Real Madrid CF: José Mourinho Date of birth: 26 January 1963 Nationality: Portuguese Coaching career: SL Benfica, UD Leiria, FC Porto, Chelsea FC, FC Internazionale Milano, Real Madrid CF • A former teacher, Mourinho worked as a translator for Sporting Clube de Portugal coach Sir Bobby Robson in the 1990s, eventually following the Englishman to Porto and Barcelona as a coaching assistant. • As coach, had a nine-game spell at Benfica and a highly successful tenure at Leiria before getting his big break with Porto in January 2002. • In his first full season, 2002/03, Porto won the UEFA Cup and a domestic double. The next year they retained their league title and claimed the UEFA Champions League with a 3-0 defeat of AS Monaco FC in Gelsenkirchen. • Joined Chelsea in 2004 and led the club to their first league championship for 50 years and the League Cup in his first season. Followed up with the league title again in 2006, and both the League Cup and FA Cup in 2007. • Left Chelsea in September 2007 and stayed out of football until joining Inter in June 2008. In his first campaign the Nerazzurri retained their Serie A crown, a feat they repeated in 2009/10 when they also added the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Champions League title, their first European Champion Clubs' Cup win since 1965. Victory at the Santiago Bernabéu was Mourinho's last act as Inter coach before joining Madrid on a four-year deal.

AC Milan: Massimiliano Allegri Date of birth: 11 August 1967 Nationality: Italian Playing career: UC Cuoiopelli, AS Livorno Calcio (twice), Pisa Calcio, AC Pavia, Pescara Calcio (twice), , AC Perugia, Calcio Padova, SSC Napoli, AC Pistoiese, Aglianese Calcio 1923 Coaching career: Aglianese Calcio 1923, SPAL 1907, US Grosseto FC, US Sassuolo Calcio, Cagliari Calcio, AC Milan • A creative attacking midfielder, Allegri started out in his native Tuscany with Cuoiopelli and then Livorno, his hometown club. First appeared in Serie A for Pisa against Milan in 1988/89 but played only twice that season before returning to Livorno. • He returned to Serie A after helping Pescara win promotion in 1992. The following term he scored 12 goals under Giovanni Galeone, the coach Allegri still considers his mentor. • After leaving Pescara in 1993, Allegri had spells at Cagliari, Perugia, Padova and Napoli before hanging up his boots back in Tuscany with fourth division Aglianese in 2003. • Moved straight into coaching at Aglianese, prior to taking charge at SPAL and Grosseto. In November 2008 he won the Panchina d'Oro (golden bench) as the third division's best coach having led Sassuolo to promotion. • Had earlier been appointed by Cagliari whom he led to ninth place in 2009, winning the golden bench again, this time as Serie A's best coach. Cagliari started the following season superbly but a bad run of results prompted Allegri's dismissal on 13 April 2010 – although he had already done enough to earn a two-year contract at Milan.

• UEFA Champions League: Group stage milestones Holders FC Internazionale Milano are looking to avoid becoming the first defending champions to fail to get through a group stage since the UEFA Champions League began. (This record, like the others, includes the seasons between 1999/2000 and 2002/03 that featured a second group stage). In 1992/93, FC Barcelona were the reigning European Champion Clubs' Cup holders and were beaten 4-3 on aggregate in the second round by PFC CSKA Moskva. S.S. Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta became the oldest player to compete in the UEFA Champions League in 2007/08 when he featured against Olympiacos FC on Matchday 1 at the age of 43 years and 168 days. The record was previously held by Alessandro Costacurta, the AC Milan defender who played against AEK Athens FC in 2006/07 at the age of 40 years and 211 days. Ballotta was aged 43 years 252 days when he featured against Real Madrid CF on Matchday 6. Laurent Blanc is the oldest player to score in the competition, aged 36 years and 339 days, having found the net for Manchester United FC in their 3-2 defeat of Olympiacos on 23 October 2002. Celestine Babayaro is the youngest player to have appeared in the UEFA Champions League. He was 16 years and 87 days when he started for RSC Anderlecht against FC Steaua Bucureşti on 23 November 1994. He was then sent off in the 37th minute. Barcelona and Manchester United have both finished as group winners on 11 occasions, one more than Milan and Real Madrid. Four teams have recorded six successive victories in a UEFA Champions League group stage: Milan (1992/93), Paris Saint-Germain FC (1994/95), FC Spartak Moskva (1995/96) and Barcelona (2002/03, first group stage). Ten teams have gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without picking up a single point, including Maccabi Haifa FC and Debreceni VSC in 2009/10. The other eight are: FC Dynamo Kyiv (2007/08), PFC Levski Sofia (2006/07), SK Rapid Wien (2005/06), RSC Anderlecht (2004/05), FC Spartak Moskva and Bayer 04 Leverkusen (2002/03, first and second group stage respectively), Fenerbahçe SK (2001/02, first group stage) and 1. FC Košice (1997/98). Manchester United scored 20 goals in the 1998/99 group stage, more than any other side has managed. Barcelona scored 19 times in the 1999/2000 first group stage. Debrecen conceded 19 goals in their six outings in 2009/10, equalling the record let in during a group stage set by Dynamo Kyiv (2007/08) and Ferencvárosi TC in 1995/96. No team has ever gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without conceding a goal. Milan (1992/93), AFC Ajax (1995/96), Juventus (1996/97 and 2004/05), Chelsea FC (2005/06), Liverpool FC (2005/06) and Villarreal CF (2005/06) all let in just one. Before their 3-1 win against Sporting Clube de Portugal on Matchday 6 of the 2006/07 campaign, FC Spartak Moskva went 22 games without a victory in the competition, surpassing the unwanted record set by AEK Athens FC on Matchday 3 of the same campaign. The lowest total for a team qualifying from the group stage is seven points. The first to do it, since three points for a win was introduced in 1995/96, were Legia Warszawa that same season before FC Dynamo Kyiv and Bayer Leverkusen managed it in 1999/2000 and Liverpool in 2001/02. FC Lokomotiv Moskva and eventual finalists Juventus both progressed with seven points in 2002/03, a feat achieved by Rangers FC and Werder Bremen in 2005/06.
