West Constituency

Steve Clark – Public Governor for West Norfolk (second term of office)

Steve Clark was re-elected as public Governor for West Norfolk from February 2017. Steve lives in and has recently retired. He has spent his career in the housing profession and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing and a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. As well as working in local government as director of housing, he has taught housing qualifications and social studies at Southampton University. Steve has previously been a board member of Swaythling Housing Society. He is a volunteer with MIND and the Swaffham and Litcham home hospice support. He is Chairman of the Business Committee and also a member of the Patient Experience and Nomination & Remuneration Committees.

Simon Clarke – Public Governor for West Norfolk (second term of office)

Simon Clarke was elected as Public Governor for West Norfolk for a second term from February 2019. Simon has worked in the NHS as a nurse, a manager and with commissioners for over forty years, the last 32 in West Lynn. Simon has been a board member and chair of the Royal College of Nursing. He was part of the Department of Health working group for Quality and Outcomes and NHS payment systems. He is currently a board member for a psychotherapy organisation and Trustee of a local mental health charity. He continues to support the work of commissioners, work as a nurse psychotherapist and enjoys his time at Hospital radio Lynn. Simon is a member of the Business Committee.

Esmé Corner OBE – Public (& Lead) Governor for West Norfolk (third term of office)

Esmé Corner was re-elected as Public Governor in February 2017. Esmé has lived with her family in for the past thirty five years and before retirement, was the Head teacher of two schools in West Norfolk. Esmé Chairs the Patient Experience Committee in which role she has endeavoured to represent the best interests of patients both individually and collectively. Esmé is also a member of the Membership & Communication, the Business and the Nomination & Remuneration Committees.

Dr Jonathan Dossetor – Public Governor for West Norfolk (third term of office)

Jonathan Dossetor was re-elected as Public Governor for West Norfolk from February 2017. He has lived in since 1981and worked for 26 years as Consultant Paediatrician at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He was Regional Advisor for East Anglia for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health from 1996 -2001 and also served on the College Council. Jonathan is currently Chairman of the Membership and Communication Committee of the Governor’s Council and a member of both the Patient Experience and Nomination & Remuneration Committees. He also attends the Trust’s Serious Incidents Committee.

Ann Easton – Public Governor for West Norfolk first term of office)

Ann Easton started her first term of office as a West Norfolk Governor in February 2019. Ann has worked within the NHS for 46 years in varying roles, since leaving school. Initially as a Medical Secretary, then qualifying as a Registered Nurse in 1976 before qualifying as a Midwife in 1978. Ann has worked for the QEH as Midwifery Sister, Team Leader and a Specialist Midwife involved with vulnerable women and their families, until her retirement eighteen months ago. Ann lives in Heacham with her husband and is particularly interested in helping to provide local, high quality hospital health care to King's Lynn and surrounding communities. Ann has joined the Patient Experience Committee meeting.

Penny Hipkin – Public Governor for West Norfolk (third term of office)

Penny Hipkin was re-elected as Public Governor for West Norfolk from February 2017. Her first career was in hotel management, owning firstly the Manor Hotel and then Fairlight Lodge guesthouse. In 1976 she trained as a nurse in Kings Lynn and was also Chairman of “Headway” Kings Lynn until 1995. She retired in 2004 as a Sister in the Critical / Coronary Care Unit. Penny is Chairman of QEH League of Friends. Penny is a member of three Governors’ Council committees: the Patient Experience, Nomination & Remuneration and Membership and Communications Committees. She also attends the Trust’s Ethics and Serious Incident Committee.

Patrick Kavanagh - Public Governor for West Norfolk (first term of office)

Patrick Kavanagh started his first term of office as a West Norfolk Governor in February 2019. Pat has a long public service history that includes service in the Royal Air Force, Norfolk Police and the college of West Anglia where he was a Course Director. Pat spent many years volunteering with local and national charities. Pat holds a Master of Education degree and has over 25 years' experience in the training and development field. Pat has joined the Patient Experience and Membership & Communications Committees.

Dr Barrie Taylor – Public Governor for West Norfolk (third term of office)

Barrie Taylor was re-elected as Public Governor for West Norfolk from February 2017. Barrie retired as Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at the QEH in 2004, a post held for 30 years and from private practice at the Sandringham Hospital in 2009. In his time at the QEH he pioneered epidural analgesia in labour and the colposcopy service. Barry has lived in South Creake with his wife and family for 30 years and has a daughter who is a nurse. He has involved himself in local affairs by being a member of the Parochial Church Council and a Trustee of a local Musical Trust. Barrie is a member of the Patient Experience Committee.

Kenneth Wicks - Public Governor for West Norfolk (first term of office)

Kenneth Wicks was elected as a new Public Governor for West Norfolk Governor from February 2019. Born in King’s Lynn, he has a son and three daughters, is retired and lives with his wife in ; lately volunteering with ERS, the hospital car service. His career primarily encompassed the full breadth of the construction industry; an old member of the Institute of Building, an engineer on sites including among others, Canary Wharf, a construction manager in Malaysia, working on behalf of Defence Estates. Kenneth is grateful to all who work within the Trust and is determined to represent the very best desires of those who depend upon the QEH. Kenneth has joined the Business and Membership & Communications Committees.

