January 2019 Dear Breeder, We are delighted to provide you with our 2019 brochure. Last year was another great year on the racetrack and in the sales ring for the progeny of all our four Grade 1 sires. This year will see the 1st Irish Bred Crop of CALIFET reach the racecourse and point to point field. Already a proven sire of a host of Grade 1 and stakes winners and performers from his French bred crops, CALIFET will have a crop of over 100 four year olds to represent him this year. He has even bigger and better crops of 3 year olds and 2 year olds to follow, so this really could be the opportune year to breed to CALIFET. Early reports from trainers are very positive and it was very encouraging to see a number of shrewd judges purchase his foals at the recent foal sales. COURT CAVE has really come of age in recent seasons. He sired his 2nd consecutive Cheltenham Festival winner last year and he is currently enjoying his best season to date in terms of number of winners and prize money totals. He has ranked amongst the Top 10 living sires in GB/Ire throughout this season and last season and at the time of going to print, he had the 2nd highest Winners/Runners % of all the leading living sires. When you consider he has only once sired a crop of over 100 foals and he only has about one third the number of progeny of racing age compared to many of his competitors- his achievements amongst his peers are all the more remarkable. KALANISI has been a great servant to us and it is wonderful to see him fit and well in his 23rd year. He has outlived many of his old foes from his racing career and here’s hoping he remains healthy for years to come. The ITM Stallion Trail always reminds us how popular a horse he is amongst the knowledgeable racing public, both for his racing career and for the long list of household names he has produced over the years. We are hoping the unbeaten Malone Road is the next future star to add to that long list. With two seasons completed since his purchase from Newsells Park Stud, MOUNT NELSON now enters his 3rd season here at Boardsmill. He is proving extremely popular to say the least. His first crop of Boardsmill foals in 2018 really looked the part and proved hugely popular at the foal sales. He is attracting a lot of quality race mares and the highest priced National Hunt broodmares sold at public auction in both 2017 and 2018 were both sold in foal to MOUNT NELSON. He continues to produce high class flat performers and accordingly some shrewd flat breeders from Ireland, UK and France have continued to support him in 2017 and 2018. We would like to extend our thanks to all breeders who have supported our sires through the years and a special congratulations to all who enjoyed success with their Boardsmill sired progeny in 2018, many of whom will see their progeny featured in these pages. Should you require any more information on any of our sires or would like to discuss fees and concessions, please do not hesitate to call us. We wish you a successful 2019 breeding season.
