With players from both teams coming off the field for no mouth guards, concussions and one player from the Leopards being sent off for backchat, you could say that the game was an eventful one. Unfortunately, the Leopards proved they were the better team on the day winning 18 – 12 over the Tigers. The try scorers for Tigers were Katene Snowden and Richard Brahne with James Bates kicking both conversions. The Premiers made it four in a row with a win at Murray Halberg Park against Otahuhu taking them into the Top Four – now sitting in 3rd Place on percentages….great stuff boys! Up 16-12 at the break, the Tigers went on with the job in the second 40, with veteran centre Nalu Tuigamala slotting some very difficult conversions, scoring a try and creating havoc in the centres. James Waterson dotted down twice. Other try scorers were Jordan Te Aho and newcomer – Tom Connick. Final score 28-12. UNDER 6'S: COACH: EDDIE FIGOTA MANAGER: CARLY FIGOTA Not only does Eddie coach his son Ayden's team this year, he is also one of the stand out players in our Premier side. Eddies’ football career started at Pakuranga, but he was destined to end up at the Tigers after marrying Carly who has strong whanau ties to the club through her Dad, Roy Phillips and Mum, Ewa (Cook). From 2010-2012 Eddie and Carly also coached and managed the Tigers Under 13’s to Under 15’s which included Carly’s brother, Tommy Phillips. Below – the Tigers Under 6 team proudly showing off their new Jackets sponsored by The God Barber UNDER 7'S: COACH: DANILO LARGOSA ASST. COACH : BHIMA BHANA MANAGER: STAN CONRAD This is Dee's first year as full-time coach for his son Paxton's team after helping out last year. When Dee went on holiday for a month players Cooper and Kobe Hendry asked their Uncle Bhima if he would help out and luckily, he said yes. Dee is now back, and Bhima has stayed on to mentor the new coach which is another strategy in developing our coaches. Stan put his hand up this year to manage his son Kiwa's team with the help of his wife Kelli and we hope this is a start of a long connection with the Tigers. TIGERS REMAIN AT THE TOP FROM THE PREMIER SQUAD Great results from both senior teams last Saturday against the Papakura Sea Eagles at Prince Edward Park. Our Reserves started the game a little flat against a team of 12 but soon picked up while the Papakura Players started coming in. Now with a two-man bench, Papakura started to show that they aren’t a team to take lightly. With Tigers up CLASS OF ’89 REUNION at half time, it was their game to lose but they showed they were the better team on the day and took the win 40 – 6. Try scorers were Justice Aull, Caleb Carey, Steven Taupau, Robert Taupau (2), Jonno Davey, Ethan Mackay, Tawhiri Heremaia with Caleb Carey converting 1 and Jamaica Whaanga converting 3. Our Tigers Premiers remain undefeated in the SAS Fox Memorial Premiership Qualifiers after overcoming the Papakura Sea Eagles at Prince Edward Park. The Tigers were up 16-12 at the break and scored back-to-back tries in the final 20 minutes to secure the win, with second rower Nalu Tuigamala a standout and centre, Kenny Stewart scoring a double. • 2011 Annual Report
2011 ANNUAL REPORT As our mantra states “On and off the Field” and some positive work was undertaken in both areas through 2011 to support development and our clubs. While there were some challenging issues faced by the Board, the ARL administration and clubs, the game continued to progress in target areas with the Board still in a position to maintain current levels of financial support by way of subsidies or incentives. On the field there were highs and lows, highs certainly being the breaking the 500 club team barrier (529), the continuation of our partnership with Maori Television for the broadcast of the Appliance Shed Fox Memorial, our most successful Premiership Grand Final Day in a number of year’s both in attendance, awareness and standard together with the success of the Auckland Vulcan’s in making the Grand Final of the NSW Cup. The season low was certainly the frustrations experienced by continual ground closures due to the inclement weather, not only did this impact on Saturday play but it had a major effect on our primary and intermediate schools programme participation. The problem however is a whole of winter sport issue and highlighted the varying standards of grounds for all grass sports throughout the new Auckland City. While social network mediums certainly highlighted grassroots frustration, there is no easy and quick solution with rugby league grounds alone needing an estimated $20 million capital improvement investment. The ARL was proactive in engagement with the 21 new Local Boards that make up the City and work will continue throughout 2012 and beyond to support the clubs to ensure rugby league and club facilities improvement is to the forefront of each of the respective Community Plans.

Sir Peter Leitch Club AT MT SMART STADIUM, HOME OF THE MIGHTY VODAFONE WARRIORS 30th May 2018 Newsletter #219 THE “FIGHTING RYAN” OF THE BOARDROOM By John Coffey QSM Author of ten rugby league books, Christchurch Press sports writer (44 years), NZ correspondent for Rugby League Week (Australia) and Open Rugby (England) T WAS with the utmost sadness that I learned former New Zealand Rugby League chairman Gerald Ryan Ihad passed away last weekend, aged 87. In a lifetime of following and writing about the game I would have encountered only a handful of officials as colourful as Gerald. He was not only a totally honest and sincere man but also a journalist’s dream. The first NZRL chairman I met was Ron McGregor, who told me on the eve of the 1971 Kiwis tour to Brit- ain and France that all rugby league folk were bonded by having made a choice to become involved. Rugby league was not thrust upon us, as the union code was in high schools, and often sacrifices needed to be made to play our game. Since Ron there have been all manner of men chairing the national administration. They have certainly not been the bland, faceless stereotypes who have ruled some of this country’s biggest sports. Frankly, I knew little about Gerald Ryan when he was elected to the post in 1997 but I soon discovered his four-year term was never going to be boring. Continued on next page... Continued from previous page... boardroom the next time administrators from our two nations got around the table.
