Simply stated, this is Toyota’s commitment to the environment. We challenge ourselves to minimize environmental impacts at all stages of the vehicle life cycle: in research and development, manufacturing, logistics and sales. We look at our own operations as well as those of key business partners— suppliers and dealerships. And, we partner with our communities to support environmental programs and initiatives. Our success comes only by engaging the talent and passion of our employees, who believe there is always a better way. This conviction is rooted in the two pillars of the Toyota Way: Continuous Improvement: kaizen (change for the better) with standardized work, an evolutionary process that eliminates inefficiencies; and Respect for People: valuing and empowering the individual and the team, essential to making kaizen possible. Toyota has built these pillars into its corporate culture; the result is a learning organization that believes in jidoka, or stopping to get things right. The Japanese word hansei, translated loosely as reflection, is what happens when one of our employees stops to examine a completed project. When a project finishes at Toyota, we use hansei to evaluate what went well and what did not. We then methodically try to preserve what went well and create countermeasures for what did not. These lessons are incorporated into the standard process so that when we repeat it, we improve over the last time. Finally, we share these insights with our colleagues so that they can learn as well, in a process we call yokoten. 8 | VISION & ACTION NORTH AMERICAN ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT In environmental terms, the improvements we seek are those that help us better manage issues such as waste, air emissions, energy consumption, water use, vehicle fuel efficiency and tailpipe emissions. Hansei is both an intellectual and emotional introspection. The individual must recognize the gap between the current situation and the ideal, take responsibility for finding solutions, and commit to a course of action. The examination involves a review of successes and failures, to determine what works and what needs to be improved. Hansei leads to ideas for kaizen and yokoten, the sharing of best practices from one location to another. Even more so than in recent years, 2012 was a time of hansei in North America. We looked closely at how we operate and made some significant changes to streamline regional management, speed up decision-making and respond faster to customer needs. We reevaluated our environmental strategy and are working towards a more coordinated approach to measuring and tracking performance across the North American region. Throughout this report, we describe instances where hansei is helping us identify ways to improve our environmental performance. We seek to design and produce more efficient and cleaner-emitting cars, to structure our operations so as to tread more lightly on the earth, and to enrich the lives of people in our communities. Our aspirations are part of a long-term view of sustainable growth that shows respect for the planet at every turn. 9 | VISION & ACTION NORTH AMERICAN ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT DEAR READERS, We are pleased to present Toyota’s 2012 North American Environmental Report Here you will find information about our environmental activities in the United States, Canada and Mexico, with a focus on progress during fiscal year 2012. Highlights of our performance are provided in 2012 At A Glance and at the beginning of each chapter Last year, we reported on the completion of our second five-year environmental action plan and committed to publishing new goals and targets through 2016 Over the course of this past year, we reflected on our environmental performance and reexamined our ultimate goals. This process of reflection, known as hansei, helped us recognize the value and importance of coordinated environmental management across Toyota’s North American companies So we began working on a new environmental action plan that reflects better coordination among the various functions and divisions in the region This plan will provide the foundation for a stronger and more focused environmental strategy in North America We look forward to sharing it with you next year In

The 'Swagger Wagon' Struts Its Stuff as 2015 Sienna Wins Family Car of Texas March 16, 2015 FT. WORTH, TEXAS (March 16, 2015) – The 2015 Toyota Sienna “Swagger Wagon” showed its moves with its refreshed styling and added safety, convenience and multimedia features, earning it both Family Car of Texas and Minivan of Texas at the Texas Automotive Writers Association’s (TAWA) annual Auto Roundup event. After a day of demanding driving at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, journalists voted for their favorite vehicles in 18 different categories. This year 52 journalists attended the event and drove 54 vehicles from various manufacturers. “As the only van in its segment available with all-wheel drive, the recognition as Family Car of Texas confirms our efforts to keep the family van alive and thriving,” said KC Kirimoto, vice president of product and global communications for Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. “Toyota’s commitment to enhancing the 2015 Sienna was focused not only on new safety features, but also the convenience and comfort of every member of the family.” 2015 Sienna is Perfect Fit for Families The 2015 Sienna impressed Texas journalists with its style and comfort, from the subtle exterior styling refinements for a more upscale look to the new center console and dash design. Both passengers and drivers can enjoy the refreshed interior with added safety, convenience and multimedia features. Sienna’s new three- spoke heated steering wheel, available trimmed in leather or premium leather, ups the luxury ante. • A-Class Fuel Cell Vehicle Range: 125 Miles Range: 90 Miles (>180 Miles W/ 2004 Battery)
1997: A-Class EV 2004: A-Class fuel cell vehicle Range: 125 miles Range: 90 miles (>180 miles w/ 2004 battery) CARB’s Fuel Cell Detour on the Road to Zero Emission Vehicles Alec Brooks May 2, 2004 Summary On April 20, 2004, California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed an executive order aimed at creating a network of 200 hydrogen refueling stations throughout the state by 2010. The goals for hydrogen powered transportation sound good on paper – zero emission vehicles propelled by hydrogen produced with clean renewable energy. It sounds almost too good. Is the governor’s Hydrogen Highways program really the bold step that jump starts the future of transportation, or is it a monumental boondoggle that leads to a dead end? The conventional wisdom is that the former is true, but a growing body of analysis and evidence leads instead to the dead end conclusion. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has recently made a U-turn in their zero emission vehicle (ZEV) program just as everything was coming together. Battery electric vehicles had been improving rapidly and were almost universally loved by their drivers. Battery durability was shown to be better than expected and cost parity with conventional gasoline powered vehicles was clearly attainable. By dithering on the ZEV mandate and putting all their chips on fuel cell vehicles, CARB has set back the development of practical zero emission vehicles by at least a decade. The current situation has much similarity to the California energy deregulation fiasco of the 1990s. This time, California is being led down the primrose path by automakers, with the promise of a future vehicle vision that on the face of it sounds great.

This document may not be altered without the written permission of Toyota Motor Corporation 09 FCHV ERG Rev – for latest version consult http://techinfo.toyota.com Forward This guide provides emergency response information on the 2009 Toyota Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle- Advanced (FCHV-adv). The FCHV-adv is the next generation of Toyota Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicles first introduced in limited numbers from 2002. The vehicle is based on a modified version of the 2001-2007 Toyota Highlander and is available in limited number for select US cities. The purpose of this guide is to educate and assist emergency responders in the safe handling of the Toyota FCHV- adv following an incident. FCHV-adv emergency response procedures are similar to other Toyota vehicles with the exception of the hydrogen gas fuel cell system and the high voltage electrical system. Unlike a conventional gasoline powered vehicle, the FCHV-adv uses: • 10,000 psi (70 MPa) hydrogen gas storage tanks • Compressed hydrogen gas in distribution lines, regulators, and fuel cell system components • 400-Volt DC fuel cell generator • 274-Volt DC Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) Hybrid Vehicle (HV) battery pack - similar to the one used in the Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle • High voltage power cables, power control unit, and electric motor Hydrogen is a colorless, odorless, flammable gas stored inside carbon fiber reinforced tanks located at the rear of the vehicle. The hydrogen gas from the tanks is distributed in a closed system to the fuel cell in the motor compartment through stainless steel distribution lines under the vehicle.
