Kids' Life and Times Survey 2020 – Troubleshooting Guide Kids’ Life and Times Survey 2020 – Troubleshooting guide What is the Kids’ Life and Times survey? Kids’ Life and Times (KLT) is an annual survey of all P7 children in Northern Ireland covering issues important to children today. The survey consists of an online questionnaire lasting about 20 minutes and is completed by the children in school. The overall purpose of the survey is to inform relevant organisations of the views of children and to give children a voice in issues that affect them. Further background information and instructions on how to take part in the survey are available in the Instructions for Teachers document on the KLT website at: http://www.ark.ac.uk/klt/teachers/ When will the survey be available online? This year’s survey will be available online from 9.00am on Monday 12th October until 5.00pm on Friday 29th January 2021. Protection and Confidentiality of Data Names are not required on the questionnaire so no individual child or school can be identified. We take the protection and confidentiality of your personal and sensitive data very seriously and will ensure that all processing is done in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018). The KLT 2020 Privacy Notice is available at http://www.ark.ac.uk/klt/pn20.pdf. What questions will be in the survey? This year’s survey includes questions on Covid-19 Bullying and Shared Education Please ensure that the principal and/or relevant teacher(s) reads through the questionnaire before the children participate and if there are any queries please contact us for clarification. The survey can be found at http://www.ark.ac.uk/klt/teachers/ Who needs to give consent for the children to take part? Please give each child in the class an opt-out form to take home to his/her parent or guardian. If their parent/guardian does not want them to participate, please ask them to return the form to you as soon as possible (the forms do not need to be sent back to us). Please ensure that any child whose parent/guardian has returned the opt-out form does not take part in the survey. At the start of the questionnaire, each child will also be asked if she/he wants to take part in the survey – they do not have to take part if they do not want to. Where do I get the parental opt-out forms? Opt-out forms have been sent to your school; however, you can also download and print out the form from http://www.ark.ac.uk/klt/teachers/ Can I get the opt-out forms in other languages? Yes – please contact Christopher Coughlan at [email protected] or phone 074 6919 9982 to request translations of the opt-out forms for parents and we will send these to you. We will also make these translations available online at http://www.ark.ac.uk/klt/teachers/ so please check the website to see if a form is already available in the language that you need. At the start of the survey children are asked for a school number – what is this? Your School Number is printed on the letter sent to the principal of your school and on the teacher’s instructions mailed to each school. Alternatively, you can use your school’s DE number. You can also find a full list of schools and school numbers at the end of this document. Version Please note that while the survey will work on Internet Explorer, it is best to use Chrome. If I have any queries or technical problems, how can I contact the Kids’ Life and Times team? You can contact us using the Kids’ Life and Times Helpline number at 074 6919 9982. If no one is available to take your call, please leave a message and one of the team will get back to you as soon as possible. You can also contact us by email [email protected] Thank you for taking part in the survey. The results will be available on the KLT website later in the year. • Department of Education
AQW 8504/09 Basil McCrea has asked: To ask the Minister of Education to detail, by sector and in each primary school, (i) the number of pupils; (ii) the number of pupils entitled to free school meals; (iii) the number of pupils that take free school meals; (iv) the number of pupils entitled to a free school uniform; and (v) the number of pupils that take a free school uniform, using the most recent October statistics. The information requested is detailed below. Information on enrolment and entitlement to, and uptake of, free school meals is taken from the 2008 School Census and School Meals Census. The latter provides a snapshot of the numbers taking meals on the day on which the census information is gathered. The school uniform grant for primary school children is only being introduced from the 2009/10 school year so no figures are available at present. However, the eligibility criteria are similar to those used to qualify for free school meals and the numbers involved should therefore be comparable.
