  • Michelin Notches up Its 20Th Consecutive Le Mans Success
MEDIA INFORMATION 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Round 3: 24 Hours Le Mans Michelin notches up its 20th consecutive Le Mans success After providing Michelin with the first of its recent sequence of victories at Le Mans with Laurent Aïello, Stéphane Ortelli and Allan McNish in 1998 (Porsche 911 GT1-98), Porsche fittingly earned the French tyre firm’s 20th straight victory in the endurance racing classic today. This time round, it was Timo Bernhard, Earl Bamber and Brendon Hartley (N°2 Porsche 919 Hybrid) who claimed the discipline’s most prestigious prize after winning the weekend’s drama-packed race which was led during the hours of darkness by the N°1 Porsche 919 Hybrid (Jani/Lotterer/Tandy), in the wake of the near-simultaneous retirements of the N°7 (Conway/Kobayashi/Sarrazin) and N°9 (Lapierre/Kunimoto/Lopez) Toyota TS050-Hybrids, and after the long period spent by the N°8 Toyota (Buemi/Davidson/Nakajima) in its pits to resolve a technical issue. During this time, the N°2 Porsche concentrated on its bid to recover the chunk of time it had lost on Saturday evening while curing a technical problem. Undeterred, and after the race had been led briefly by an LM P2 prototype, the three drivers went on to emerge at the top of the order with one hour remaining. Since the beginning of its uninterrupted sequence of 20 Le Mans victories in 1998, Michelin has won the Le Mans 24 Hours in association with Audi, Bentley, BMW, Peugeot and Porsche. And prior to that, it won the French marathon with McLaren, Mercedes, Alpine-Renault and Chenard & Walcker.

www.porscheroadandrace.com Romain Dumas (FRA) Published: 12th February 2018 By: Glen Smale Online version: https://www.porscheroadandrace.com/romain-dumas-fra/ Born: 14th December 1977 Where: Alès, France Lives: Basel, Switzerland Marital Status: Partner Elysia, one son (Gabin) Height/Weight: 1.74 m/62 kg Hobbies: Rallying, jet-ski, jogging, squash A full season in the FIA World Endurance Championship as a Porsche works driver, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, is simply not enough for the Frenchman. At the beginning of the year, Romain Dumas also likes to take on a private mission, fighting his way through the desert at the Dakar Rally. In 2015 alone, he also tackled three rounds of the World Rally Championship (Monte Carlo, Germany and Romain Dumas, Porsche works France) as well as a European Rally Championship round driver, Le Mans 24H, 2016 (Cyprus). In earlier days, he also competed on the breathtaking Macau street circuit and at Pikes Peak. At the famous international hill climb in Colorado in 2014, he clinched the overall win in a prototype, after conquering 19.99-kilometres with 156 corners, and a 1,400-metre climb to Pikes Peak at 4,300 metres. “I blow all the money I make as a company driver on my private events,” admits the man from Alès in the south of the French Cévennes.“Long distance racing is what I do for a living. Hill climbing and rallying are what I do for fun, I’m passionate about both.” www.porscheroadandrace.com What else could he have become? He grew up with Porsche.

Porsche Podcast 9:11 Transcript episode 2: The Legend of Le Mans Guests: Timo Bernhard, Le-Mans-Winner 2017 Norbert Singer, former Porsche racing engineer Host: Sebastian Rudolph, Vice President Communications, Sustainability and Politics at Porsche AG Intro [00:00 – 00:15] SR: Welcome to the new edition of 9:11, the Porsche podcast. With this audio magazine, we want to bring the world of Porsche closer to you and answer some interesting questions. Once a month I welcome two guests to our podcast studio, here at the heart of our brand, the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart, where we have a view of the Porsche sculpture of three white 911 cars from different generations. My name is Sebastian Rudolph and I am responsible for Communications, Sustainability and Politics at Porsche AG. Today, as the moderator, I would like to take you, the listeners, with me to the race track. At least figuratively, because our podcast is about the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Porsche achieved its first overall victory there 50 years ago – it is still legendary – and since then we have achieved 19 overall victories, which is a great record! Together we will immerse ourselves in the 24 most famous hours in the world, where technology and tactics combine. We ask ourselves the question: what actually makes Le Mans such a unique race? I am delighted to welcome two excellent connoisseurs of motorsport, and in particular of the Le Mans race, Norbert Singer and Timo Bernhard. And so that you, the listeners, also know who you are dealing with, let me first introduce them to you.