Breckland, and Rest of Constituency

Clive Monk – Public Governor for Breckland, North Norfolk and Rest of England (second term of office)

Clive Monk began his second term of office as Public Governor for Breckland from February 2017. Clive has 38 years of managerial experience and has been involved in training for the last 16 years. This has included developing and teaching courses including Hygiene, Health and Safety and Management. Clive has a daughter who is a nurse who is particularly interested in working with old people, specialising in dementia and End of Life care. This has raised his awareness of the importance of providing the best care possible to patients with these needs. Clive is a member of both the Patient Experience and Business Committees.

Dale Welch – Public Governor for Breckland, North Norfolk and Rest of England (first term of office)

Dale Welch started his first term of office as a Breckland, North Norfolk and Rest of England Governor in February 2019. Dale has lived in Ashill 26+ years and his background is 20 years military and 20+ years working in IT related positions. He believes the QEH to be a good yet challenged. In this ever changing world Dale would like to help being part of the solution. It is his belief that if we can do our bit to bring together visions and reality, the QEH will prosper and grow. There is much to be learned and Dale would like to use his life experience to benefit the Trust. Dale has joined the Patient Experience Committee.

Cambridgeshire Constituency

Jenny Brodie – Public Governor for (third term of office)

Jenny Brodie started her third term of office as Public Governor for Cambridgeshire from February 2019. Jenny has recently retired having recently worked as a part time admin/receptionist in a care home which specialises in dementia. She is married with a daughter and a son who is married with two young children. Jenny has had experience of the hospital both as a patient and as Trust staff member having worked as a ward clerk/receptionist at the Fermoy Unit for two and a half years and also on the NHS Professional Bank staff for just over two years. Jenny is a member of both the Patient Experience and Business Committees.

Malcolm Bruce – Public Governor for Cambridgeshire (first term of office)

Malcolm Bruce became a public governor for Cambridgeshire from February 2017. Malcolm lives on the Cambridgeshire/Norfolk/Lincolnshire border. He retired in 2011 after working in the NHS as a registered nurse for 40 years. During his career he worked in hospitals, the community and general practice. Within the NHS setting he is particularly interested in quality, communications and patient safety. He is Chairman of the Friends of the Hospitals and volunteers regularly at the King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre as an appropriate adult as well as volunteering at the QEH. Malcolm is a member of both the Patient Experience and Membership & Communications Committees; he also attends the Trust’s Serious Incident Committee and is a QEH Volunteer. He looks forward to representing the people of North Cambridgeshire.

Betty Lewis – Public Governor for Cambridgeshire (third term of office)

Betty Lewis commenced her third term of office as Public Governor for Cambridgeshire from February 2017. Betty lives on the Cambridgeshire/Norfolk boarder and understands the importance of having a local service readily available. She worked as a State Registered Nurse for over 40 years, retiring in 2013. During the last 23 years Betty was employed as the Registered Manager for a Charity supporting people with physical disabilities in both a Residential Care Home with Nursing and a Holiday Hotel with nursing service. Betty plays an active part in the Patient Experience and Membership and Communications Committees.

South East Lincolnshire Governors

Alan Maltby – Public Governor for South East Lincolnshire (first term of office)

Alan Maltby started his first term of office as a South East Lincolnshire Governor in February 2019. Alan worked mainly in Local Government until he took early retirement in 2012 to become his late wife’s carer. In his 24 years working for Nottingham City Council Alan gained experience in leadership, health and safety and working with and for the benefit of the local community retiring as a Team Leader for the Community Protection Department. Alan and his wife moved to Lincolnshire from Nottinghamshire in 2006. Having been around Hospitals for over 20 years Alan has knowledge of the care and treatment of patients both as an inpatient and outpatient especially as regards Cancers and their associated problems and is keen to use his knowledge to help Patients and Carers alike have a better experience. Alan has joined the Membership & Communications and Patient Experience Committees.

Sue Robinson - Public Governor for South East Lincolnshire (first term of office)

Sue Robinson started her first term of office as a South East Lincolnshire Governor in February 2019. Sue lives in Sutton Bridge. She has spent almost 30 years in the NHS having worked on the NHS front line, the GP out of hours service; as of the first Emergency Care Practitioners. She gained a BSc (Hons) in Primary Care, and was the first Paramedic in the Country to become a Community Matron. Sue also holds an MSc in Pain Management and has taught and adjudicated on the School of Medicine course at Edinburgh University. Her main areas of interest are primary and secondary care. Sue has joined the Patient Experience Committee.

Staff Constituencies

David Coe –Staff Governor – Non-Clinical (third term of office)

David Coe was re-elected as Staff Non-Clinical Governor from February 2017. David has been employed at the hospital for 30+ years; primarily as an electrician however decided on a career change to help the Trust deliver its turnaround project in 2006. David was staff side Chair for 20 years and is currently vice chair; his main remit however, is that of Emergency Planning Officer. Dave is a member of both the Nomination & Remuneration and Business Committees.

