SYLHET, Sept 17: A new infantry division of Bangladesh Army commenced its formal journey on Tuesday unveiling a new milestone on the way to implementation of the Forces Goal 2030, the development vision of Bangladesh Armed Forces. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally announced the raising of the 17 Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army by hoisting flag of the division at Jalalabad Cantonment here. She also released balloons on the occasion. At the function, the flags of the newly formed 360 Infantry Brigade and the 32 and 33 Bangladesh Infantry Regiments were also raised. The 17th Infantry Division is a formation of the Bangladesh Army. It was formed as part of the development vision of Bangladesh Armed Forces Forces Goal 2030.[1] It is located in Sylhet Division. Today she has become a considerable force with more than 70 ships and crafts (DNP, NHQ). Ships were acquired from various countries including UK, USA, China, South Korea etc. Such acquisition gave BN the required sea go- ing capability to look after the country’s maritime interest. But BN is still striving to achieve desirable combat capability. The causes of BN’s limitation in combat capability may be attributed to reasons like, foreign dependency, non availability of desired platform, spares, rapid changing technology etc. These limitations may be multiplied if those countries denied to provide capital warship or our sea lines of communication are disrupted during the crisis. As such BN needs to maintain credible force and BN should approach for an indigenous solution. In particular indigenous war shipbuilding will enhance her capability to perform her core duties. \ - S\ !"#$%&!$%'#\ Padma Class in 2013. These 350 tonnes modern vessels were built with the as- sistance of China Ship Building Industry Corporation. KSY is building two large patrol craft for BN at this moment. However, Bangladesh is yet to build capital warship whereas capital warship is the most capable platform at sea.

Bangladesh’s Submarines from China: Implications for Bay of Bengal Security By Nilanthi Samaranayake Synopsis Bangladesh’s acquisition of two submarines from China should not be narrowly viewed through the prism of India-China geopolitics. Rather, it should be understood in a wider context as a milestone by a modernising naval power in the Bay of Bengal. Commentary THE IMPENDING arrival of two Chinese-origin submarines to Bangladesh together with China’s planned construction of submarines for Pakistan, has contributed to the perception among some observers that China is attempting to encircle India and reinforced concerns about a Chinese “string of pearls”. Yet Bangladesh’s acquisition of two Ming-class submarines should not be narrowly viewed through this geopolitical prism. Rather, it should be seen in the broader context of the country’s force modernisation, which has important implications for Bay of Bengal security. In fact, Bangladesh’s development of its naval capabilities may contribute as a force multiplier to Indian security initiatives in the Bay of Bengal rather than being a potential threat to regional stability.

Upon noticing the robbers, the duty officer raised the alarm and mustered the crew. The Master requested immediate assistance from the local Naval Security patrol boat. Upon seeing the approaching patrol boat, the robbers aborted their boarding attempt and moved away. (IMB) NIGERIA: On 12 December, three robbers in a small speed boat attempted to board an anchored product tanker using ropes, near position 06:18N - 003:21E, Lagos Anchorage. The crew raised the alarm and mustered in the accommodation area. The armed embarked security team fired warning shots resulting in the robbers moving away. Local authorities were informed. (IMB) NIGERIA: On 13 December, bandits attacked the offshore supply vessel Chilosco near position 03:45N - 006:10E, 29 nm south of Brass. (www.fleetmon.com) NIGERIA: On 10 December, suspected pirates in a speedboat attempted to board the product tanker Sochima approximately 40 nm south of Brass, Nigeria. The Nigerian Navy security team aboard on the product tanker prevented the pirates from boarding. The Master of the Sochima reported the incident to the local authorities. (www.maritimeherald.com) ANGOLA: On 1 December, two robbers boarded an anchored product tanker near position 08:44S - 013:17E, Luanda Anchorage. Alarm was raised and crew was mustered. Presently Army Welfare Trust is the major shareholder. The authorized capital pf the bank is Taka two thousand million. Public share are expected to be floated in the near future. The bank was formally inaugurated and listed as a scheduled Bank on November 1999. The idea of setting up a Bank by Bangladesh Army was first conceived in 1987 an on November 29, 1999 the first branch of the Trust Bank Ltd came into operation. Composition of the Board of TBL consists of Ex-official Directors of in-service senior Army personnel, with the chief of Army Staff as its Chairman and the Adjutant General as its Vice- Chairman. In 2001, the bank introduced automated branch banking system to increase efficiency and improve customer service. In the year 2005, the bank moved one step further and introduced ATM services for its customers. Since bank’s business volume increased over the years and the demands of the customers enlarged in manifold, their technology has been upgraded to manage the growth of the bank and meet the demands of our customers. In January 2007, Trust Bank successfully launched Online Banking Services which facilitate Any Branch Banking, ATM Banking, Phone Banking, SMS Banking, & Internet Banking to all customers. Customers can now deposit or withdraw money from any Branch of Trust Bank nationwide without needing to open multiple accounts in multiple Branches. Via Online Services and Visa Electron (Debit Card), ATMs now allow customers to retrieve 24x7 hours Account information such as account balance checkup through mini- statements and cash withdrawals.
