Initial Rapid Assessment Report For Flood in Tehsil Rojhan and Tehsil Jampur, District Rajanpur August 15th, 2013 Date of Survey: Thursday 15th August 2013. Time: 10:00 hrs. – 18:00 hrs. Area assessed: Tehsil Jampur, Tehsil Rojhan – District Rajanpur. PartnerAid Rapid Assessment Team: Ishtiaq Ahmad – Program Manager. Ashar Munir - Field Finance Officer. Rajan Pur is a District of Punjab. It is located in southern Punjab. It consists of three tehsils namely Rojhan Mazari, Jam pur and Rajan Pur. In August due to the heavy rains flash floods started. Rajan Pur district is badly affected by these flash floods. In Rajan Pur flood water came from Kah Sultan and Shacher torrent (rivulet). This flood water hit the different union councils of Rajan Pur. Hundreds of houses damaged fully and partially and inhabitants sitting under open sky. The displaced people have sought shelter in streets and other public buildings in and around their chaks (villages). Thus, there is an urgent need for non food items (NFIs) including mattresses, mosquito nets, Kitchen utensils, fuel for daily cooking and hygiene kits. Yearly food stock is almost completely washed away, while livestock has suffered considerable loss. Thus affected people facing critical condition and will suffer economically for at least one whole year as their current crop is damaged at large scale. According to affectees this flood is larger than the one, some 40 years ago. 1. This rain water enters the settled area and causes huge damage to crops, land, canal irrigation system and local population. As per PDMA Punjab Record water torrent of 96,000 cusecs from Kaha and 55,000 cusecs from Chachar outlets wreaked havoc on hundreds of acres of standing crops and human settlements in the arid zone as well as in settled areas of Rajanpur district, especially in its Tehsil Jampur which has endured extraordinary damages to 10 of its UCs. 4 UCs in Rajanpur tehsil are also badly hit. Emergency has been declared by the concerned authorities in the district by DCO. Rajanpur have been "badly affected" by the monsoon rains and consequent flooding. District Government, Army and Rescue 1122 are have worked to rescue and evacuate people from affected areas. Tented shelters have been provided mainly by NDMA/PDMA to the affected population settling them at the same places of their affected houses, In Flash Floods the flood water recites within 12-24 hours after occurrence, the affected population take shelter temporarily on trees, raised platforms or other safer places for few hours after as and when the Flash Flood water goes on the people come back to their damages houses and get start the rehabilitation of their houses. The consignment by PDMA is encourage able but for 165,000 people it is nothing.{ In Punjab, hill torrents unleashed by heavy rains swept through over 187,000 acres of farmland and affected over 165,000 people in Rajanpur. District authorities in Rajanpur are assessing losses from earlier flash floods and delivering aid by road after water receded from most areas, though some link roads are still under water. Malaria, diarrhea, gastrointestinal and skin diseases have been reported, so have livestock losses. District authorities indicate people who were displaced by flash floods are returning to their homes. It causes huge loss to the crops; livestock and local population in the adjoining area of River Indus. Major UCs exposed to the river Indus are Rojhan Sharqi, Umar Kot and Meranpur of Rojhan Tehsil. As per below warning issued by Pakistan Met department on 15th August 2013 flash flood and riverine flood is also expected in few days in Rajanpur (next 5 days) .Weather updates predicts further heavy rain falls in the catchment area of flash flood from 12th August to 17th August 2013 which may add to the miseries of already severely affected population. Needs No reliable estimates are currently available from the Government, but initial assessments indicate that more than 195 Mozas in 17 UCs (till now) were reported affected with total 386005 acres affected area in which 191711 acres is cropped land.