Chaz Schofield– Staff Governor - Non-Clinical (first term of office)

Chaz Scholefield was elected as a Non Clinical Staff Governor in January 2019. After a long military career, followed by managerial roles within the Public and Private sectors Chaz joined the Trust as the Car Parking Manager and Travel Coordinator in July 2013. He moved to his current role as the Waste and Linen Services Manager in April 2017, where he is responsible for the collection and disposal of clinical, domestic and recyclable waste, soiled linen and sharps bins across the site. He also manages the supply of clean linen and uniforms and oversees the courier contract with ERS. Chaz has joined both the Patient Experience and Membership and Communications Committees.

Dan Todd – Staff Governor - Non-Clinical (first term of office)

Dan Todd started his first term of office as a Non Clinical Staff Governor in February 2019. Dan is a ward clerk, a cancer services team member and works with the Medical records library. His roles are so varied and wide ranging that he gets to see the mechanics of the hospital from bottom to top. Dan feels that this will provide a great insight when looking to improve. Dan always puts the patients, their relatives and colleagues as a main priority and hopes to continue this in his new role. Dan has joined the Patient Experience Committee.

Clinical Staff Governors

Julie Calton – Staff Governor – Clinical (second term of office)

Julie Calton was re-elected as a Clinical Staff Governor from February 2017. Julie has been an employee of the Trust for 30+ years. During that time she has held a variety of roles; starting with cleaning in the evenings to now holding the post of matron in Day Surgery. During her 30 years, the Trust has supported Julie’s development from nurse training to the completion of her masters in management. Julie brings her QEH experience and passion to the role of governor. Julie is a Patient Experience Committee member.

Ant Wilson – Staff Governor – Clinical (first term of office)

Ant Wilson started his first term of office as a Clinical Staff Governor in February 2019. Ant is currently employed on Tilney ward as a Clinical Coordinator. He’s worked in the NHS for best part of 19 years in various roles, Health care assistant in ITU, Physiotherapy Technician for trauma orthopaedics at Lincoln county hospital and most recently working as part of the rehab team here at QEH, before going in to his current role on Tilney ward Ant has always put his patients and colleagues as his first priority when working at QEH and hopes to continue that trend going into his new role as Clinical Staff Governor. Ant has 3 boys Kyle, Joe and Teddie with his partner Emma. Ant has joined the Patient Experience Committee.

Appointed Governors:

Paul Dansie – Appointed Governor for the University of East Anglia (UEA)

Paul Dansie has been the appointed UEA representative since April 2016. He lectures in Anatomy at Norwich Medical School, UEA. He is Deputy Lead for Years 2 and 3 of the MBBS course. His role involves teaching anatomy to all five years of the Undergraduate Medical Course and Postgraduate Medical and Allied Medical Courses. Paul studied Medical Laboratory Science in Queen Medical Centre (QMC), Nottingham graduating in 1995. He initially worked in Pathology at QMC before moving to the Anatomy Department at the University College Cork, Ireland. In 2009 he worked as Laboratory Manager and Tutor in Cuschieri Skills Surgical Centre, Dundee before joining Norwich Medical School in 2010.

Jane Evans – Appointed Governor for West Norfolk Carers

Jane Evans has been the appointed West Norfolk Carers Association representative since trust authorisation in February 2011 and for West Norfolk Carers since 2017. Jane has been the Executive Manager at West Norfolk Carers since 2005. She also lectures Social Policy and is a member of the Institute for learning. Prior to this Jane worked as a Social Worker. She also serves as a school governor at a West Norfolk High School. Jane is a member of both the Patient Experience and Membership & Communications Committees

Ann Compton – Appointed Governor for the College of West Anglia

Ann Compton has been the appointed College of West Anglia (CoWA) representative since February 2017. Ann is the Curriculum Support Manager at CoWA. Ann is a member of the Patient Experience Committee.

Cllr Paul Kunes – Appointed Governor for Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk

Paul Kunes was appointed Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk representative in June 2015. Paul represents Spellowfields Ward, and as well as his role at the QEH he is also a member of the Regeneration and Development Panel and Cabinet Scrutiny Committee. Paul is a member of the Business Committee.

Thomas Smith – Appointed Governor for Norfolk County Council

Thomas Smith was appointed Norfolk County Council’s representative in June 2019.

Peter Wilkinson was appointed Breckland Council’s representative in June 2019.

Andy Walder- Appointed Governor for Freebridge Housing Association

Andy Walder lives in North Wootton and has recently retired from the Construction Industry Training Board where he worked for some 14 years. He was responsible for the CITB's training colleges across the UK, training over 30,000 learners every year and worked closely with construction companies, clients and developers. He is currently a Director of the St Edmunds School Academy in King's Lynn and works with both Wolverhampton University and Constructionarium to promote the benefits of vocational training to support academic learning. Andy is a member of the Business Committee.
