive loudspeaker 4. Active loudspeaker 5. The ADAM loudspeaker: passive option, active optimum 1. Active versus Passive – the Situation In any hifi-system, the loudspeakers are the pivotal component concerning sound quality. That is not to say that the other components do not matter. Nevertheless, it is indisputable that the loudspeaker is decisive for the sound of a hifi-system. It is – besides the acoustical properties of the listening room and the recording itself – the core of any music reproduction. The history of loudspeaker development has produced a great variety of very different systems and designs. The circuit technology of the frequency-separating filter that separates the audio signal into different frequency ranges is determining the design of a loudspeaker. In this respect we distinguish between active and passive systems. Usually, this is a topic that is often underestimated in its importance for sound quality. Active-passive is much more than just a technical negligibility: In fact, the impact of the dividing network on the overall sound of a loudspeaker is substantial. Active or passive – which system is preferable? Considering the aspects mentioned before, it may become a little more comprehensive why the very question comes up over and over again in the hifi-world. For decades it has been spooking as a debate on principles in the journals and magazines and for some time, now, in the web forums.

  • Dpdb Passive Direct
Thank you for purchasing the ART Dual Passive Direct Box. This rock solid, roadworthy DI Box is a dual version of our popular PDB. It allows for the connection of the outputs of electronic musical instruments (or other audio sources) to the balanced inputs of mixer consoles. The dPDB also allows connection of a music source to an instrument amplifier while simultaneously patching it to a mixer via the dPDB. Features: 1. Switchable Input Attenuation * 0dB for electric guitar and bass pickups * -20dB for line level signals, such as keyboards and CD players * -40dB for speaker feeds 2. 50k Ohm Instrument Input The dPDB matches the signal level and impedance with unity gain, without any adverse effects on the source signal. 3. Parallel Link jack The 50k ohm parallel link jack output enables you to connect the output from the dPDB directly to power amplifiers without a separate preamplifier. 4. 600 Ohm XLR Output Jack The 600 ohm XLR output jack enables you to send a balanced signal to a mixing console. 5. Switchable Ground Lift A switchable ground lift is provided to help eliminate hum caused by ground loops. 6. Stereo Output Capabilities Perfect for various stereo applications such as keyboard(s) or guitar(s). Applications: 1. Electric guitar and bass pick up output signals The high impedance signal from a guitar or bass guitar pickup is translated by the dPDB into a low impedance balanced signal required by mixing consoles. Suggested setting – set the input attenuation to 0dB. 2. Keyboards and line level signals The dPDB automatically balances and matches the line level outputs of modern electronic keyboards.

Digital offers great benefits to all of us, and makes our lives easier and better. Such benefits would have been impossible using analog technology. Who would go back to the world of cassette tapes, for example, after experiencing the ease of access and clean sound quality of a CD? Until recently, analog sound systems have been the standard for sound reinforcement and PA applications. However, recent technological advances have brought the benefits of digital audio to the live sound arena. Digital audio is superior

Milan Řehák 2 Abstract In this thesis I discuss, analyse and intend to answer the question: What is the best way to capture the sound of the acoustic accordion? It was my desire to explore this theme that led me to this research, and I believe that this question is important to many other accordionists as well. From the very beginning, I wanted the thesis to be not only an academic material but also that it can be used as an instruction manual, which could serve accordionists and others who are interested in this subject, to delve deeper into it, understand it and hopefully get answers to their questions about this subject. The thesis contains five main chapters: Amplifying of the accordion at live events, Processing of the accordion sound, Recording of the accordion in a studio - the specifics of recording of the accordion, Specific recording solutions and Examples of recording and amplifying of the accordion in practice of other accordion players, and two recordings: D. Scarlatti - Sonata D minor K 141, V. Trojan - The Collasped Cathedral.

21 In the Studio: The Role of Recording Techniques in Rock Music (2006) John Covach I want this record to be perfect. Meticulously perfect. Steely Dan-perfect. -Dave Grohl, commencing work on the Foo Fighters 2002 record One by One When we speak of popular music, we should speak not of songs but rather; of recordings, which are created in the studio by musicians, engineers and producers who aim not only to capture good performances, but more, to create aesthetic objects. (Zak 200 I, xvi-xvii) In this "interlude" Jon Covach, Professor of Music at the Eastman School of Music, provides a clear introduction to the basic elements of recorded sound: ambience, which includes reverb and echo; equalization; and stereo placement He also describes a particularly useful means of visualizing and analyzing recordings. The student might begin by becoming sensitive to the three dimensions of height (frequency range), width (stereo placement) and depth (ambience), and from there go on to con sider other special effects. One way to analyze the music, then, is to work backward from the final product, to listen carefully and imagine how it was created by the engineer and producer. To illustrate this process, Covach provides analyses .of two songs created by famous producers in different eras: Steely Dan's "Josie" and Phil Spector's "Da Doo Ron Ron:' Records, tapes, and CDs are central to the history of rock music, and since the mid 1990s, digital downloading and file sharing have also become significant factors in how music gets from the artists to listeners. Live performance is also important, and some groups-such as the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers Band, and more recently Phish and Widespread Panic-have been more oriented toward performances that change from night to night than with authoritative versions of tunes that are produced in a recording studio.
