GHAZIPUR PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUENCY Uttar Pradesh, the Most Populous State of Nation Is Served by North Central Railway Along with Northern, North Eastern M NORTH CENTRAL RAILWAY GHAZIPUR PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUENCY Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state of Nation is served by North Central Railway along with Northern, North Eastern M. C. Chauhan and East Central Railways. Indian Railways (IR) plays a very General Manager North Central Railway important role in development of the state and provides connectivity for freight and passengers, including international tourists. IR has a history of more than 160 years in the state and has the highest route kilometers - 9100 route kilometers - within it, which is 14% of entire railway network. IR has made Uttar Pradesh proud by giving it Nation's first semi high speed train Gatimaan Express, which initially ran between Agra and Delhi. It has now been extended upto Jhansi with effect from 01.04.2018 - a move that will boost tourism in bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. Efforts for further development of railway infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh have been intensified in last four years with 376% more investment in comparison to previous years. Results of such a massive investment are becoming visible with enhanced infrastructure and modern passenger amenities. Soon the era of congestion and inconvenience will be a matter of past and a new Railway equipped with state-of-the-art facilities will be able to serve the citizens with greater level of satisfaction. The longest stretch of the under construction Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor i.e. almost 57% of the entire length lies in Uttar Pradesh from Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Jn. to Ghaziabad. In this brochure, we have compiled the important contributions and achievements of Indian Railways in the development of the GHAZIPUR constituency of Uttar Pradesh in the last four years. I hope that it will serve as a ready reckoner for those eager to know about the role of Railways in the development of this constituency. It may be noted that the budgets allocated to various projects are not apportioned constituency wise but reflect the cost of the project. G Civil work of Adarsh station (Except Foot Over Bridge, stainless steel dustbins & Glow sign board) at Jakhania & LED lighting at Ghazipur city at a cost of Rs. 141 Lakh.     Varanasi Division Varanasi is one of the oldest cities of the world and occupies an important place amongst all the religious, cultural and spiritual cities of India. Varanasi is situated on the bank of the holy river Ganges. Most famous temple of Lord Shiva, the Kashi Vishwanath temple, one of the twelve Jyotirligas, is located here. Tourists, not only from various parts of India but also those from foreign countries all over the world, visit this place very frequently. Sarnath, the famous Baudh Pilgrimage is situated very close by, at a distance of about 8 Kms only. This is the place where Lord Buddha delivered his first Preaching. Varanasi is also famous for its cottage industry, handicraft and products thereof, including world famous Benarasi sarees too. Varanasi Division of North Eastern Railway was formed on 01.05.1969. The main routes of the division on Broad Gauge Line comprise of Gorakhpur-Chhapra, Bhatni-Allahabad City, Chhapra-Aunrihar, Mau-Shahganj, Gorakhpur- Paniyahwa, Indara-Phephna, Aunrihar-Jaunpur , Kaptanganj-Thawe and Chhapra Kachery-Thawe sections, while Indara-Dohri Ghat is only Meter Gauge section. Varanasi division is mainly a passenger traffic oriented division. Until 1981, when the work of gauge conversion started on Gorakhpur-Siwan section, this division was basically Meter Gauge route system. Subsequently, gauge conversion was completed in phases : Varanasi-Bhatni (year-1990), Varanasi-Allahabad City (year-1993-94), Aunrihar-Chhapra (year-1996), Mau-Shahganj (year- 1997), Gorakhpur-Paniyahwa (year-1997), Indara-Phephna (year-1999), Aunrihar-Jaunpur, Kaptangaj-Thawe (year 2011) and Chhapra Kachery-Thawe (year 2016-17). Thus, barring only Indara-Dohri Ghat section, Gauge Conversion has been completed on all other sections of the division.

Madam Speaker, I rise to present before this august House the Revised Estimates for 2010-11 and the estimated receipts and expenditure for 2011-12. I deem it an honour to present the third Railway Budget under the kind guidance of the hon'ble Prime Minister. I profusely thank the Finance Minster for his continued support and encouragement to the railways. 2. As the hon’ble members are aware, the wheels of the railways continue to move 24 hours, all 365 days. Railway’s services are comparable to emergency services, required all the time. I am proud of the 14 lakh members of my railway family, who toil day and night with unparalleled dedication. I am also grateful to all passengers without whose cooperation and consideration, we could not have run this vast system. I have also received unstinted support from our two recognised federations and staff and officers’ associations. 3. Madam, rail transportation is vitally interlinked with the economic development of the country. With the economy slated to grow at a rate of 8-9%, it is imperative that the railways grow at an even faster pace. I see the railways as an artery of this pulsating nation. Our lines touch the lives of humble people in tiny villages, as they touch the lives of those in the bustling metropolises. 4. We are taking a two-pronged approach, scripted on the one hand, by a sustainable, efficient and rapidly growing Indian Railways, and on the other, by an acute sense of social responsibility towards the common people of this nation.

(a) & (b): On Bhatni- Varanasi section, doubling of Mau- Indara portion (8.30 km) has been completed and Aurnihar- Manduadih portion (38 km) has been taken up. There is no proposal for doubling of remaining sections. Doubling of Chhapra-Ballia section (65 km.) has also been sanctioned for which preliminary activities like preparation of plan, estimate, etc. have been taken up. Varanasi is connected with Allahabad by the following two alternative routes: (i) Varanasi- Allahabad via Jhanghai, Phaphamau, Prayag: On this route, doubling of Lohta-Bhadoi (39 km), Bhadoi-Janghai (31 km) and Phaphamau-Allahabad (12.9 km) sections have been taken up.
