Mission Statement THE FLORIDA ASSOCIATION OF INTERNATIONAL EDUCATORS (FAIE) HOLDS AS ITS KEY OBJECTIVE: "THE PROMOTION OF INTERNATIONAL EDUCATIONAL EXCHANGE IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA."

In keeping with standards and principles established by the NAFSA Code of Ethics, the FAIE provides to the membership in its five districs professional education and training. This training is designed to strengthen and develop programs and services in international education throughout the state. The FAIE provides a forum for discussion of issues and a network for sharing information pertinent to international education. The FAIE holds that international educational exchange advances learning and scholarship, enhances respect and cooperation among the peoples of the world, and encourages constructive leadership in a global community.

Based off your behavior and searches on the internet we will show you how this information is used to serve you different ads. Learn how you can take advantage of this information to find international students searching for US schools. We will show you how to effectively market on social media through paid advertisements. At the end, we will show you how you can track and measure the results through analytics.

D Visibility as Advocacy in the IEP Context Interest Area: TESOL/English Language Program Location: Ringhaver Student Center, Room 215 Advocacy happens when individuals and institutions leverage their influence. Intensive English Programs are uniquely positioned to advocate for their student populations, but how is it done? The session will discuss widely held views of what advocacy is and what it looks like in various contexts, then share how such theories and practices can be applied at the university level specifically through active and intentional participation in campus life.

A Secondary Education in the Caribbean Interest Area: Admissions Location: Ringhaver Student Center, Room 201 This introductory-level session is intended to introduce the systems of secondary education in the Caribbean region. It will include all four of the main systems: British, Spanish, French, and Dutch. Sample documents will be included and common issues in evaluating credentials from this region will be discussed.

A representative from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles provide an overview of driver’s licenses for international students and issues faced at the state level.

A K-12 ELL Students: An Interventional Approach to Acknowledging Student Schemas in Pedagogy and Testing Practice Interest Area: K-12 Location: Ringhaver Student Center, Room 214 Newcomer English Language Learners (ELLs) – new to the United States and often possess minimal English skills – are an overlooked population, both in current research and in practice. Though placement testing has recently started to become more standardized with gradual state-by-state adoption of the WIDA testing system (World-class Instructional Design and Assessment) and Common Core curricular standards have sought to further standardize instruction provided to all students across the nation, newcomer ELLs face the additional task of learning both a new language and a new culture. This presentation will review some of the salient issues that arise when considering the needs of young ELLs newly arrived to U.S. public schools, as well as propose a month-long interventional course, administered before placement testing to ease their transition into a new linguistic, cultural, and academic environment. It will also propose areas that need reform on a national level.

B Hot Topics in Recruitment for Florida IEPs Interest Area: TESOL/English Language Programs Location: Ringhaver Student Center, Room 213 International recruitment for individual students and special groups has been challenging for university and college-based IEPs in the state of Florida the past 10 years. IEP international recruitment in Florida has been affected by a multitude of factors including global economy, changes in laws, and natural disaster as well as issues in the region like local branding and personnel changes. The presenter will give an overview of the types of recruitment activities and goals set by IEPs collected in a survey aimed at gaining insight regarding efforts of our advertisements, consortia work, armchair, virtual outreach, and physical travel. The goal of the interactive presentation is to discuss the hot topics and best practices and strategies for international recruitment and how we could present a united front of Florida schools as a brand to ensure future diverse and robust enrollments.

C Rehearsing for the Revolution: Using Political Theatre for Intercultural exchange, dialogue and performance Interest Area: Student | Scholar Advising Location: Ringhaver Student Center, Room 202 This session explores how political theatre can provide a forum, practice, platform, and space for international students and other participants in the global community, to interact with each other to raise awareness, to analyze root problems, and to act to change situations where social injustice or oppression or power presides. The ultimate goal is: To empower agents in the International Education field and to practice for the revolution to come! This session will discuss how political theatre can be innovatively used by International educators in various community and school-related events, services, and workshops, to stimulate the body and senses and break mechanized patterns. This session will try a few theatre games during the session, to exemplify the methodology behind political theatre. A handout of inspiring intercultural and cross-cultural techniques, forum, games, and image theatre will be shared. D Creating a Reciprocal International Dual Bachelor's Degree Program Interest Area: Community Programming/Campus Internationalization Location: Ringhaver Student Center, Room 201 After eight years of planning, implementing and revising, the University of North Florida's (UNF) Coggin College of Business finally has a solid reciprocal international dual degree program at the bachelor's level with a partner school in Marseille, France. The UNF/KEDGE dual degree program was launched in 2012, and is thriving despite the many bumps in the road. UNF is now launching our second such program with a partner school in Valencia, Spain. This session gives a birds-eye view of the overall process of creating a dual degree program with an international partner, touching on: 1) choosing the right partner university, 2) determining criteria and creating side-by-side course charts , 3) addressing academic (i.e., general education) and accreditation challenges 4) recruiting domestic students 5) providing appropriate student support and 6) developing an integrated transcript. Attendees will gain an understanding of the overall process and learn from UNF's experiences what to (and not to) do to create a successful dual bachelor's degree.
