Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus), Pacific halibut (Hippoglossus stenolepis), and rock greenling (Hexagrammos lagocephalus) were collected from nearshore waters at contemporary (decommissioned) and historical (World War II) military locations, as well as at reference locations. Total (⌺) polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) dominated the suite of organochlorine groups (⌺DDTs, ⌺chlordane cyclodienes, ⌺other cyclodienes, and ⌺chlo- rinated benzenes and cyclohexanes) detected in fishes at all locations, followed by ⌺DDTs and ⌺chlordanes; dichlorodiphenyldi- chloroethylene (p,pЈDDE) composed 52 to 66% of ⌺DDTs by species. Organochlorine concentrations were higher or similar in cod compared to halibut and lowest in greenling; they were among the highest for fishes in Arctic or near Arctic waters. Organ- ochlorine group concentrations varied among species and locations, but ⌺PCB concentrations in all species were consistently higher at military locations than at reference locations. -

The islands are formed in the northern part of the Pacific Ring of Fire. In this thesis, we address the problem of modeling musical influence using a dataset of 143,625 audio files and a ground truth expert-curated network graph of artist-to-artist influence consisting of 16,704 artists scraped from AllMusic.com. We explore two audio content-based approaches to modeling influence: first, we take a topic modeling approach, specifically using the Document Influence Model (DIM) to infer artist-level influence on the evolution of musical topics. We find the artist influence measure derived from this model to correlate with the ground truth graph of artist influence. Second, we propose an approach for classifying artist-to-artist influence using siamese convolutional neural networks trained on mel-spectrogram representations of song audio. We find that this approach is promising, achieving an accuracy of 0.7 on a validation set, and we propose an algorithm using our trained siamese network model to rank influences. -

Largely associated with polar exploration, and particularly its Arctic service, the ship’s history is a series of compelling stories of bravery in the face of peril, dedication to duty, and legendary exploits. Built in Scotland originally as a sealer in 1874, for the first ten years of service, she operated as part of the commercial sealing fleet off Newfoundland. Purchased by the US Government, it was put into service by the US Navy as part of the rescue fleet for the Greely Expedition to the Arctic in 1884, and first came to world- wide acclaim as the vessel that rescued the few survivors of that disastrous expedition. In 1885, the BEAR was transferred from the Treasury Department for service in the Arctic as a Revenue Cutter, and for an unprecedented 41 years ably patrolled the Arctic, saving lives and dispensing justice in this remote and often challenging region. Between 1886-1895, the captain of the BEAR was the legendary "Hell Roaring Mike" Healy, the first person of African-American descent to command a ship of the US Government. -

Do people from outside Ireland feel included? If they don’t, what will it take to resolve that? What does an inclusive workplace mean? The participants have been so open and shared their deepest personal experiences. What really stood out for me personally were the stories people shared about themselves. It is so easy to group and categorise people, but through their photos we see the individual shine through: their personal experiences, their hopes, their struggles and their desire to be part of Deloitte and At Deloitte, we aspire to offer the most its future. I was also delighted to see how inclusive workplace in Ireland for our much positivity shone through in terms of people. We know from the research that the opportunities people feel they have having real diversity, people with different both in Ireland and at Deloitte. backgrounds, perspectives, beliefs and ways of thinking and working together, I wish to thank each of them for their leads to better decisions and solutions. -

The trade unio ns foster a state of affairs which all ows one set of work ers to be pitted aga inst another set of workers in the sa me industry. thereby helping defeat one another in wage wars. Moreover, the trade unions aid the employing class to mislead the workers into the belief that the working class have interests in common with their employers. These conditions can be changed and the interest of the work ing class upheld only by an organization formed in such a way that all its members in any one industry. or in all industries if necessary, cease work whenever a strike or lockout is on in any department thereof, thus making an injury to one an inj ury to all . Instead of the conservative motto, '"A fair day's wage for a fair day's work ," we must inscribe on our banner the revolutiona ry watchword , "Abolition of the wage system." It is the historic mission of the working class to do away with capitalism. -

Russia Volume and Freshwater Transports from Bering Strait the North Pacific to the Bering Sea Alaska Carol Ladd and Phyllis Stabeno Pacific Marine Environmental Lab, NOAA [email protected] Bering Slope Current The southeastern Bering Sea circulation is dominated by the eastward Aleutian North Slope Current (ANSC) north of the Aleutians and the northwestward Bering Slope Current (BSC) flowing along the eastern Bering Sea shelf break. Cross-shelf exchange from the BSC supplies freshwater to the eastern Bering Sea shelf and ultimately to Bering Strait and the Arctic. Because the Aleutian passes (primarily Amukta Pass) supply the ANSC and the BSC, it is important to quantify the transport of mass and freshwater AlaskaCoastal Cur. through the passes and to examine variability in these transports. Unimak Pass Unimak Four moorings, spanning the width of Amukta Pass, have been deployed since 2001. Data from these moorings allow quantitative ANSC Alaskan Stream depth 0 Samalga Pass 53°N assessment of the transports through this important pass. In addition, transports through some of the other passes can also be Amukta Pass 25 50 evaluated, although with more limited datasets and higher uncertainty. Variability in transports through the passes is related to Amchitka Pass 75 the direction of the zonal winds, with westward winds resulting in higher northward transport. Freshwater transport through 100 200 Amukta Pass alone is large enough to account for the cross-shelf supply of freshwater needed to supply the estimated transport Amukta Pass 300 2 1 400 through Bering Strait into the Arctic. Recent data show a decrease in mass transport and a freshening of bottom water in Amukta 4 3 Amukta Isl 500 Pass in 2008. -
